  all in the family is one of the very best series, in my opinion.. when i see re-runs of the andy griffith show, i smile.

  when i was a kid, i never really appreciated don knotts and the gang as much as i do now.. taxi was another favorite.

  hill street blues was great.

  Tecumseh's Every "20 Year Death Curse " on American Presidents

  this is probably a bit of history some of you know, maybe some of you don't.

  in the early 1800's there was a shawnee native american chief named tecumseh who was trying to make an effort to unify all the other native american tribes together against the invasion of the newly formed american government.

  tecumseh was known as a brave, highly skilled communicator, and a good man wanting to share the land in peace with the new american government, but finding he wasn't getting much cooperation from them .

  Combatting Cult Mind Control- Has Anybody Read This Book ? Your Opinions

  i finally ordered this book from the book store as i have heard some good things about it .

  also want to know more about how cults i.e.

  jehovah's witnesses and other cults think so as to see how to communicate with more insight to my witness daughters 20 and 19 .

  I read it years ago. It's true he never mentions JW's by name, but he does mention the names of other cults and high control religions. Just reading their descriptions made me cringe. He definitely hits the nail on the head.

  Up to what age have your pets lived ?

  my cat is 14.5 years old.

  she is still doing well.

  i already had a bird that lived 12 or 13 years.. .

  We had a dog, also husky-shepherd mix, who lived to be 16. One cat lived to be 17 and the other one about 14. We got them the same day from different litters. All of them were pets for our children who didn't take them with them when they married or moved out. And yes, we had all 3 during the same years.

  Now we are pet free, but also kid free, so we are also free.

  as witnesses who were deeply indoctrinated.

  we accepted all of jehovah's witness teachings as a total package, it was "the truth".

  there were no cracks in our armor that would allow other ideas, doctrines or thoughts to seep in.

  very well written and thought provoking.

  I went through all of that 10-12 years ago. I know exactly what you are saying.

  After all my research, and thinking (yes, I am a deep thinker) I have come to the conclusion that I am an atheist. I feel so silly for having been fooled my entire life. I do understand why people believe in god, and am not critical of them for their faith, But that's all it is..............faith. Give me facts!!

  One of my friends took an aptitude test for an employment agency, after losing her husband. She scored very high, and as if she had a college education. She attributed it to reading the WT and Awake and getting a well rounded education from them. I think she is just really smart.

  I had a return visit one time that was highly educated. He promised to read the WT cover to cover and give me a critique. I was pretty surprised when he said they were poorly written, and not scholarly. He thought they were on the level of middle school, and wasn't really criticizing, because he realized they needed to appeal to many age groups. I remember thinking he was a jerk. Now I know what he meant.

  Help! I have a Xmas tree in my house!

  i am sitting here looking at my very first christmas tree set up in the foyer.

  a very good friend gave us a prelit 6 ft tree.

  my husband brought it home last night and i just couldn't stand it anymore!.

  I can't wait. We will put ours up after Thanksgiving. I already am burning the candle that smells like a Christmas tree. 50 years without Christmas and I am like a 6 year old. When I was little, my mother had a Christmas village under the tree, that I loved, so I've been gradually buying a Victorian village for us. She told me that she made it (assembled it, actually) and it was cardboard. I thought it was beautiful, but I was 4 on our last Christmas, so the memory was that of a child.

  I know what you mean about feeling funny about it at first. It took us awhile to get comfortable, and we put the tree in a corner in the living room where it couldn't be seen from the street. Last year it was in the front window. This will be our 5th year with a big tree.

  Watch little ones with the ornaments too. One of my little grandsons (age 2), tried to take a bite out of a glass ornament that looked like candy. Lesson learned. And, yes, cats can be a problem. Rachel's cat climbed the tree and almost knocked the whole thing down.

  What is the "Good News" Magazine being advertized???

  have you seen the ads for the "good news" magazine?

  it looks suspiciously like the wt.

  same type of photography and layout... anyone know if this is an offshoot of wt or a copycat or something?.

  We have an ex JW woman friend, who left her husband when she left the witnesses. Then she married a Worldwide church of God man, who had been kicked out. We had dinner with them and that religion sounds so much like the JW's.

  Then she divorced him and is now married to a Mormon and has converted.

  They are all fairy tales. Similar story, same ending, same delusions.
