    I remember when the dyed chicks would be for sale at every drug store and "dime store" around Easter.

    I think the animal rights people pretty much put an end to this. It is true that not many of them survived longer than a couple of days. I suspect it was more from being played with by the kids, or being caught by the family dog or cat, than the dye per-se.

    James....many chicks die in nature anyway either to rats or other predators... any animal that is tasty will be eaten...

    Some, but nowhere near 95 to 100% - Otherwise, Colonel Sanders Fried Chicken would be out of business.

    KFC chickens aren't reared "in nature" - they grow up in artificial environments that are basically chicken factories.

    Doesn't stop them from tasting good, tho!

    Neither were the red, yellow, and blue easter chicks.

    I am no PETA freak, but my point was that this is a pretty silly reason to kill a perfectly good baby chicken.
