Friday, December 24
Happy are the peaceable, since they will be called "sons of God."-Matt. 5:9.
If we are the kind of people whom Jesus had in mind, we are peaceable and ‘do not render injury for injury to anyone.' Instead, we ‘always pursue what is good toward others.' (1 Thess. 5:15) The Greek term rendered "peaceable" at Matthew 5:9 literally means "peacemakers." To be included among the peaceable, we must actively promote peace. Peacemakers do not do anything that ‘separates those familiar with one another.' (Prov. 16:28) As the peaceable, we take positive steps to "pursue peace with all people." (Heb. 12:14) If we are "living by spirit," peaceableness will be one of our qualities that is readily seen by others. We will not be "stirring up competition with one another" or "provoking . . . each other." (Gal. 5:22-26; New International Version) Instead, we endeavor to be "peaceable with all men."-Rom. 12:18. w09 2/15 1:18, 19, 21 -

Who Was Your Favorite Speaker?
by minimus inno brag, just fact---i was the most requested speaker in my hall(s), i was often requested to give talks in kh's all over the place, not just in my area.. i personally enjoyed speakers who taught you something, not merely recited something.
we had a district overseer, paul illingsworth, i loved his style.
he delved into bible words of the original greek and hebrew.

I musta bin pretty good . . . One time when I travelled about four hours with the wife and two kids staying in a camp ground for the night previous I was asked when arriving at the hall if I would be terribly put off if a brother that had drifted in unexpectedly from Vancouver gave the talk. He was an old friend of the congregation. With the greatest humility I said that would be just fine. It was one of the times I was actually asked out for a meal though. Another time travelling about three hours in the opposite direction in early winter road conditions slowed the trip enough to make me late arriving. Assuming that I was coming and just late they had the tower first so that they could have the talk last. Do others remember that usually if invited out for a meal it would end up being the obviously poorer ones in the congregation. Then you could feel uncomfortable since they seemed to have little themselves. I will have to admit though that you always felt the hospitality when invited.

Spoof the Watchtower Contest?
by Ding inwe have seen time and again how the gb comes up with a strange doctrine (such as not celebrating birthdays) by citing something in the bible (the beheading of john the baptist) and then claiming that the "connection" makes their teaching "biblical.".
this got me thinking about how easy and fun it might be to create any "bible teaching" by this type of specious reasoning.. i thought it might be fun to have a jwn contest to see who can come up with the most watchtower-sounding rationale for a screwy doctrine of their own creation.. in another thread, i wrote a short satire on how the gb could come up with a "biblical reason" for preventing jws from going bowling by noting that 10 is an important bible number and then saying that knocking down 10 pins symbolizes breaking each of the ten commandments.. if i had wanted to expand that nonsense into a watchtower-style article, i would have gone on to explain the importance of the ten commandments and then spend several paragraphs denouncing all the evils of lawlessness, culminating with paul's warning about the "man of lawlessness" in 2 thessalonians 2:3. at the end of this exercise, i would have readers worked into a frenzy about the evils of bowling.. does anyone doubt that if the wts actually did this, jws would immediately stop bowling and start looking down on worldlies who do it?.
can't you just imagine a watchtower study where jws dutifully answer questions explaining why bowling is so displeasing to god?.

Yes agonus - my first thought was why waste time on that when We could just list off what they have already done themselves.

Although this doesn't quite fit the thread it is a spoof. Taken from the March awake that is now posted.
RUSTAM, who lives in Russia, leads a busy life. In the past, he had some unhealthful habits but came to realize that he was paying a price for them. He stopped smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Still, long days in front of his computer left him feeling lethargic. Although Rustam started work at eight o'clock in the morning, he rarely felt fully awake until ten, and he was often sick. So he made an adjustment to his routine. He became one of Jehovah's Witnesses and quickly qualified for and took advantage of the opportunity to Pioneer (preach full time to his Russian buddies) The result? He was thrown into prison and reports that "In the last seven years, I haven't taken more than two sick days a year," and "I feel great-awake and alert-and I enjoy life!"

Begging for money at Bethel
by life is to short inthe thread about the circuit assembly accounts and where the money goes reminded me of one time when we were at bethel.. we were at bethel between 1991 to 1994, there had been some problem in another country and at morning worship they asked all of us bethelites to put in at least one dollar a person to send to the brothers in this problem country.. at the time my husband and i just did not have it.
we only got $90 a person so $180 a couple.
ok i know we had a free place to live but we still had to pay for car gas to the hall our car insurance, air conditioning, shampoo, clothes, etc.
