EVERYONE IS A THEIST
by botchtowersociety insince everything comes from god, it's the starting point for each of our journeys even if many move away from it.
some return while others never do though even these remain 'theists' towards a deeply held conviction.
eventually we all die and meet our maker and end up in the presence of belief and knowledge as when we began.. the journey is what makes a life and if yours contains a lack of belief in god that's fine - so long as it causes no harm.

Since everyone is always discussing God, and whether or not to believe in him/her/it, it would be interesting to define exactly what God is. Most westerners define God as Yahweh of the Old Testament, a sort of craftsmen who constructed the universe. Even as the deists among the founding fathers in America dismissed the supernatural excesses of the Bible, they held on to the idea of a cosmic watchmaker.
But as we learn more about the complexity of the universe, this model seems simplistic. The best modern definition I've heard of God is from theologian Paul Tillich, who said that God is the "ground of being." In other words, God is the what it is to BE, to exist, in opposition to non-being. In this sense, I agree with you, God is the starting point for each of our journeys.

Well, he is a politician. Do you expect him to not want to look good for re-election?
As far as his agenda being twisted, I guess that depends on your perspective.

Oh please, don't tread that tired road. If anything, Obama is a cosmopolitan secular humanist. If his Christianity is more than political posturing, then maybe a liberal Christian like Paul Tillich or Martin Luther King.
As far as the Muslim boogey-man meme, remember that the Muslims preserved the writings of the Greeks that serve as the basis for our western world, among other achievements.
Sic Semper Tyrannis wrote: Well, one huge difference would be that Mitt Romney was born into his church, whereas Obama chose his and called it the "best the black church had to offer".
As many of us here know, one can leave a church one was born in if one disagrees with it. In fact, it is one's moral duty to do so. Even if one was born into a church, it is still a choice to stay in that church.
As far as Obama's choice, I agree that it was a bad decision, I don't defend him on partisan crowds. I think it was an obvious political calculation to get the black vote in Chicago, but in the long run it was even a bad political move.

Wait until the Mormons' dirty laundry comes out the closet (like not allowing blacks to serve in their priesthood until 1978, for starters).
Not sure what's wrong with some of the things Rev Wright says in those videos. Some of the rhetoric goes overboard, but America did commit many atrocities in its history; Vietnam, Slavery, near genocide of the real Americans. Anyone who denies or downplays these things is naive of history.

LOL! I just saw that movie for the first time about a week ago. They need to play that at next year's memorial.

Does the WTS now teach that the people of Noah's day and the people of Sodom will be resurrected?

The homosexualists of Sodom will probably not be resurrected. However, Lot, who escaped and had drunken sex with his daughters, will be resurrected.

Countless strawman attacks against the "world" among other errors in reasoning. This comment especially struck me:
What are they doing so free or "open minded" that everyone else is not? From an outside look, it would seem they live the same exact life everyone else in this system is living, following the same paths and "goals." They all follow the same advice, philosophies, teachings, sexual pleasures and appetites, and other traits that all these "free" and so-called "open-minded" people are following!
Well, no. There are a multitude of philosophies and ways of living. To say that everyone is following the same path shows an extremely limited worldview.
Also, the writer acts as if those who leave and pursue higher education just do so for the high paycheck, etc. Some also actually enjoy what they are learning and enriching their mind. Oh yeah, those critical thinking skills help out too.

Existentialism has gotten a bad rap for being a gloomy or nihilistic philosophy. But when delving into it, one finds it is very life affirming. The point is that though much in life may be absurd, one can still create meaning and take responsibility for one's life. It is the ultimate excercise of free will.
The little Sartre I read in college was good. Camus' Myth of Sisyphus was one of my favorites. But I have to hand it to Nietzsche for shaking me out of my post-JW stupor.
