  "Special" meeting in October?

  question.

  my mother told my husband that there is to be a 'special meeting' in october at the local sports arena (same place as dc's are held here) and that "only publishers are allowed to attend" that they will get "special cards" for admission from their local congregation and have to hand them in to get into the building.

  i have no idea if this has anything to do with the "annual meeting" they always have (isn't that generally in october?

  i spose the really great thing about the mt 24:45 prophecy is that its so open ended. it could mean whatever they need it to mean at any given time. jesus just asked the question, 'who really is the slave feeding at the proper time?' he didnt even answer his own question. the answer is simply a de facto observation. whoever's dispensing the food, thats the FDS. and the WT has established that they are the ones doing the feeding so lets just be done with it and say the WT IS THE F&DS. end of story. it would clear up the awkward understanding currently that has all these non-GB anointed, supposedly FDS but dispensing nothing. i think belbab is on to something here...

  just wanted to say thanks for all the drink ideas.

  however mental note: do not try all of them in one night.

  well maybe i didn't get them all but the bloody mary (nice), rum and cranberry juice, mind eraser, boiler maker, and a whiskey sour later and my stomach feels like there filming the thriller video in there.

  Question for you RE: Holidays

  gathering that there seems to be a mix of active jw's, inactive jw's, ex-jw's, atheists etc.

  here, i am wandering on your thoughts on the holidays with more focus on the more religious based holidays like christmas & easter.. i'd like to know if you celebrate them like the mainstream of society or if you still have your reservations about them based on what you learned as part of the wt.

  i myself have been very turned off by the holidays in recent years - not because of the wt though- but for my own personal reasons.

  having never celebrated the holidays in my life, i dont believe i will ever feel the need to do much around holiday time in the future. its habit. however, on the other hand, i no longer plan to condemn them or denigrate people that do celebrate them or refuse to even attend gatherings that have any connection to them at all.

  your question also centered on the religious holidays, ie christmans and easter. do i take it that you are still a little confused as to exactly what is so wrong with acknowledging new years, birthdays or mothers day etc? does it seem that it has more to do with just being different than standing up for religious truth?

  perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.

  as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.

  since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

  hey, what IS the deal with october and doomsayers? proplog was making a similar statement about coming back in october to prophecy his particular brand of doom. and certainly, were all accustomed to the WTs love affair with the month. could all the doomsday cults in the world be the result of disappointment that summer is over?

  ok. i read somewhere on this site something about those who don't know about jws fearing them so i thought,as someone who has always been 'worldly' i'd share what we really think of jws.. first of all we do not fear you, we fear your visits.

  basically you're annoying!.

  picture this; there you are happily going about your daily activities skipping joyeusly around your livingroom minding your own buisness and hark!, what's this?

  yeah, thats a good question. how big a deal would the dateline presentation be to someone coming into the topic absolutely cold?

  would it be like, 'how incredible. im going to remember this for next time they show up at the door.' or would it be 'who? what? what's on TSN?'

  Is this for real? 15 minutes? Have they quit doing hour-long bible studies?

  oh yes, a require brochure study is to be 15 minutes normally. initially even less. of course, the hour-long knowledge book studies follow necessarilly. of course in practice, since the majority of studies in english north america are non-english speaking, that 15 minutes gets stretched a lot in attempts to explain the material across the language gap.

  maximus quoted this letter in another thread, and of course the letter is real.

  but it is a smoking gun, and i have now posted the scan of that part maximus quoted as evidence to the validity of the posting :).

  it seems to me that the actual 'smoking gun' would be the written evidence of a different standing policy outside the UK. does such exist? i suspect that while a different policy exists de facto, there is no clear written directive. ive read all of SL's BOE letters and i dont recall such. if it does, put them side by side and show the implication clearly.
