What a wonderful age in which to live

sadly for her, she had had surgery to remove her whole nose and what was fitted with a very obvious prosthetic nose, a nose that was instant fascination for small boys, who would often jeer at her.
i called her to mind and the difficulty she likely faced whenever she went out when i read this report.. scientists grow cartilage to reconstruct nose.

In any serious discussion the two most important questions are:
1. What do you mean? That handles the easy part. People can define things anyway they want. Even if they have some obscure meaning to a word you can accept that to move the argument along. Legal documents will start off defining the way terms will be used.
2. How do you know? This usually involves an If-Then statement of relationship or a series of causes and effects.
Most theories collapse at the "How do you know?"
Take any Watchtower and read every sentence and precede it with "How do you know..." Then do that with every explanation.
You don't have to spend much time on religious concepts because you quickly arrive at a tautology.

The WT and it's views on depression.
by quellycatface inas a few of you may remember, i suffer from bipolar.. when working at the uk home office, i was signed off by my doctor with depression and anxiety.. in the space of 11 months i was assessed by 2 home office doctors, both diagnosing me as unfit for work.
i eventually left.. how therefore, can stupid little people in the kh say you'll be better doing fs, ministry school and being regular at meetings??.
they have to be the most un-empathetic bunch of people on the planet.

Unfortunately there really is a lot of garbage therapy. And there are garbage drugs.
There are also very good and expensive therapy and good drugs for specific mental problems.
The vast majority of people everywhere are maladapted and don't know their own minds.
But the human specialty is adaptation. Sometimes we over do it.
A book about ritual mutilation of male sex organs, fathers having sex with their daughters, stabbing infidel women in their pregnant wombs, sex addict kings with hundreds of wives, armies instructed on the proper way to humiliate the virgins they collected in battle etc. somehow doesn't seem like a person with mental problems ought to be devoting many hours of consideration.

This isn't the Watchtower interpretation. The JW prophecies are rooted in dogma. People who are dead now figured they knew what Daniel and Revelation means.
Economics is not just about money. In this case you have the USA trying to dominate the world and you have players that are going to stop that.
Look at revelation a little more.
Babylon the Great is described as being the key consumer of the worlds merchandise.
Babylon is NOT the churches as the Watchtower claims. Religion makes up only 3% of the ECONOMIC activity in any country. JW's don't understand that the Wealth of any religion is relatively small. They spin this idea that Governments are going to turn on religion to plunder its "hidden wealth". Governments don't need more real estate or objects of art. Some of the poorest countries in the world have plenty of land. Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Germany, Switzerland don't need land. They need people who know how to produce and sell their goods, handle the money.
Revelation says Babylon the Great's "traveling merchants were the top ranking men in the earth"
You know what's interesting about that statment?
You can actually count the "top ranking men in the earth". Well, Forbes magazine does it for us.
There are 72 people listed on forbes list of the people who rule the world. "Rule the World" good phrase for "top ranking men in the earth"
29 of the top ranking men listed are Americans.
Russia has 4 so it comes in 2nd
China,India,Mexico,Switzerland and the UK come in next with 3 each
France, Germany, Japan, Saudia Arabia, South Korea come in next with 2 each
The rest on the list have one person each in which case they are a politcal leader and usually wealthy.
So if Babylon the Great is false religion wouldn't you expect to see them dominate the list?
Do you know how many religious leaders make the list?
Only 2. Pope Francis and Ali Hoseini-Khamenei (Iran)
I can understand why you may not want to hear these things. Of course you think any discussion of prophecy is absurd.
But some things need to be explained and not simply ignored. The entity called Babylon the Great whose traveling merchants were the top ranking men in the earth is destroyed by a union of a country that appeared slaughtered to death and a union of10 other countries that never were in the empire game. Putin is trying to build that Union. And he will succeed.

As soon as you see that The Wild Beast in Revelation is the same succession of kings as listed in Daniel's various visions you will see the whole picture becomes more coherent.
The seventh head of the beast in Revelation is Russia.
Babylon the Great is the USA.
In Revelation who is on top?
The Harlot rides the Wild Beast. AND has a kingdom over all the kings of the earth.
The 7th head of the beast is an extension of the Roman empire just like the feet of Iron (Rome) and Clay (Various Nationalities that Don't stick together except for the Iron Roman Style of rulership)
The 7th head appeared slaughtered. That's the death of the Soviet Union. Think about it. Is there any other major player on the world stage that has died. And now it is back. BOY IS IT BACK! Obama says it's not the cold war. Then what is it. I lived through the building of the wall in Berlin. I lived when Russian tanks rolled into Hungary. I remember the Tanks in Czecholslovakia. I remember the Cuban missile crisis. Whether you want to admit it or not 40,000 Russian troops ready to roll into Ukraine is a serious statement to the West. How does the west react? They dare Putin to do anything. You don't dare a man of impulsive action who is in his senior years. Push. Push. Push. Isn't that what Daniel the 11th Chapter about?
When the beast that was (Soviet Union) died then suddenly it wasn't. Maps had to be printed to erase all the SSR's after the various territories.
The beast came back as old fashioned Russia. It looked like a lamb. It spoke of open markets, private ownership. What did Russia get for that.
What did Russia get for allowing Germany to Reunite. What did they get for pulling their troops out of eastern europe. They had the word of Bush Sr. that those countries would remain neutral and Nato wouldn't move in. Clinton THE GREAT (Liberal? Democrat) pushed Nato into Poland, Hungary, Czech, Slovakia, . Any schoolboy who has studied history knows that Russia would not allow Nato to reach it's borders in Ukraine and Georgia but especially Ukraine - the Birthplace of Russia.
The stage is set. Let the play begin.

Need some advice...For my kids
by Jon Preston insince being out mentally and missing meetings my children mention people from the hall and i cant help but feel bad that they are missing the association.
my daughters are 4 and 2 and we live in a small town with not a whole lot to do.
what activities did you do with your kids?

When I had a couple hours to spend with my young kids we would try to see how many parks we could get to. Each park is different. With different activities and equipment. Have them try everything out a couple times and then move on to the next park. On long afternoons we could get to 5 or 6 parks. That way you find out their favorite activities. Lots of conversation driving between parks.

As much as they talk about this wonderful witness life - it's an illusion.
Talk to the JW's who went to prison for 3 to 5 years because they would have been kicked out of the organization if they did alternative service. Talk to Terry. I haven't read his book because I just can't hear that stuff any more.
Yeah they had a little bit of a frat life. Some of them got raped. Others beaten. Other's had their wives cheat on them while they were in jail. When they got out of jail they could never get a decent job because they were felons. They couldn't buy a house because they had a $10,000 fine hanging over them and to pay it was considered a compromise.
You don't even have an idea.
Then there's the 100% incidence of malaria on the West Coast of Africa where many missionaries were sent and lost their health.
The most successful people in the organization are the ones who came in AFTER they went to college and uninhibitedly fullfilled some of their sexual interests. Because they weren't rushed, they found mates that they actually got along with because they met them in college classes that assured they had shared interests. They didn't have to wash windows, paint, clean, lay carpet until they physically were broken. Some fortunate ones came from families that were well connected in the organization and got breaks because of who they knew.
You don't hear about the daughter of a witness couple that got divorced and was kicked out of the house at 18 and had to take menial jobs to survive. Some people don't have the stamina to be in with the alpha's. Some are never invited to gatherings of any sort because their father's aren't elders.
Then there are the skinny intellectual sisters that couldn't find a marriage mate in their small circle of witness friends. So, they pioneer, believing Jehovah is going to find them a mate. If they could have gone to college they would have met a lot of guys that would find them attractive and share the same intellectual interests. You see these pale corpses faithfully preaching and getting older and older. And when an older brother's wife dies who does he marry? Some young nymph that just barely became a witness.
I know a lot of JW's in their 60's and 70's that have had horrible lives simply because they sacrificed their youth to pioneer. Bad health. No insurance because they were stuck in self employment. If you wash windows for 10 years and then look for a job your resume scares people.
There is something sick about seeing those frat boys hanging out at a warm beach with palm trees and mountains in the distance. Try pioneering in a big northern city like Detroit, or Chicago.
The worst part about this is that the old timers who sacrificed so much dare not open their mouths about it because they will be labeled an apostate.
The deal was - we bought into our parents dream and trusted their judgement about "truth". We have now burried our parents. There is not a single writer of the crap that persuaded our parents that is alive today. All our teachers are dead. We are almost dead.
You see Emeth there are a lot of stories. Your success doesn't impress us. We have scars that are long and deep.

I should have paid attention to the mixed message.
Almost 40 years later they are still saying the end is near. BUT_
They are building their world HQ in Tuxedo NY. The hoopla is that Jehovah is blessing this project because everything is coming together so
smoothly. So, what's the message? If that building is going to take 3 more years to build and then you calculate the use of the building to justify the expenditure they really aren't expecting the end too soon. Of course there is the justification made by the GB that Jehovah may use that building after armageddon.
If armageddon were to come they won't need that particular building. Won't they kind of have a choice of ANY building that is still standing? And won't they have a choice of locations, and endless amounts of building materials if they wanted to build somewhere else?
