DEBUNKING BIBLE MIRACLES: Joshua telling the sun to stand still

so, i'd love to start some threads debunking biblical miracles as the fairytale fiction that they are.

the first i'd like to start off with is jehovah supposedly making the sun stand still to allow joshua's army enough daylight to conquer the amorites.

If god was that so omnipotent and could actually manipulate the world in such a way then he would not need to do the horrid things he did in the bible. The bible itself wouldn't need to be written because it would have been created in a way by the creator that it would only need to be touched and be understood fully,.... the presence of god. However jehovah, who is actually hard to find in anything other that written texts had to use a woman to give birth to a to a guy down here to spread his word in only a small area of the world, when the message could have happened simultaniously on ever contiinent of the world so the message would have actually had an impact..

The threat of inillation for sinners by god at the end of the system of things is a bit shakey too. If god ( that is a small g) has to resort to violence on a scale that mankind has never seen killing a large portion of the population but could actually manipulate atoms on a sub atomic level then it would be much easier to do something much nicer over a longer period of time like make sinners sterile.

He would also be able to determine much more in history.

i suspect from this being in the public edition, they are getting flack at the doors for this...the internet is a huge research and awareness problem for them no doubt.. thanks oz.

Odd bunch the JWs and I hope we do not get around to the origional question of this post with my wife. If that sort of activity stops then I am going to be very unhappy. I do not want the WT reading a rule book in our bedroom.

The bible has incest rife in its pages from A&A Lots seduction and Noah which we all agree in this society is just not right so why would J.C. tell us to not look at a woman with passion...perhaps her meant just your sister mother and cousins?

The WT plaquards said this when the bible students were campaigning all over the states at the start of the 29th century. I have see this bragging on DVDs that the Watchtower distribute. If you are an atheist you will obviously say that it is true the ALL are the same. If an organisation on the other hand is competing in an area for new members they will also say that other groups and churches are run by Satan or not preaching the true word etc etc. It is called AD HOMINEN which puts down other without arousing suspiciion about their own organisation.

I look at it as the same way political parties campaign and we have this sort of thing in the United Kingdom. they put other parties down and say how wonderful they are but when you look at thier history the gruesome truth is really seen. The WATCHTOWER is not gods appointed organisation to spread spiritual food at the correct time as they claim. They area just a bunch of Christians who think they are better than any other group and think they have the right to say that they are the only true religion. Incidently by saying this I checked how credible they were.....

there were some, but such letters were few and far between.

in the moscow archives, however, eberle found a file containing a number of letters sent to hitler by jehovah's witnesses..protesting against the conduct of the nazis.

I do not like the way the WTS capitalise on the JW situation during the war. I saw a video on this. It just told the story from the point of how good the JWs were to hold onto their belief during persecution.

The reality of the Nazi campaign was much more horrifying than just the JWs being persecuted. If anyone would care to look in the MOTHERLAND museum in KIEV, UKRAINE ( you can't miss it... there is a massive siver staue you can see in the city) There is a map in there of the concentration camps just in the Ukraine dedicated to the incarceration and elimination of Ukrainians. There are also statistics of the losses in the USSR very clearly shown.

The Soviets lost 27 million people during the Second world war in total......I cannot start to comprehend that amount, that is slightly under half the population of Great Britian.

What I find very offensive in a recent video distributed by the JWs..the video showed churches belessing soliders going into battle . The WT condemn this....but in the circumstances that war could not be avoided.the video again showing how the JWs suffered in the USA for not saluting the flag in 1940s.. capitalising on the persecution the members suffered which may not have been that way if the doctrines were not enforced at that period of time of national patriotism.

Many still alive appriciate the war efforts of men and woman who pitched together to defend freedom against fascism. This is the very freedom that groups like the JWs enjoy now preaching their garbage about the end of the world.

Rutherford sucked up to Hitler and sat safe and secure in America....half my fathers family died in WW2. I'd like to hear a "thank you" instead of condemnation for resisting the 3rd Reich. I do equate jehovah on the same level as Hitler,....the dominator , and murderer at Armaggeddon!!

JWs relieved when judges decree their kids must have a blood transfusion

it's a fascinating story that shows the real attitude of many parents of young children who become seriously ill. though ordered by their religion to refuse transfusions and simply accept that their child may die as a result, some parents willingly accept the right of the state to decree that a transfusion must take place if doctors so decide.. no parent wants their child to die, and it would simply tear them apart to know that a reasonably simple and routine medical practice could save their life ... yet they would be shunned by their family and friends if they accepted.

the solution is to hope like hell the state steps in, allowing them to say to their congregation, "well, what can you do?

I found myself checking out the situation from the policies of our hospitals here in Great Britian about blood. Children are protected. it is a hospital policy to not deny blood without exception. Adults do have a choice unfortunately. The selfishness of a false religious belief puts un needed financial pressure on our already pressured health care system in the UK.. Why should JWs ( unless they pay for it) have special treatment in bloodless surgery or synthetic blood shipped in at great cost?

My partner is JW newly found and I am very opposed to it. She also works at the hospital and has had medical training as a Russian Paramedic. What I found obserd, she kept telling me that you can get diseases from blood transfusions and this is why it is not safe. No biblical refenences were made. This is not said in the bible but I think it is her interpretation of the WT doctrine along with discussions at her BS that they have come to this conclusion. She also informed me that not all blood is checked and only a cross section is ever checked. We have a doctor friend who is not JW. I asked her what happens to blood, since she trained in the hospital she'd know. All blood is checked for possibilities of contamination. It may not be true of other hospitals however not in the UK.. My Partner then came back with the arguement that perhaps they may miss a batch. Yes that could be true however if the labs are sloppy.

The WT doctrines put our family under stress, I will not now allow my wife to take our son home abroad on her own. this means he will miss out culturally of his Russian / Ukrainian roots, not see relatives. That is a degredation on the quaility of life.

A small mercy out of this situation, our teenage son , in rebellion actually signed up to give blood voluntarily. Quite out of charicter too!!.

living in "the bible belt", i meet people with this sort of mentality all the time but this guy takes the cake!

i have been wondering of late about the extent to which jwn's minions (one of whom i am beginning to see myself to some extent) differentiate the machine from its parts.

what i mean is, what degree of separation is discerned between the watchtower bible and tract society and its individual members?.

Hi Nickolas,.. from what I understand from your writing you have a partner who is in the JWs but you are not...you are an atheist?.

I am in the same situation. My partner is being indoctrinated into the group very quickly. I have from not knowing anything about the group actually become to lath their policies and seen first hand how quickly their ideas have got into my wifes head.

Honestly, when she has come to me and told me I must be saved because the end of the world is coming then I raised an eyebrow. This was within weeks of her first taking bible studies. We argued to the point of agreeing we should not bring any religious issues into the household . However their policies have altered our lives over the blood policies. I have now had to protect my young boy against n his mother. What other sort of organisation would do this to families. I find it very selfish to see JWs expecting a beligured health authority like we have spend much more on "alternative" ways of administering bloods .

The WTBTS are responsible for giving false hope and false prophesy although some cannot see this and think only that it is the devil bearing false information about their history.

One thing which is a major issue for me is being accused,... the none believer being influenced by Satan. It is an insult. Why would their literature give false information convince my wife that I am under Satans control whilst having an atheists view on the world.

I discovered long ago that re- incarnation and the processes there of are sufficient for me to understand the workings of this world instead of believing in a creator who will eventually kill all the nasty folk in the world and just save those who are serving the WTBTS.
