As I recall from seeing the movie years ago, the monsters that lived in the woods did not exist. When the monsters were seen, they were village elders dressed in monster suits. They did it to keep the villagers frightened so they would not dare venture beyond the village boundries and into the woods. There was no outside world. The only real world to them was their small, secluded community of people.

Yes, I can see definite similarities to the way the Watchtower demonizes the internet and the outside world to keep it's followers secluded. JWs are frightened. When an internet experience is related in a magazine or other publication, it is aways a hand picked, negative experience designed to keep the loyal followers frightened in.

Only the few who are courageous enough to venture beyond the boundries discover the real truth. Of course when a few discover there is no real harm out there, and that they have been controlled by manipulation, it is inevitable that more will follow. This is the struggle the Watchtower now faces.

Actually I doubt there are that many, but that isn't the point. The point is the way the Society covers up the problem, pushing the victims into the background, neglecting their needs, while trying to maintain the good, clean public image of an organization that is enjoying a 'Spiritual Paradise', when in reality it is no different from many other religious groups.

Doubts....me too. Things like, What would the Society do about the generation of 1914 if time ran out? Something would have to give. Would there be a re-thinking of 1914? If not, what else could change?

There should have been a re-thinking of 1914, but no. To my amazement the definition of the generation changed. Then changed again a few years later. And again soon after that. I felt it had become ridiculous and unbelievable. Nothing more than controlling what people believed.

And I recall a CO visit where he said that to have the Truth you had to have the NWT of the Bible. From there things became more organization oriented, which is to say you had to believe everything the Organization said. More emphasis was being placed on the WTS being guided by holy spirit. The Bible was effectively taking second place to the GB, a very fault the Society had found with Church leaders.

Too many doubts to mention really.

The doubts cracked open the internet, where a world of provable facts against the WTS awaited. Using the internet to examine the Watchtower is the best thing I have ever done.

Same here. No question about it, the information found on the internet was HUGE for me. It's no wonder the Society is trying so hard to keep Witnesses off of it.

Try spelling out the numbers to search for them.

This quote relates to 1799, the 1260 days (or years), and the "last days." Some of the numbers are spelled out,

I agree. When I first reviewed the chart I noticed some very large and very small percentage numbers. Then, looking over at the actual number of Publishers, and the number that were added or subtracted for the following year, I could see why the percentage was so big.

When there are only a few Publishers an increase/decrease of 5, 10 or 20 people can make the percentages look huge, but they are not very meaningful.

why can't we get shows like star trek anymore?

seems like the original star trek was almost universally enjoyed.

from the kooky music theme 'space.....ahhhhh ahhhh ahhh ahhhhhhhh ahhh', the upbeat message, the deep subject matter...the chemistry of the characters.

you remember being much younger almost felt like not a care in the world?

I started liking Star Trek in re-runs. Then came the movies, which were great successes even though some of them weren't very good. Then the biggie, Star Trek: The Next Generation.

It holds up after all these years; good writing, good story tellling, imaginative plots. I feel it is one of the best television shows ever made.

As much as I liked the original show, now it seems kind of lame compared to TNG.

as many of you are aware the elders visited my sister and asked her (a non witness) to ask me not to contact my mother (a dedicated believer).. lo and behold, they went were angels fear to tread and spoke with my mother who in turn asked them to show her from scripture where a baptized person who was disfellowshipped and had it reversed was a threat to anyone?.

as far as she was concerned they were 'sheperding" (i call it fishing) and asked where i lived as they would like to contact me, hmmm a flight to the us would be theraputic.

she denied there request for the information.. they told her they were looking out for her spiritual well being.

You were disfellowshipped, but had it reversed. Was the disfellowshipping rescinded, or did you get reinstated?

Either way, why would the elders care if you talk with your mother?
