Good to hear about your experience going to the assembly. Sorry about your sister. You are right 11 years old is way to young to make a life decision like that. On the news the other day scientist said you become a adult at 23 to 24 years old. The reason for them saying that is your brain stops growing at that time. Just another brick in the wall on why JW's are a cult. They use to preach that child baptism was bad at one time. Now thats all they want to do. If you need to be deprogram because of the one day assembly please come up to our house and the misses and I will help you out. LOL Maybe we can get PaulnotSaul and his wife to come over for you. Just stay close to your sister. She will see you will always be there to help. Take care. Totally ADD

I went to the ASSembly
by MrFreeze ini didn't think i'd ever have a reason to go back to the assembly but my sister was getting baptised so i told her i would go.
i would still like to keep on decent terms with my family who is still in.
otherwise, i would have said no.. there were only a five people that got baptised (four kids and one elderly person).

Flipper: Thanks for the encouragement. If you call please don't call past 3PM your time we go to bed at 7PM our time or 4PM yours. We get up at 3AM each morning M-F and work until 2 PM each day. But we do have the weekends off. Thank god for employee's. Hope to be talking to you soon.
Think About It: Thank you for your thoughts. It's been a great ride this last year.
cult classic: Glad to bring some sun shine into your life. This is a big thing with the misses and I we try to bring joy into the people we meet now instead of gloom and doom.
kitten Whiskers: All ready to transplant my seedling into bigger pots. Can't wait until it's warm enough to put out into the garden. Maybe next fall the beard will come back when the weather cools off.
Emptyinside: Yes our worker will never get over this one they are such a close family. Our worker is in her 80's such a sweet lady, good hearted and kind. I know the family was looking to lose her or her husband soon because of their age but instead they loss their 32 year old grandson. Life is really to short.
jgnat: What a beautiful place you live. Our mountians are not that high or steep. Ours are rolling mountians you would called them hills full of trees, very wet. The highest point here is about 1800 ft. But we live so far north with lots of snow I am glad they are not that steep. You are so lucky to live where you do.
AnneB: I am not saying we are catching the world on fire but the business is starting to move in the right direction. Takes alot of hard work and many hit and misses.
Phizzy: You made my wife almost fall off her chair by your funny comment. I been called a as-ho-- before but not quite like that. LOL
Lozhasleft: Thank you for your wishes and concern.
clarity: We do like the feeling of not rushing off to a night meeting but of course we are in bed by 7PM. The only rushing we do now is rushing off to work at 3 AM. It was hard at first but now we are pretty much use to it. If there is anything bad about our job it's the countless times we almost hit a deer in the road these past 5 months. Who needs a hunting license when you got a 2000lb car. Just kidding.
Thank you all for your comments and encouragement. Totally ADD

To Attend or Not Attend JW Relative Funeral - Experiences You've Had ?
by flipper ini was moved to put this thread out after talking to a board member here who was treated very disrespectfully from her jw family after her own husband died.
my question isn't trying to pigeonhole anybody or i'm not saying there's a right or wrong answer - the question is designed to just openly discuss the negatives and positives of going to a jw funeral or not, and the implications or ramifications for doing so or not.. i believe it's definitely a personal decision based on different circumstances for each individual.
for example : let's say a person is an inactive jw and they were sexually abused or treated in other inhumane ways by still active jw relatives .

Hi Flipper. This is a very hard subject for me. My mother is still alive and lives 1000 miles away from us. She was the reason we moved up north. The house she lives in was a gift from my wife and I. My father and mother never made any plans for retirement because they believed they would never grow old and die. After dad died her thinking got worse. She has always been a very mean and volient person all my life. But as she got older even more so. When dad was alive he could control her to a degree. But afterward she went on a mean streak that was unbelievable. And on top of all this the congregation we was in enable her in her hate. Most of it was focus on my wife. Telling people in the congregation she was going to her bank and stealing her money and having orgies in her living room. In the last 6 months we lived next to her she physcially attacked my wife and second time if it was not for the head rest in the front sit of the car she would have broken my wife's neck when she grap her hair and started pulling on it with all her body weight. When I confronted her before the elders on it she lied and said it did not happen. Also she kept accusing me of stealing dads 12 gauage gun. The one she gave to my son in front of 10 people after dad died. I later found out by her she wanted that gun to shot my wife. The thing to this day that makes me so mad is how the elders and people in the congregation believed her over me. Which at that time I was the PO of the congregation. I begged for help from them all they would tell me I had to deal with it alone it was none of their business yet at the same time many were taking her side. Though all my life I have seen her divide congregation and she was doing it again. Because my brother said he would take care of her and those in the congregation enabled her we felt it was time for us to leave. Which we did. My brother who at first believed her now sees that I was the one telling the truth. To this day it stills make me sick.
Now you know the rest of the story. I would say no I would not go to her funeral. To many bad memories. I might listen on the phone. It was this experience that really open the door and my eyes on how bad this cult is. Totally ADD

Hello everyone. Sorry I have not check in the last 3 months my computer was broke. And my wife and I have been very busy with the new business. It has been 1 year today we landed in our new home here in wilds of PA. Our 22 year old cat is now 23 years old and somedays it acts like it's going to out live us. Many things have happen to us in the last year. Meeting new friends, not talking to any JW's, not going to any meetings (we didn't even know when the memorial was this year. To busy with work.) Slowly getting out of the cults way of thinking. Opening our minds to new things and ideas. Growing a beard then shaving if off because my wife did not like kissing me. (It was grey anyway and it made me look 10 years older) I still have not cut my hair in the last year. I going to see what I look like with long hair. Still have not had one JW knock on our door or any calls from local elders wanting to know whats going on. Our so called friends from were we came from called once in the last year. Know what they say "out of sight out of mind".
With spring coming we see our business growing. And for the first time in my life I will be able to work on my vegetable garden without worrying about goind out in field service and meetings. My wife and I may even be able to go garage selling. It's funny when I frist came on this site I had to be on it many times a day. It was like a life line. Now not being on it for many months and only hearing what my wife had to say about it I find myself not needing it so much. Like I am standing on my own two feet now. Most of our new friends know we are Ex. JW's. Both Reopened Mind and I make sure they know it is a cult and how hard it is to get out of it and the consequences we may face in the future. This is now to say I need my fix once in a while. It just I don't need it as much. Starting a new year up here I look forward to the new challenges and new things that will come our way.
I know my world is not perfect but I am no longer controlled by the thinking of the cult. Which now allows my authentic personality to come out. Which I have learned is not so bad. I think I am more loving and forgiving than before. More tolerant of people and empathetic to their needs. Also I have learned there are some people you just stay away from. To many problems. My hope is for all of you that is still sitting on the fence not knowing what to do. Think hard about what it will take for you to get out of this cult. Life is to short. And yes this is all the life we have. So make the most of it. You never know what the future has in store for you. I say this because a 32 year old grandson of a person who works for us two week ago got a new job after being unemployed for many months. They had him go the local hosptial for blood work. The needle they used was infected with staph. In two days he went septic and died. Leaving behind a 10 month old son. This hit us very hard. Showing now is the time to do the most you can with the life you have. Again I thank all of you for all the support you have given my wife and I over the years. Until next time. Totally ADD P.S. For those who wonder why I did not use my wife's computer. I am not allowed to touch it. LOL

My 8 year old gets it
by discreetslave inmy 8 year old has recently discovered star trek and loves it.
the other night we watched an episode "return of the archons".
whenever someone spoke differently or questioned, it was recognized that they were not one of them or "of the body".

I always loved that episode of the old star trek. It has only been a few years now that I "get it" when I think of this old start trek show. And in many many ways that is exactly the way it is in the borg. How a science fiction show of the 60's has caused me to think and wake up so many years later. No wonder my parents did now like me watching it as a kid. Totally ADD P.S. Hooray for your 8 year old.

You might be a JW's if you have a us against them mentality and become very paranoid that everyone who is not a JW's is out to get you.
You grow up not knowing any of your relatives or family line becauce they are not JW's.
You might be a JW's if you felt guilty for watching Babylon 5 because it had the word Babylon in it.
You might be a JW's if you are proud of your children for be objects of ridicule at school because they are so diffrent.
You might be a JW's child if spring vacation means sitting for 3 days at a CA.
I have more but I have to go. Totally ADD

The New Vocabulary of a Free Mind
by breakfast of champions ini have always classified myself as someone who was fairly well read, with a pretty decent vocabulary.
but having been raised in the orwellian "loaded language" of "truthspeak", i found over the past 18 or so months that there is a whole vocabulary out there that i was never exposed to, thanks in part to the wts exquisite information control techniques.
here's a sample of some of the words i had never even heard of before my "awakening":.

xtreme punishment
by rebel8 inquote from another thread i didn't want to derail:.
i too like blondie was shunned as an elders wife for whatever reason i have as yet to understand, it happened even when i was pioneering.
you never know what law you might break to tick someone off in that religion and how long you will be shunned.

That's what happens when Wesley thinks with his little head instead of his big head. Death to all who walks on the flowers. LOL I am just as sick when it comes to Star Trek shows. Being a JW all those years Star Trek was the only escape I had from the Brog. Shunning is sick. Totally ADD

Gave 5 JW's Something to Think About at a Starbucks Today
by flipper ini was having coffee at a starbucks located in a supermarket chain in one of the towns i work in my business .
while sitting there doing paperwork , what looked like 3 elders on their field service break sat at a table no more than 4 feet from me .
after eavesdropping it was obvious they were elders as they were talking about the c.o.

What a great group the JW's have placed themselves with when it comes to shunning. Here in the wilds of PA we hear stories of the Amish being shunned. It always reminds me of the Brog and their loving way of dealing with free thinkers. Good job flipper. Like my wife I wish I could of been a fly on the wall to listen to their reaction to what you said. Keep up the good work. I feel some day soon my wife and I will be facing the same problem. Knowlege is a very powerful weapon. Thanks for the insight. Totally ADD
