Good words Trevor, and in agreement with my thoughts (that's why I know they are good words!) :):):). Thank you for your support on the "will God pick another org." thread. This was after my dogged attempt to get some straight answers from MDS and his desciples.

If you want to see my philosophy, it is under the thread abut whether us X's are still Christians. It's pretty long and I did't want to rewrite it here. Anyway, Trevor, I would be intersested in your thoughts on my thoughts.

Over the years, I have had inense periods of intense involvement with things like this forum folowed by long periods of noninvolvement. About ten years ago I was going to write a book entitled, "The Psychology of Jehovah's Witnesses". I wrote about 150 pages of draft material, but did not have the emotional stamina to finish it. It would have required more reading of Watchtower lierature than the most zealous members and frankly, I just didn't want to do that. I still find it a handy reference and have been able to draw upon it for comments here on occasion.

Hey Xandit,

Your last post makes sense to me. You did get strong objections to your beliefs, but by being polite you were able to stave off any retrobution (sp?).

You were lucky if you had some close friends that you could share your reservations with. RHW mentioned her's regarding 1975. I think most of us didn't want to share these with others, because you didn't know who would turn you in. You might recall that JAVA's own wife turned him in for voting on a local school bond issue. Also, you were lucky you had independent ideas early on, which eventually helped you get out. I do think, that the majority of the members are not idependent thinkers and are fearful of those who are. In my own case I assiudsously avoided voicing my disbleifs when I became inactive. My relatives asked why, and I would simply say that I didn't want to discuss it because I didn't want to "stumble them". Actually, I didn't want to incurr their wrath and suddenly face the Elders. I knew the people involved were to close minded to tolerate my ideas. I think this kind of situation is the rule, not the exception. Again, Xandit, I think you were very lucky to have a somewhat better set of circumstances.

You know folks,

I'm a little bit calmer today. I didn't shoot myself last night, because I realized that that would be bad for my health.

Yesterday, I was wondering if Super Bowl Sunday might be a pagan celebration, so I called an Elder. He told me that it was and it goes back to the Roman gladiators days. Here all along, I thought it only went back to the coal mining towns of Ohio and Pa. Maybe it became pagan when they went from playing in cow pastures to playing in big stadiums, with all those drunked up, rowdy spectators. I told the Elder that I would like to come visit him and discuss this whole matter in more detail, even though Sunday might not be a good day. Well, he told me that he would love to talk about this furthure, but he was committed to going to a special three hour Elder's meeting, and he had to get to the store to get some chips and dip and a 12 pack to take to the meeting. I told him that I understood that he had to meet his obligations and that I would get back to him later.

Xandit is like an archeologist who casually studies a culture, but really never lived it. There are certain things that an outsider doesn't know and can't comprehend until they've lived in a culture. Based on what he has said here, and what he has said about 1975, and about college leads me to believe that Xandit hasn't lived it. I have never known a JW or xJW who shares his views on these issues. I will say that Xandit is quite a comversation starter!

clearly there is a great deal of anti-jw sentiment here and elsewhere for that matter.

such feelings are generally directed at those at the heart of the organisation and there are no such feelings for the rank and file who are often very genuine people.. in actual fact there are some advantages in being a fully loaded jw and to be fair it would be interesting to note them down.

they can be factual or whimsical or both.

a good book,.

i was wondering if any of you have read a book "visions of glory" by barbara grizzutti harrison.

as far as i know, it is the only book written by a woman about the witness experience.

I agree with your last comment. I wish I would have had all the fun she had.:)
She struck me as a very strong, forth right woman, who grew up through the concrete and survived. I would love to have her in my home and be able to talk to her for hours.

I have to retract my compliment on your proof. I took it at face value. After reading mommies comments on her research, I have to reconsider this whole issue.

How do you feel about smacking at K Hall?

i am not anti -smacking by the way,(except at the kh) but it is always the very last resort.. latte

The children that do the best when they are little are the one's that are shy and quiet by nature. The more energetic children are punished. Later on, the quiet ones who where model children are considered spiritualy weak because they don't like the door to door activity, while the active ones who were punished as children are praised when they love the preaching work.

In all of this there is no understanding of individual differences and how to let each individual make his or her own contribution. Everyone has to fit into the mold, no matter what their nature.

Yes, you did show that prophesy can be fulfilled twice. That was your best work. There are several other questions that I asked, plus Ianao's, plus mommie's. I know this is a lot to deal with, but when people ask, I think you should answer.
