I was on the way to work teejay, I can still feel the sickening pit in my stomach. I also thought it was a sick joke at first (denial, not wanting to believe it happened) I started to change to every radio station in out area and it was confirmed. Planning to light a candle tomorrow and a moment of silence. What a terrible loss of lives. Things will never be the same.

Sorry Six, dont know anyone out the Memphis way. But ahh yeah gossip, found about a well known elder where I was from who had been busted for adultry, it was years before he was caught. I was surprised. Gossip isnt wrong as long as it isnt slander right?

Whats the dumbest thing you were counselled for?
by Beck_Melbourne ini was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.
if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.
one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.

When I rode with my fiance alone <gasp> to a booksucky meeting ( I had no other way to attend) an elder cautioned us on not riding alone together like this and then warned us not to stop for ice cream because ice cream can lead to other things

Trot, I know. What I would like to see is that statement get worldwide coverage. Let the whole world know how sick it is. Hugs to all the silent lambs who have suffered, maybe the policies will change on all levels everywhere.

Trauma_Hound, I agree it made me sick and angry. I heard about it before. I am hoping that those who saw the coverage will see how sick and twisted they really are.

It was an interview with Barbara and Joe Anderson. It almost didn't air, they were having trouble getting the tape to feed. They dismissed the reporter, but they were able to get the taped interview to play a little later in the newscast. Barbara & Joe let the reporter know that they were being cut off/shunned by their family that remained jws, including not being able to see their grandchild(ren). Joe mentioned one thing that was a final straw was an elder mentioning as a comfort regarding the abused girl "that most girls aren't really affected in such a bad way, that sometimes they enjoy the touching"

Home From Vacation/Visited German Bethel
by Dutchie inmy children and i just returned from a trip to germany where we visited my deceased husbands parents, his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, and assorted cousins, all of who are jehovahs witnesses.. before we left, the children and i agreed that since their grandparents were old people and not in good health, it would be an act of loving consideration not to cause them any further distress by announcing that we were no longer active in the congregation.
so we went prepared to attend meetings, to go out in field service and to pretend that we were still die hard jehovahs witnesses.
we packed the proper kingdom hall attire, suits, ties, ankle length dresses, as well as our bibles and songbooks.. i suppose to some this may seem the cowards way out, that i should have just announced our new status and let the chips fall where they may.

Dutchie, so very glad to see you back. I agree it was a loving thing not to upset your in-laws. They are most likely in for the right reasons, just a shame that so many are mislead.
I was always under the impression that apostacy was an unforgivable sin. Why would the jw's try to encourage them back into the halls? Now the GB are afraid to have any re-instated because they are afraid that they will help others to see the true light? Curious.

Valis, I'm NOT a wimp (Tattoo)
by LB inyep i took lots of heat from valis for worrying about my pain threshold but i went down today during meeting time and got my first tat.
it's a hawaiian tribal turtle.
it wasn't painful at all, maybe because of the location but it did burn a bit.
