Speaking out loud != typing on the internet. Perhaps part of the reason behind the composition of dj's posts is because he's literally speaking to you. When you're typing on the internet, I believe you're thought processes are different than if you were speaking directly to another person face to face.

My Study Conductor Jumped Ship - Any Possible Explanations?
by InterestedOne inmy study conductor has informed me that he & his wife are switching to a foreign language congregation that is far away from the territory they live in (it will involve a lot of driving back & forth).
because he is switching congregations, he said he will not have the energy to devote to my study and recommended another brother who could take over, and i have met him.
however, this change happened simultaneously with a decision i have made.

kurtbethel: to say their teaching methods are ineffective is a bit disingenious, just because they didn't work for you. Obviously, the same teaching methods work well for thousands of other people! The problem must be you *snicker* ;)

July 15th WT out - Coming out Swinging at Apostates Hard
by LostGeneration inthis is one of the most aggressive watchtowers i think i have ever read.. four study articles on not "following the crowd" not following unrealities(page 13) not following false teachers, meaning apostates of course(p 15).
avoiding false teachers means "refusing to read their literature, watch tv programs that feature them, examine their web sites, or add comments to their blogs.
(para 7, pg 16).

@thetrueone : "In this new age of information it's not surprising to see the WTS crank up the mind control. Losing members in this organization hurts not only their bottom line $ but also their entire power structure of the organization itself. .....and yes they are running scarred of the inter-net"
As has been though of in other places by much smarter people, I would argue the 2+ million people who don't contribute much to the bottom line financially are actually a drain on the whole operation (2 congregations where maybe 1 would do, books/mags etc) and should be shown the door. I think the 80/20 rule has a specific application here. That rule states (in this application) that 80% of your profits (or contributions in this case) comes from 20% of your sales force. It's not quite Christ-like, but hey, whoever let that stand in the way of the bottom line!..

good pick.. they typically seem to have a decent, respectable chance of winning, each and every year.. a'la the Patriots..

I suspect the Oilers will be a serious Cup contender in about 3 years - a'la Pittsburgh. Granted, last and this years' draft pool is nowhere near as deep as when Malkin/Crosby was drafted, but their team is seriously looking pretty dangerous!

Wow, the first 13 minutes of Van and Chi has had more excitement than Rangers and Washington's entire game..

Proclaimers book and Memorial question
by Lunatic Faith ini got a text this morning from my 17 year old nephew.
he told his parents last night that he didn't want to go to any more meetings and he was not attending the memorial because he doesn't believe the way jdubs believe.
i'm not sure how his parents have responded.

PSac : Agreed - I don't know how they reconcile John 6:48-58 with their teachings; not that i blame them - there is no way to reconcile LOL.

The annual "JW memorial teachings vs actual Bible quotes"
by undercover in24 true, the son of man is going away, just as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man through whom the son of man is betrayed!
26 as they continued eating, jesus took a loaf and, after saying a blessing, he broke it and, giving it to the disciples, he said: take, eat.
19 they started to be grieved and to say to him one by one: it is not i, is it?

The classic "Do this in remembrance of me," but then let us spend a full 45 minutes explaining why we should disobey Christ. Things that make you go "hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."

Memorial
by sspo ini live in a gated mobile home park in california where no one is allowed to solicit door to door and today.
i received a full page, handwritten invitation to the memorial, with the official tract printed by the watchtower.. it's a great way to get many hours of service just by staying in the comfort of your home but i'm wondering who's paying for postage, .
.44cents per household...that could get pretty expensive since just in our park alone there are close to 700 homes!!!.

If you could get your auxillary time in for $0.44 an hour (assuming you wrote one letter each hour - I know I could stretch it out that much), wouldn't you pay that? I sure would. Cheaper than gas at any rate..

Genesis 10 - How many can you count up who built the Tower of Babel from these names??
by hamsterbait ini am sitting looking at genesis 10.. this relates to the thread that the "tower of babel built by babies".. i reckon by counting the sons, and then counting at least one wife to carry the next generation of named sons we can arrive at a fairly accurate head count.. chapter 11 is also useful here as it gives the age of certain men when they had named sons.. for example seth was 100 when he fathered apaxad.
in the next 500 years he could not have fathered a total of 500 children, so we need a reasonable estimate.. some of the breed ing stock was 35 before producing a son (11:12).
bear in mind also that the shemite line had fertility issues so were not as profuse as other lines through ham or japheth.. i fail to get a total of much over 300 people and that is being generous.

Depends on the time-frame I suppose, which I don't think is mentioned in Genesis at all. If you had 500 years and replenishing supply of 50 men, I'm sure you could build a respectable tower..
And where are you "collecting" these bricks from? Somebody's gotta make 'em..
