  Did The Witnesses Predict the United Nations in Advance?

  it's been reported on this forum that bethel speakers at this summer's conventions are asserting that the establishment of the united nations in 1945 was predicted in advance by the witnesses.

  this is being presented as validation of the claim that the witnesses are god's one true organization directed by holy spirit.. .

  the basis for this claim originates with a public address entitled, peace - can it last given by n.h. knorr at the new world theocratic assembly, on september 20 of 1942. .

  ... so how is predicting the United Nations in 1942 or 1 in any way prescient ???

  Watchtower believes the scarlet-colored wild beast from Revelation is the League of Nations/United Nations. Rev 17:8 describes this beast as existing, then not existing, then existing again. Watchtower interprets this to mean the League of Nations came into existence after WWI, then went out of existence before WWII at some point, then came back as the United Nations after WWII, thus fitting the Revelation description that "the wild beast was, but is not, and yet will be present."

  Based on their understanding of this scripture Watchtower was predicting the return of the League (or pretending to), which became known as the UN, thus they were guided by God's Word and His spirit to accurately make the prediction, or so they claim.
  

  (Rev 17:8):  The wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it is to go off into destruction. And when they see how the wild beast was, but is not, and yet will be present, those who dwell on the earth will wonder admiringly, but their names have not been written upon the scroll of life from the founding of the world.

  Problemaddict2: ...it ended with a quick lecture on Jesus words regarding the Pharisees "lording it over the flock" and his ignorance as to what the original language and intend of jesus words were. Then a cherry on top of it really doesn't matter what you think, you don't qualify to be an elder, and are a stain n the congregation. :
  

  Funny, I've been thinking for the last few days how elders can actually be congregation bullies masquerading as loving older men (not all, but some). You summed up what I was thinking pretty well.

  so after the 2 special pioneers visited i thought i had given them an earful about the arc and the pedophile problem in their organization surely they would have put me on the do not call list.. oh, no not my luck i get an elder and his lovely little mute wife with infant child in the stroller this morning at 9 am.

  don't these people have a job to go to?

  it was a car with 3 men & a woman.. we go through the standard do you read the bible yada yada, i tell them i know the routine very familiar with your game.

  Confronting the elders with doubts

  i have already posted how i outed to an elder.... the only results were that another elder mentioned to me: "i heard you have doubts about the truth will you meet with us and clear it up... i also had doubts... i fixed them i can help.

  " laughing inwardly i said sure.. oh i'm going to slaughter this moron.

  when he asks my doubts i will show him the chromosome #2 video with ken miller.

  When confronted with questions they can't answer, the elders will likely say something like "We will not debate you on this." I believe the instructions for saying that are in the Elder's Manual.

  Then they will divert to asking you loaded questions like "Do you believe this is God's spirit directed organization on earth," or something similar.

  When the elder said "will you meet with us and clear it up" the deck was stacked. Personally, if it were me, I might have agreed to meet with him 1 on 1, but no more, and only at my house. It's probably going to be 3 against 1 in the meeting (at least 2 to 1) and they will manipulate it however they need to.

  So standing outside of the church during your Father in laws funeral is respectful? Really? Who writes this sh*t?

  It's so funny how their experiences all end with a happily ever after theme. Made up stories!

  I wondered the same thing. In the caption next to the photo it says,

  "One way to prove loyal to Jehovah is by showing respect for an unbelieving mate (see paragraph 9)"

  (Paragraph 9 has the Olga story)

  i like how the photos on another page show the mom taking the boys in sevice while the father goes golfing.

  Yes, it's the Feb 2016 study edition, p23, par9.

  The story of Olga is in paragraph 9, below the picture of the father going golfing.

  Edit: I am referring to the Regular edition, not the Large Print edition.  I'm not sure if they match each other page for page, so it might make a difference.

  just wondering because looking at that purple pimp outfit with hat that he wore to prince's memorial, i wonder if he ever gave a talk wearing the same outfit, when i've read here that some brothers were talked to for wearing a pastel colored shirt while giving a talk..

  Why is Larry Graham wearing purple from head to toe? Isn't it to honor Prince?

  Jehovah's Witnesses are supposed to believe that honor should go only to God, never to the individual; it's the main reason you can't observe your child's birthday.

  And why would a Jehovah's Witness in good standing be arm-in-arm, holding hands, with a woman he isn't married to?  (According to funeral coverage she is Shiela E.)
  

  Ordinary Witnesses would be yanked in a back room meeting with elders so fast it would make your head spin over either of these issues.

  She thought she was "loyal to God" because she did not go into the church!

  She imagined she was taking a "stand" because she stood outside.

  Yes I got that, it was actually my point. When Jehovah's Witnesses are the target of a negative behavior, such as being rejected or not spoken to, they portray that behavior as bad, unjust, worldly, etc, but when they engage in the exact same behavior they see it as being sanctioned by God. They don't see the contradiction of it due to being mind controlled.

  Yet JWs make people choose between family and religious beliefs all the time, shunning the family member if he/she chooses not to accept the religious beliefs of JWs.

  Complaining of being shunned and rejected is always a one way street with Jehovah's Witnesses.

  The decent thing would have been for her to be inside with all the other mourners.

  9 In South America, Olga proved loyal to God by showing respect for her husband even under trying circumstances. For years, he expressed annoyance at her for being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He abused her emotionally, insulted her, refused to speak to her, and threatened to take the children and leave her. But Olga did not return evil for evil. - WT Study, February 2016, page 23

  While this is meant to show how unfairly JWs are treated by others because of their beliefs, notice how Olga did exactly the same thing to others, rejecting them, including her husband, over nothing more than a religious view.
  

  In the same paragraph of the same study article quoted above it says...
  

  When possible, she accompanied him to gatherings of his family or colleagues. For example, when he wanted to go to another city for the funeral of his father, she got the children ready and prepared everything needed for the trip. She waited for her husband at the church door until the ceremony ended.

  Wasn't Olga, who was being shunned by her non-Witness husband over religious beliefs, doing the same thing to everyone that didn't agree with her? The paragraph says "She waited for her husband at the church door until the ceremony ended."

  What? She wouldn't go inside to be with her husband at his father's funeral? Why not? The article doesn't mention it, but no doubt it was over religious beliefs, she did not agree with what would be said in the church so she waited by the door.
  

  The article claims that "Olga did not return evil for evil," but apparently she did. She gave her husband the same rejection that he was giving her, and both were doing it over nothing more than religious beliefs.

  In addition, when a person leaves the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses he/she is completely cut off and rejected, again the same treatment that Olga received from her husband.
  

  If Jehovah's Witnesses can't see the double standards promoted by the Watchtower organization it's because they have willfully chosen not to see it. Such obvious contradictions as this leave me shaking my head, wondering how long people can keep their eyes closed.
