From the start with Russell - his followers were called "russellites"...and they saw him as the faithful and discreet slave from the bible. The presidents that followed him attempted to hide this fact by replacing the visible leader by a figurative slave class and more recently a governing body appointed by Christ. So, no JWs do not follow a man...they follow 9 men...who have power over their lives.

When did the religion become a cult?
by Hermano inam i wrong in believing it was rutherford who took the religion from strange to cult?
under russell they had some strange beliefs but strange beliefs don't make a cult.
wasn't it rutherford who established and reinforced the hierarchichal structure and demanded absolute loyalty?.

The local KHall built in 1987 and remodeled a few years ago has only windows in the front where there was a small meeting room (usually known as the back room, spanking room, elders's room...). Lately I found out that they did away with the library and they tore down the wall separating it from the meeting room to create a larger space for a foreign language group meeting...At least they now can look out and watch the cars go by when the meeting gets boring.
The KHall in surrounding areas have no windows either...

Can we Die After the Thousand Years and Final Test?
by God_Delusion inhowdy guys and gals,.
i am currently researching some material on what watchtower doctrine says with regards to punishments jehovah candish out to us after the thousand year reign and the final test.. my mother (a brilliant woman) always told me that if a human purposefully went against jehovah after the thousand years and the final test, jehovah would instantly put them to death.
is this true?

The only free will one would "enjoy" would be to do exactly as you are told...failure to do so will mean instant extinction! What a great prospect for those who sacrificed their life to attain the "real life".

Statement "from heaven"
by leaving_quietly inthere was a post on here about a month ago about the dc speaker saying the statement was made that 'we are in the last day of the last days' and how we could count on it because it was in the outline and how the gb feels strongly about it.
well, apparently this is confirmed, because our speaker today was samuel herd, one of the gb members, and he prefaced it with: 'we got this statement from heaven'.
then he said something about not imagining coming up with the statement himeself.

DofC,
One of the statement I hate the most is when JWs say Adam's rebellion wasn't that long ago since in Jehovah's eyes 6,000 years is only 6 days...the problem is that I live in men's years, 70-80 years only...so soon for me must be tomorrow! Unfortunately the only way JWs can justify 140 years of "soon" is by converting it to Jehovah's scale...

Another case where the pedophile only lost his service privileges...
by NVR2L8 infor those who read french here is the link:.
http://www.courrier-picard.fr/courrier/actualites/info-locale/saint-quentin-chauny/le-tonton-ideal-s-estime-inexcusable .
parents of a young girl trusted that their daughter would be safe at her uncle's home since they were jehovah's witnesses and are known for their high moral standards...the uncle had intercourse 380 times with his 10 year old niece between 2000 and 2002. the girl kept silent for 10 years because she didn't want to cause problems within her family.

I feel no resentment toward individual JWs...but I can't drive past a Kingdom Hall without feeling the urge to give a one finger salute. I drove by the local arena on Friday at lunch time and saw a crowd o JWs and I thought to myself that I could never put up with spending 3 valuable days sitting inside to listen to the same bullshit I heard the year before. I hate everything JWs represent but I have no hate for the individuals who are just victims of a cult as I was. I stay away from them because I don't want to give them false hope that soon I would return. I hope that the WTS gets what is coming to them...they announce judgements for the false religion but they are now as guilty and deserving of the same fate.

How Long Should A Pedophile Be Shunned By The Church?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inat what point do we know a pedophile has repented of his sin?
how long should we shun a child sex offender, should the watchtower have thrown out the sex offenders the congregation for five, ten, twenty years?
how should a congregation deal with a sex offender who thinks he has grappled and beaten his urges?.

Regardless if the pedophile is repentant or not, abuse of children is a crime that must be reported to the authorities. Suspicion of abuse must be investigated by the proper authorities and not by a janitor and a window cleaner...Once the situation is public knowledge, the parents can take steps to protect their children against this individual.

The level of control is plain to see when on the buletin board of all congregations there is posted a 4-page pamphlet illustrating how one should dress to visit Bethels... Imagine having to dress in one's best suit to take of tour of warehouses, workshops and printeries...More lately there was an illustration on how not to dress when checking in at a Hotel at the district convention! In the Canadian Bethel all workers regardless of where they work have to go change in their meeting clothes to go have lunch, then back into their work clothes...then back into their meeting clothes for dinner...Only in a cult!
I have been out for 2 years and last November I grew a HUGE mustache for MOvember...my brother who is an elder came to visit me was bothered by it...and when I was in I would have never dared grow facial hair in fear of stumbling my brothers...JWs need to lighten up a bit...it's only a mustache....
