This happened to me today. It wasn't a long post so it was easy to replace the 2 or 3 lines that disappeared by editing them back in. -

JW's and Violence
by TD inmy wife and i have recently gotten hooked on the history channel's series, vikings.
(my wife is full blooded norwegian....).
to be honest, the show is quite graphic in spots, but certainly no more so than a history book i own of the same time period.. anyhow, we made the mistake of mentioning the show if front of jw's last night and they were all thoroughly shocked that we watch it.. i tried pointing out that big chunks of the ot are not materially different and that even the confrontation between david and goliath would get an 'r' rating if it were visually portrayed in any detail at all.

Have they always been this way?
I believe their shock comes from having a superior attitude. Witnesses will find fault with anything, even when they are guilty of the same thing themselves.
Your point about violence in the OT was absolutely right, and a good thing to bring up in my opinion.

Royal Commission into Child Abuse - Australia
by biometrics insaw this in the paper today:.
the jehovah's witnesses church in australia is the latest religious group to come to the attention of the royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse.. the child sex abuse royal commission will hold a public hearing into controversial christian group the jehovah's witnesses, next month.. the inquiry, to be held in sydney, will hear from people who were allegedly sexually abused within the jehovah's witnesses church in australia.. it will examine how the jehovah's witnesses church and its company, the watchtower bible and tract society of australia, responded to claims of child sexual abuse within the organisation.. a victorian inquiry into how churches handle child sex abuse claims has previously taken submissions from former jehovah's witnesses who alleged instances of paedophilia, sexual assault, blackmail and death threats.. the organisation has 64,000 active "disciples" in australia but has also been described as a cult.. jehovah's witnesses believe their church is the one true religion and all others are wrong.
they are among a number of religious groups which have been examined by the royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse including the catholics, anglicans, australian christian churches and the salvation army.. the jehovah's witnesses australian headquarters has been contacted for comment about the inquiry which is scheduled to begin on july 27.. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/nsw/jehovahs-witnesses-to-appear-before-sex-abuse-royal-commission-20150622-ghue73.html.

zeb - "...royal commissions' will run up a bill into millions..."
There are much, much worse ways of putting your tax dollars to work.
To protect victimized children from a religious group that doesn't care, it's worth it. Money well spent !!!

The child sex abuse royal commission will hold a public hearing into controversial Christian group the Jehovah's Witnesses, next month.
The public hearing will be streamed live to the public via webcast on the Royal Commission’s website.
I think it would make a much bigger impact on current J-dubs if they had to watch a branch rep (or similar) try to explain and defend the WT's policies in front of a TV camera.
I wonder which high ranking Watchtower official will refuse to appear this time.
Think of Gerrit Losch's refusal to comply with a court order to appear in the recent Jose Lopez case in San Diego, using the lame excuse "I don't answer to Watchtower."
More importantly he was, at the same time, refusing to comply with the Bible...
But when they bring YOU in before public assemblies and government officials and authorities, do not become anxious about how or what YOU will speak in defense or what YOU will say; 12 for the holy spirit will teach YOU in that very hour the things YOU ought to say.” Luke 12:12
These men (G.B.) would tell Jehovah's Witnesses that they must "take every opportunity to give a thorough witness," while cowering themselves when they have an opportunity to do just that.
The Governing Body's lack of public participation in child molesting issues tells me that Watchtower officials don't really believe they are 'guided by holy spirit' at all.
This fact alone should be an eye opener for sincere Jehovah's Witnesses everywhere.

Jehovah Witness cult is Anti-christ.... proof seen in the use of BCE/CE instead of AD/BC
by goingthruthemotions inso being around this cult, i always found it interesting that the rest of christianity use ad/bc and the non christians use bce/ce.
i never put two and two together.
but, it dawned on me that once again there is hidden proof that the witness cult is and anti-christ cult.

What happened to the page summaries in NWT?
by jws ini was recently discussing the real 10 commandments in ex 34. as i recall the old nwt had topic summaries at the top of each page.
theoretically to summarize the page and help you find things.
i've seen other bibles do this too.

The "running headings," as one Circuit Overseer called them, are missing from the print edition too (the latest Revised NWT). -

Our hall is asking for money...
by thedepressedsoul ini guess the branch isn't happy with the amount being sent each month since we are way lower than our loan amount.
we now have to another financial survey to see the max amount that can be given.
it is "encouraged" for all to be in attendance and give much forethought and consideration to the amount you can donate each month.

To add a little something to Designer Stubble's great quote above, the same Zion's Watch Tower said...
"When He who says: ‘All the gold and silver of the mountains are mine,’ fails to provide necessary funds, we will understand it to be time to suspend the publication.” (Zion's Watch Tower, August 1879)
If all the gold and silver belong to the God that backs Watchtower by his spirit, then why are the followers constantly being asked (reminded) to give more money to support the organization?
If Watchtower sincerely meant the above quoted words, it's way past "time to suspend the publication."

Fisherman: What I do know is that Plaintiff wants what is in WT deep pocket. That is a fact.
Is it really a fact that Conti wants Watchtower's money, or is that what you want people to think? If it is a fact I would love to see the evidence, so please prove it.

Statue of Marsyas died on a stake?
by enigma1863 inso jws have been spreading this picture around claiming it supports the roman torture stake belief.
this is the statue of marsyas the satyr, a greek mythical creature.
he lost a challenge to apollo and was flayed.

...wouldn't this show evidence that the stake was of pagan origin as well?
It sure would. Watchtower has stated that Jesus was actually murdered because of unfair violations of procedure at his trial. If the cross would not have been used to execute Jesus because it is pagan, as Watchtower says, are we to believe that the torture stake is a Christian instrument of murder? There is no such thing.
Stakes and crosses were both used by pagan societies in the first century. One is no more Christian than the other.
