I remember when I was a kid back in the 60's it seem to me everyone in the kingdom hall was very hard core about the WT. teachings. Today those hard cord members are very old and dying off. Not to say ones from my generation are not hard core many are. But I do feel many JW are now cherry picking some of the so called new light. Which weakens their faith in the WT and hopefully causes them to wake up. I think the internet really caught the GB off guard and it took them along time to catch up and try to stop the imformation bleeding of their teachings. When it comes to that they have loss the war. In this 12 year old thread it did mention their worst fear was the apppostates. For them more so that ever today. So the only thing they can think of doing is rounding up the wagons and fight off the attack. This so called new light this year is a great example of how scared they are that they are coming up with so called new teachings to control the minds of their subjects. So their subjects will spend large amounts of time digesting this new thinking and not see whats really going on at the WT. In my lifetime I have observed when you know someone is guility of a lie they use the tactic against their critics of saying they are the ones lying. Instead of showing those criticizing them why they believe what they say is true. In other words throw the burden of proof back on the one who caught them in the lye. My 2 cents. Totally ADD

12-year-old thread: JWS/WTS REACHES CRITICAL MASS - A NON-EVENT!
by steve2 ina few days ago, there was renewed interest in a 12-year-old thread which, among other points, argued the watchtower's days were numbered.
several current posters expressed the view that the wts has not been impacted by any "critical mass" and that it speaks to the immunity of the watchtower to any such "critical mass" event.
i thought the topic warranted a renewal for wider consideration - with the "benefit" of "12-years" hindsight - so have duplicated one of my responses: .

Unemployment is down, but why did America set a record 47.8 million on food stamps?
by moshe inin the usa a new record was set on food stamp enrollments, which seems ironic.
you would think as unemployment drops , food stamp usage would be dropping, too.
maybe those government unemployment numbers are fake numbers.

Both reason have been mention. (Reason #1) Most of those on food stamps are hard working people. Fullfilling the so called social contract. Sense the 1000 point of lights era wages have been going down and down except for the very wealthy they been going up and up. The wage gap is wider than ever and getting wider. I don't understand why the very rich have to have every dollar there is but we are reaching a point were soon no one will be able to afford anything. (Reason #2) Farm subsidies from the govt. mostly go to corn, wheat and soybeans. With these foods most of it is made into high calorie foods that are cheap to buy. Were the good whole foods fruit, vegtables, milk products are more costly because of lack of subsidies. 50 million people no go hungry in the U.S. Back in 1968 there was a documentary hunger in the U.S.. Sen. Dole had a bill past to help them and Nixson signed it into law. For the most part it worked but in 1980 Regan had that program slashed and stated that chairty groups could help the hungry in U.S. Ever since then more and more are now going hungry even though there are more food banks than ever. The working class better wake up soon take notice and stop the billionaires who are running this country into the ground. That's my 2 cents worth. Totally ADD

Back in 2004 I was working at the WT HQ for a week my friend and I took a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was summer and many young ladies were wearing totally see through tops with no bra on. Who needs a strip club! That was the best walk I have ever took. LOL Like frre2beme said it was a big city thing. Totally ADD

Were You A Sneaky Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus inyou know, the type that looked like a model witness but at home you were not the best example o your family?.
or maybe you accepted from the faithful slave that oral sex was bad, but you did it secretly---same with masturbation.. or perhaps you put in some wonderful hours and placements on that report slip, knowing you might have exaggerated just a bit.. so, were you one who practiced what you preached?.
-
TotallyADD
I think everbody did something that the cult consider bad. When my wife and was first married we started having oral sex. Back then you could be DF for that if it got out. But both of us thought that was our business not the elders. We would watch R-rated movies and even went to a rock concert. Not once did lighting strike us. Maybe this was the wedge that help us wake up! Totally ADD

The Organization Does Not Want You To Think!
by minimus inthey try to keep you on a hamster's wheel and never give you a break.. if you are young and single, you should be a regular pioneer.. if you are gifted and intelligent you should not even think of college, just preach the beliefs of the watchtower.. if you want to get married and then have kids, that's typically discouraged since we are so deep in this time of the end.. if you are married and have a family, you are expected to act superhuman and perform feats as a way of life like preparing for and attending all meetings, getting out in field service every weekend, caring for the children, feeding them, getting them ready for theocratic activities, and making sure you show appreciation for the spiritual food by being early for the meetings and commenting as you are expected to.
.
then there's family worship night which the pharisees invented in order to study more of the organization's doctrines.. meanwhile if you or your family are under the weather or feeling ill, you are guilted into going to the kh, participating and looking joyful.. is there any wonder why "apostates" are so content in life, now??.

If there is a god who created everthing. Didn't he give us free will and to have the ablity of "independent thinking"? But the first thing the WT and other cult's do is tell new people is "independent thinking is wrong". If they accept that thought the rest of the control measures are easy to accept. I marvel at how the WT are masters of this concept. Only madmen and sociopath can come up with this stuff. Yet they do it with a smile on their face. Totally ADD

Did you have someone that annoys you at every meeting?
by Iamallcool inat every meeting and every assembly i went to, a sister would always ask me "how are you?

As an elder I had this sister who had mental problems. She loved to call me in the middle of the night and tell me how no one loved her in the hall and she was angry about it. It did not matter what you said her mind was made up it was everyone else problem and not hers. She did finally get the help she needed (extended visit at a metal ward). I sure lost alot of sleep over this. I do hope she got what she needed. Totally ADD

Greetings Apocryphal. I am happy you have woke up and have come to learn the WT is a cult. The advantage you have is your age. Just take your time. You will find if you let it as time goes by you will find the perfect time to let everybody know. Just take your time. My wife and I woke up about three years before we made the complete break. It's hard but will worth the wait. The best to you and good to hear from you. Totally ADD

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!!!!!
by Julia Orwell inthat's how i feel when i see these crazy new wt study articles and the inane reasoning contained therein, and the indoctrination machines of meetings run by all those little hardened human cogs and the unending stream of propaganda we're pitched up against.
.. you could spend all your time working through those wt articles (see cedar's post on the latest 'new light') and refuting the stupidity, and yet most witnesses aren't even concerned with changes to the fds or 144 000 because like all of humanity they're too busy trying to scratch a living as it is.
such airy doctrine changes don't have any effect on their day to day lives and is thus irrelevant.

I agree with gma-tired2. I remember my Dad when so called new light came out. He was willing to forget the old teaching and dive right into the new so called light. He be so happy about this because he felt he was learning something know one else knew. After all it was a college education!!! Cults are experts of how to do this. The WT has been doing it for a long time. Totally ADD

Identity Crisis: Who Am I?
by Emery inafter learning ttatt, i have completely abandoned christian fundamentalism.
thus, dropping many superstitions, prejudices, and biases associated with legalistic interpretations of the bible.
although i am agnostic, i still adhere to many christian principles, not because i think they are divine truths, but because i've benefited from the wisdom.. since i no longer believe in the inspiration of the bible, i repeatedly find myself falling into questions of conscience, ones which i've never faced before... .

Many of my new friends are Atheist. They are not Amoral or lacking moral sensibility. Just the opposite. The ones I know believe with this one life they have one mission that is to make life better for everybody. They show the same moral attributes any reiligionous person would. One who feels they do they things because of fear of what a god would do to them. The diffrence is Atheist don't have a fear of some divine higher up looking over their shoulder judging them. They do this because they have develop within themselves a moral code of conduct. It is in all of us to do this. What I have seen you do not need religion to do this. Instead you have to work real hard on yourself to accomplish this. The problem is doing this is not easy and many fall into believing in a god to ease the hard work. Using that fear of a godly judgment like a crutch to keep them from doing bad things. I am not saying all Atheist are good moral people but like Christian there are bad apples everywhere. I do understand were you are coming from. I was there a few years ago. It takes time to mull all of this in your brain. But down the road you will find your real self and that is when you will be happier for it. My hope is everything will work out for you. Take Care. Totally ADD

North Korea is a cult nations. They worship their war machine and that little guy who runs it. I so feel the new leader has no say in anything and the military runs the show while he is just a figure head. One good thing I think China has had enough of North Korea shit. China knows where their money is invested in and were it is coming from. Hands off the golden goose. But I may be wrong. North Korea is one wacky nation for sure. Totally ADD
