as you all know we have been out of the tower about 3 years now.
i am still a christian but my hubby thinks of himself more as an agnostic.
anyway, my son who is 12 asked if he could go trick or treating with my nieghbor and her son just to try it as it never has - and i said it was up to him to decide.
One of my daughter in law's friends is a Christian, and told me yesterday her church is doing a Trunk or Treat thing at the church. Everyone comes with a trunk full of candy, and the kids go through the parking lot car to car, in costume (no demonic ones of course). To each his own.
alright who plays?
i just got the mario mix ddr game for gamecube and i'm buying mc groovz ddr as well.
i've also played the ones for playstation but i dont own them.
I have got to get over there and do that with him. Sounds like fun and might get me moving too.
or as its known in england "give us yer stuff or we'll egg you".. it really isnt the cozy friendly 'kids get dressed up and chat to all the neighbours nicely' that it is portrayed on american tv (remember the et scene?).
i know you guys across the pond love haloween but imo its awful here.
youth crime goes up by 20% in the uk around haloween.. our version is way more menacing.
Our six year old grandson went Trick or Treating for the first time two years ago. He was so excited when he got candy, that he called to my son, his father, and said "that man gave me CANDY!!!" and then ran to the doors. His birthday is October 29, so he has a Halloween party birthday every year, not that his mother is finally out, with the rest of us. Very fun.
When we were JW's, we would put a sign on our door, that we didn't celebrate Halloween and not to disturb us. In the past few years, that we have had candy for the kids, few would come becaues they knew the signs from the past. Last year, we had a lot of kids because I had an electric Jack o Lantern in the window. I decorate more now too, so we expect more kids this year.
The first time his middle boy was old enough to go trick-or-treating he just went along with the rest of the kids to the first door. He came running back yelling, "THAT GUY JUST GAVE ME CANDY!!!" He ran to each house after that! Tomorrow the youngest brother (2 years) is going for his first time.
I should have read the whole thread before I posted. Same boy. Great story.
Sheep are not terribly intelligent and are followers, and flock together and follow a leader, so I'm not a sheep.
Must be a goat.
has anyone ever successfully opened someone else's eyes?

Yes, my cousin and my sister in law. My cousin was a holdout in the family, and constantly tried to get me to go back to meetings even though her husband had quit too. One time when we were talking, I said some things that finally cracked through her hard shell. Simple questions but it made her think finally.
1. when Jesus ascended to heaven, who did he appoint as his successor? (answer is "no one"............she got it right)
2. he said he would send a helper. who was that? ("holy spirit"............got that right too)
3. who has put themselves in the position of his successor? ("faithful and discreet slave"..........that made her crumble)
My sister in law was visiting from California, and we were having lunch at the Mall. She said she was worried about me and that I didn't talk about the Kingdom anymore. (her husband was my husband's older brother...........he passed away young in 1997, but was with her then......about summer 1996) I told her we were fading and that Dave had resigned as an elder and that we didn't believe it was the truth anymore. I went through the same list of simple questions that I had used on my cousin. I also talked to her about the chronology leading to 1914 and how it didn't work, when Jerusalem was destroyed in 586/87, not 607 and that we had documentation to prove it. I wasn't sure how she was taking it all, because she was just silently, politely listening to me.
When she finally spoke, she replied that she felt like the weight of the world was off her shoulders and wanted to know everything. She also wanted Dave to talk to Sam, her husband, so we talked late into the night and for several days. They left for home with several books and read them out loud to each other on their drive home. "True Believer", "Crisis of Conscience" and "In Search of Christian Freedom".
Sometimes it's easy, if they are ready to hear it and you trust them not to run to the elders. If they aren't ready to hear it, nothing you say will crack through.
seems like 8 out of 10 have back pain.
i've always wondered why so many do.. so...do you, and how do you deal with it?.
gumby.
I used anti-inflammatories and a heating pad or hot water bottles or soaks in a hot bath.
I was told to only use ice. Heat might feel good, but causes the inflamed areas to swell, which makes the problem worse. I did the same thing, just because it felt so good at the time, but when I used ice, it was better.
new light.............thanks for the encouragement and your experiences, about the exercises. I guess I will get going on them.
What about those new NASA memory foam beds? Has anyone tried one yet? I'm thinking of getting a mattress topper made of it before investing in a full mattress.
FlyingHighNow...................We got the foam mattress topper for my mother, who has osteoporosis. She says it is wonderful and takes the pressure off her hips.
We had a waterbed for about 20 years. It felt great sleeping, but it had one of the old style mattress holders, wood frame. Dave has a different kind of work related back pain, and he would wake up in pain every day. When I was about 45, it became increasingly difficult to get out of bed, maneuvering that side rail. I think if the bed had been higher off the floor, it would have been easier. So we got a regular bed and it's fine. Dave got the relief he needed. I love waterbeds though.
did you notice any similarities in the personalities of "anointed" jws?.
did they use their anointed status for personal advantage?.
were they the most loving person you ever met?.
Actually I have known about 50 anointed over my lifetime, 3/4 of those who were pre-1935. I found that they all exhibited a variety of personalities just like JWs do that aren't anointed.
So all the traits you mentioned about "anointed" I have seen in those who aren't anointed as well.
Ditto! Some were really nice, special people, but I know lots of people like that who don't claim to be annointed.
Others were jerks who really thought they were special, and should be treated as such. Again, I know others like that.
well.........here i am, a few pints of guinness further on and it got me thinking.. i luuurve guinness with a passion but what could i never give up in a month of sundays?.
hmmmmmm...well it's definitely not alcohol....i don't think .
for me, it's my music, my george lowden guitar (damn i've blown my cover) and all the amazing vibes that playing, singing and songwriting gives me.. what could you not give up...........in a month of sundays.. peace.
coffee................I can give up bad coffee, but the coffee I make and what I get at Starbucks?.............no way
I moved the topic for you.

I have pretty bad back pain, resulting from a childhood injury. It seems I broke my back when I was 5, and it wasn't discovered at the time. I fell about 30 feet onto a pig pen rail and bounced onto the barn floor. I was unconscious briefly, and jumped right up and seemed all right, for about 40 years. But, it healed wrong, and my 4th and 5th vertebra are misaligned, and I have a bulging disc.
Anyway, I take Advil several times a week, and alternate with Aleve. I often forget to take anything, but sleep better if I take them at night. During the day, I am usually fine. Walking and moving around are all right, but standing just kills me. Sometimes when I get into bed at night, my back goes into spasms but only for a short time.
When I was a regular pioneer, the pain was so bad that I could hardly get in and out of cars. My chiropractor told me it was a stress reaction and not really related to my injury.
I'm supposed to do yoga and stretching exercises, nothing strenuous, but I don't do them very often. He told me to definitely NOT ride a bicycle or exercise bike unless it's a recumbant one. Ice helps a lot when it flares up badly.
