How much do you believe in God's blessings?

the more i talk to the brothers and sisters, the more i question what so-called "blessings" god gives to us.

yesterday i had the #3 talk at the hall.

and because my family has that "perfect family example" status in the hall, i got all the comments about how wonderful i did and how fantastic it was for being a young man(20)....yada yada yada.

It's a very simple concept. Everything good that happens to you is because of God. Everything bad that happens to you is because of Satan. If something bad happens to you, God made sure it was not even worse.

LOL! That's always how I felt about how these blessings were passed off. Those who have the "priveleges" of going across the world to preach, and do the RBC etc, proudly exclaim how they are just sooo blessed day in and day out. While of couse there are other witnesses "putting God first" just the same but are dying and unhappy and going through terrible circumstances. I could never be convinces that God would bless a select few and leave the others to live a bad life. But of course, any bad circumstances are only the ploys of Satan trying to pull you away from God's organization.

"that one day I was going to give talks at assemblies."

^O I really get tired of that one. lol. As do I. Procrastination is my friend. I try to escape from the friends before they can talk to me after the meeting. I talk to the ones considered "bad association" only because their not baptized yet. Some tend not to approach as much.

And because my family has that "perfect family example" status in the hall, I got all the comments about how wonderful I did and how fantastic it was for being a young man(20)....yada yada yada. Then of course the brothers tell me how I have a gift. And that talk was blessing from Jehovah. And that God's sprit was at work there. And don't I see what Jehovah does for me when I put him first, he will bless us? First of all, I haven't prayed to god since I got baptized four years ago so he has no reason to bless me. Second of all, what do our parents tell us when we are kids? PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! It was called practice ladies and gentlemen.

Good talk with mum and dad

she's 77 and both mum and dad have been witnesses for nearly 30 years.

they've been pretty hardline in their time but just recently things have changed.

today, to my joy, mum wanted to celebrate her birthday so i bought her a big bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates (yeah i know, not very imaginative) and intend to take them out to lunch tomorrow when i've got more time.

What a great story! I'm really happy you had the opportunity to discuss that with them. My parent are in their late 40's . I hope I don't have to wait that long before they "mature"....though I'm thinking that will never happen.

Anyone ever fake ring the doorbell when going door to door?

when i used to pioneer i would press to the side of the doorbell and act like i pressed it and then say "oh i think the bell must be broken".

HA! I love this topic. I'm attemptimg at all costs to avoid service which is impossible because of my o-so-zealous family engaged in it. But when I am out, I fake all the door bell rings. I hate when there is no door bell. Because then I'm forced to knock. Thankfully , just doing the invitations is MUCH easier than magazines....

Does Jehovah really support the preaching work?

there is no doubt jws are famous for the preaching work even if you do not agree with the doctrine.

i have always wondered why if the work is so important and backed by jehovah, jesus, and the angels why do pioneers, cos, dos and assembly hall overseers and their wives etc.

who are on the front lines get cancer and other debilitating diseases that take them out of the most important work in the so called" last days".

Well imagine if God automatically sheilded the prominent JW's from any harm to continue the preaching work. How many people would FLOCK to the religion if they knew for a fact that if they had a good postion/rank, they could stay perfectly healthy? They know that no matter what position they have, they are still affected by the same illnesses and trials as everyone else in the world. Yet, they continue to preach...which I really think is more of a "witness" in itself. Despite their ailments(if they have them), they continue to put Jah(or the JW's) first. If they were immune to disease, they might end up serving Jehovah for the wrong reasons in their minds.

@miseryloveselders: Unfortunately my circumstances do allow for it because I only work 3 days a wk. I'm trying to find things to occupy my time more, but thats not working out.

Yes there's so many good JW's that I love like you do. When a great young brother(26) asked me if I was pioneering, I said maybe. He told me to put in my slip because there's still time. I said I might. I tried the whole "just increasing my hours" routine. He told me to put in my slip. He then asked me how many days I work. I said three. He said to put in my slip. Thankfully the meeting began so there was no need to continue the cycle. It's terrible that my dad is the elder who hands out the pioneer applications to everyone who asks. To outsiders, I have no reason NOT to do it.

Abosolutely not! I agree with everything else the other users stated. I got baptised when I was 16(20 now), and I completely regret it because so much is expected of you when you hardly know what you want to be when you get older, let alone make the decision to serve God for the rest of your life, and if not, be shunned by EVERYONE you may know. I feel terrible for the ones who got baptised much younger than I did. They are still at the stage where they are trying their best to gain their parents acceptance and love. The may get baptised for that reason, and that reason alone, though they may insist otherwise. Many havent even hit puberty yet! no hormones raging. No responsibilities, other than to the JW's. Sheesh. . Its definitely not ok
