I am pretty sure it was the prodigal son parable, when we studied it in The Greatest Man book. It just seemed to me that the brother of the "lost" son, was like the JW's, and wanted to shun him when he returned after his life of debauchery.
The father showed true, unconditional love, towards him. That issue just hit me in the face.
Of course I suppressed it for a couple of years, but it always bothered me.
Another one was Abraham being asked to kill Isaac, when in the book of Jeremiah "Jehovah" condemned the pagans for sacrificing their children to false gods, and he said it was something that never came into his heart. I never could reconcile that story to myself.

I have thought this was an interesting fact for some time, since at the time of the Israelites exodus from Egypt, in the 1500's BC (somewhere in there), there were over 1 million who left there. How can that be if there weren't that many people on the planet???

What are some personal truths you now believe in after leaving the WT?
by lovelylil inthese are things i hold as personally true for me:.
1) there is no religion today that has the only truth about god.
2) the bible contains truths for christians but other religions have books that contain truth for them.

I have said "I know things you do not know, and if I were to tell you, it might shatter your faith. It's a hard thing to go through, do you want to hear what I know? The religion is not what you think it is."
Most say "no" but I've had a few ask questions at that point. Some of them agree with me, and say they have questions too. A few have also left.

Rain and flooding
by Mulan inwe are having a record rainfall and floods like we haven't had in about 15 years, thanks to the pineapple express (storm systems from hawaii).. here are a couple of photos to show you what is happening nearby.
we are on high ground so pretty safe, although i drove through a really deep "lake" today, but made it out on the other side all right.
staying home now.. this is near fall city, east of seattle about an hour.. .

i was on my way out of the watchtower and the only life i had ever known.
pretty ironic.

What was the reason why you were never made an elder or Ministerial Servant
by twinkletoes inthe reason i heard constantly by the elders, as to ones spiritual progress in the organisation was, .
"brothers are appointed by holy spirit.".
if this is the case, why is god speaking to himself when he says in 1 tim 3 v 6 .not a newly converted man, for fear that he might get puffed up with prideetc.. to re-iterate if god appoints elders, why would he give himself this advice ???.
