The mentality at Bethel in the US is that the further you get away from NYC the greater the deviation from organizational direction. At Bethel Californians are viewed as ultra-liberals. Europeans were viewed as the same. Wherer ex-Bethelites go there is a stronger influence of what leadership wants.

My sisters funeral service was just appalling. An absolute disgrace.
by still wondering inmy sisters' funeral service was just appalling.
an absolute disgrace.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/medical/216561/1/my-sister-died-this-morning-after-refusing-blood-on-four-occasions.
the funeral was held today for my sister when every opportunity was used as a sales pitch to promote their malignant message, in this case to any non jw's that may be present, just like any other pyramid scam it seems.. the person whose funeral it is just has a minor bit part to play compared to the main feature , the promotion of the all encompassing multi-talented multi-tentacled wts that you can rely on to guide misguide and pervade every nook and cranny of your life including when to die.. and why not, because as gods only prophet to all mankind, they don't just hear gods voice, they are gods voice.. ***watchtower 1957 june 15 p.370*** "it is vital that we respond to the directions of the "slave" as we would to the voice of god.

January 2012 WT Study edition on PDF pulled from JW.org website
by bnybyt inthe wt study edition is getting a facelift for the new year.. the january issue had been posted on jw.org but.... the boes hadn't received notice by letter of such a change.. the wts likes to play up every opportunity to have a new release.. this time the jw.org techies jumped the gun and went on to post.
the issues for download according to their established schedule.. unfortunately, they went ahead of the fds/gb who too late .
realized the cat was out of the bag, sort of saying.. well, it got pulled off the website, for now at least.. what's so secretive about it?.

Judging from the pictures one of the articles is an attempt to regurgitate the video they released at last years convention and connect Wycliff, Tysdale, Storrs, Grew and Russell. Oh brother, here we go!

Has Gambling Become A Conscience Issue Among JWs?
by FreeAtLast1914 inthe reason i ask is that i have a coupe of cousins who are still jws who have gone gambling in casinos with us.
i have a brother-in-law who openly brags about his "perfect" blackjack strategy he employs in vegas when he's in town.. i know that growing up as a jw, gambling of any kind was a dfing offense.. is my jw family simply more liberal than most, or has there been a subtle shift in this area since i've been out?.

How does the WTS view lying?
*** w07 2/1 p.6***
Every lie is an untruth, but not every untruth is a lie. Why not? A dictionary defines a lie as “an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker to be untrue with intent to deceive.” Yes, lying includes the intention to deceive someone. Hence, to speak an untruth unwittingly—such as giving someone incorrect facts or figures by mistake—is not the same as to tell a lie.
Moreover, we need to consider whether the person asking for information is entitled to a comprehensive answer. For instance, suppose Manfred had been asked the same questions by an executive of another company. Would Manfred have been obliged to tell him everything? Not really. Since that executive had no right to such information, Manfred would have had no obligation to provide it. Of course, even in this case, it would have been wrong for him to tell a lie.
I can't tell you how many times I lied based on this position. They called it "theocratic strategy".

A question for current/former elders
by Mickey mouse inwhen you had to deal judicially with cases of apostasy, did it ever pique yout curiousity?
did anyone ever tell you about something they had learned that shocked you and made you investigate for yourself?.
-
MrDarkKnight
Generally speaking you have to be openly broadcasting your disagreement with the teachings of the WT to be charged with apostasy. If you gon TV or to any other media you will be charged. And even then there is a lot of crossing of the T's and dotting of the I's before disfellowshipping takes places.
They would much rather you get frustrated and disassociate yourself. Much less paperwork and effort.

Proof of God or Christ without a holy book
by Awen inin some previous posts i have asked certain questions that still haven't been answered.
so without going back to those threads and possibly de-railing them i thought it best to make a new topic.
please bear with me.. i have asked certain ones to prove the existence of god or christ without referencing any biblical writings or characters.

@Qcmbr...You have stated clearly the crux of my issue with God. Why use cryptic books subject to a variey of interpretation? Why use charismatic individuals with stories of their supernatural calling?
I just don't know.

@Shelby...I always enjoy your posts...I love a person with strong conviction but with obvious concern for the feelings of others...keep it up...I am still very skeptical of organized religion after 38 years as a JW...but I do have an open mind...
Have a great day,

@BluesBrother...you hit the nail on the head. I had power, position and I made it work. I had lots of fun. So when I was removed as elder for attempted suicide all I could do was attend the meetings. That got old fast because I realized it was all bullshit.

Nov.15th WT - WT Society Wants & Needs Elders- Not very High Standards
by flipper inas many of us realize- times are hard for the wt society getting men to " reach out " for an elders or ministerial servants position as young men aged ( 18-35 ) are opting out of doing that due to the pressure they are under from the wt society leaders and just that it takes up too much valuable time where men could be earning a living and helping their own families instead of a thankless magazine printing corporation.
in the article " train others to reach out " in this issue it has lots of strange, controlling, yet perplexing statements which i'm sure will confuse jw men who are considering " reaching out ".
in fact, i think this article will discourage more than encourage them from doing so.. on pg.

@Sapphy...One year we were so low on MS that we had an elder's wife doing the accounts. She did a better job than ANY man ever did! The reports were spot on accurate, compiled on timed and she was pleasure to work with.
The CO came and told us not to use her anymore but work on our "training program" for brothers. The accounts were never right again.
