Ha! I used to live around there actually!!! I remember how the South Chicago and suburbs congregations would reminisce and lament the fact that they could no longer hold the conventions so close. We always had to drive to Rockford or Bloomington, and I LOVED the travel part of it, it meant Steak N Shake and fancy dining :D AND THE POOL AT THE HOTEL!!! My god, the things that went on in the pool, in the hot tub, and IN THE STEAM ROOM!!!

Known Pedophile takes young boy to bathroom at circuit assembly....WTF?
by QuestioningEverything inmy mil's circuit assembly was this past weekend.
she came over for dinner to our home after the assembly.
in conversation, it came up that a known pedophile was seen walking to the bathroom holding a young boy's hand-no relation to the boy at all, although that wouldn't make a difference!

WTF that's just so sad and angering!!!
I would call the authorities, anony of course, but first gather everything you can about him, and this particular case, because let's be real, the elders and the other JWS are not going to do anything, and this sick bastard is just going to keep abusing kids.
How those people who saw what happened and don't do anything about can sleep at night baffles me.

Did U Ever "Stumble" Anyone? Were U Ever "Stumbled: By Another?
by minimus inthe reason many jws forgo things is because they are afraid of "stumbling" a brother or sister.
just in case---they make it a point to not do or say something that could cause a person to leave "the truth".. i knew of some witnesses that were always "stumbled" by this or that.. so silly..

Yessir, I've been stumbled big time. By the time I hit 15 , I was completely immersed in this religion, wanted to get dipped, answered questions and was trying my darnest to get 'in' with the pious crowd.
And then that damned JW party at the local park district happened...
I was ridiculed for the way I wore my hear, my clothes, nobody would sit with me, and while everyone else was on the dance floor, I was the ONLY one nobody went near. My one friend I thought I had was being recruitted by the 'cool' pious kids, and the look on his face when I went to say hi... well, their faces, all of theirs, definitely did a number on my self esteem. I crumbled in my bed that night and cried the whole night. The next morning I saw myself in the mirror, realized it had been jealousy all along and kept thinking How could Jehovah allow these people be on top? Why is nobody doing anything about it, they're so obvious!!!??? Couple that with my slutty cousin, dipped and pioneering, sleeping with a cousin (yuck I know) and yeah after I asked an older sister for 'help' she pretty much told me I was in the wrong and I needed to be more spiritual, maybe dress more 'homely' so as to not make the other's feel bad.
Was the day I got my head out of my butt and saw things in a whole new light. After that incident, I started realizing other things, pieces of the puzzle started falling into place.
And OF COURSE I have stumbled many others. I'm darn proud as well. Many of the young ones who looked up to me, that one friend from up there who is now a very talented musician, and a sweet girl who is now true to herself instead of letting her mom run her life. I'm happy when I hear that another young un leaves, expecially if I had the 'special talk' with them before I moved accross the country :)>

A missing husband or wife.
by thomyorke indo you remember, in which "reader's question" was an article about cases, when a husband officially declared as a missing?.
(probably he is dead or captured by somali pirates...).
i remember, that article was very strange- there was stated that it would be possible to make a divorce.... but if such missed person will "ressurect", this couple must get married again!.

How Does Your Family/ Friends Treat You Now That You Are Not A True Believer?
by minimus inhow do you feel about the treatment?.

Well they're not shunning me, except for the momster, but that has nothing to do with the JW org.
They are however very careful with what they say around me. They don't pressure me to go back or say "The end is near, I'll miss you not being there" and all that jazz, but they are somewhat stand-offish when I present facts and truths about their chosen religion.
Other than that, it's all right. I am respectful of their life style, and in return they are of mine. I actually have a couple of JW Facebook friends, and the same thing goes, we don't bring it up, we don't try to convince each other.

Whoooa that's a bunch of Loose Lucies up there!!!
In my experience, it was more of teens being total sluts and potheads and lushes, but still able to pioneer, make presentations and give great speeches, especially the brothers. Ugh I disliked that little group soooo much growing up. They were snotty, they were not bullies like the 'pious' teens, but they had this air about them, as if bragging about their wild ways outside the congregation but being considered pearls inside it.
It sucked that whenever someone would snitch about them, no one would believe. Brother Johnny would never! He has fifteen studies, has helped baptize eight of them, and the hours and magazines placed!!! Why, I never....
Nowadays they are still doing their good deeds, but from what I hear they've calmed down a bit. Except for their enthusiasm with guns (machine guns and whatnot).
Lol

Hey exwhyzee that last one is HILLARIOUS. But your wife and her sisters sure are lucky to have such a reasonable man, others would just lock up their daughters and 'git their guns' to threaten the young men (my uncle did this. Shotgun wedding anyone?)

I absolutely HATED listening to this bs when they were read during Watchtower or book studies!!! Gaaaaaarrrr I sat there, with this incredulous smile on my face and looked around, thinking "They can't think we're that dumb, surely not????!!!!" but most around me had such dreamy smiles, pride, or were drooling.
