Help me make sence of William Lane Craigs nonsense
by bohm intoday i tried to read a transcript of a debate william lane craig had a few years back.
this particular argument which i have heard him give many times stumbled me for all the wrong reasons.
the argument is as this: (http://www.leaderu.com/offices/billcraig/docs/craig-smith_harvard02.html).

I checked him out as well. A true beliver. A very smart true believer but I'm not buying it.
- Step 1: if morality is dependent upon God, then slaughtering children would be moral if God commanded it. Dr. Craig accepts this premise; he says so in an article on the Old Testament slaughter of the Canaanites on his website.
- Step 2: No one could make slaughtering children moral just by commanding it. This is just as obvious as the things Craig has said about rape and torture being wrong.
- Therefore, morality is not dependent upon God.”

How Many People Are Still Happy That They Married Their Mate?
by minimus ini know of someone that has made no bones about being somewhat unhappily married.
they got married because they "fooled around" and felt it was the "right thing to do".. i wonder how many people are unhappily married?
?.

I am still happily married (she has a gun on me as I type).
Actually we are very happy together. We were married in 1963 when she was 17 and I was 19 (I was pioneering where the need was great, apparently the need was greater for husbands). In later years someone once asked her what did you guys do after you were married and she said "we finished raising one another".
Normally getting married at that earlier age is a disaster but some how it worked for us. We left the 'truth' about 4 1/2 years later....walked out together (the whole story posted here if anyone is interested).
I guess the things that worked for us might be of some interest:
1. Emotionally and mentally we continued to grow.
2. Unconditional love and respect.......always. If either of us has a problem we are one another's first responder.
3. Not letting issues fester.
4. We Communicate with one another. We start every day with coffee in bed and talk about what we are going to do that day etc. We meet back up at 6PM and while I sip a martini and she a cup of tea we discuss how the day turned out, who we saw what we did, most importantly what we each think about the subject at hand. 5. We have each developed a professional reputation in our respective fields (we are both artists) At different times one or the other ascended to more recognicsion and income. We never felt nor expressed resentment or jealosy. Right now she is ascending once again and may bust it out of the ballpark, I am happy to spend my time helping her in whatever way I can to achieve her goal.
6. Our household chores are a division of labor, we each do those things we enjoy or can tolerate best. She's a great cook in turn I have profected Zen and the art of dishwashing, vacuming etc.
So yes, still happy, still challenged after all these years.

I need a show of hands: who believes the Bible and to what extent?
by Terry ini'll start off.. i don't believe anything is divine about bible writings.
i believe there may be some marginal history although not much.
i think alot of folk tales and regional myths are contained in the old testament.

Giordano
Not inspired, written by men........ many of whom had political agendas. The Jesus story didn't have historical meaning for the Jews but it really caught on when the oral accounts reached the Greek speaking world. Their Gods were long gone, myths that no longer gave comfort or generated fear. The Jesus story took hold as a simple narritive and inflamed the imagination. The Romans also got a kick out of it. A great story is always appealing.
The neat thing about it was that the meanings were so vague. Heck we're still trying to figure out what most of it means 2000 years later. Perfect ..........everyone gets to make of it what they want.
Anyway It's not that difficult to create a religion based on the bible or not based on the bible, ask Joseph Smith, Charles Taze Russell, Mary Baker Eddy and that idiot L. Ron Hubbard.

Could use a little input on freedom of speech with JW relatives.
by nicolaou inhow do you deal with jw relatives who say; "can i just ask you one thing?".
seems obvious that you'd willingly answer their question right?
i mean, it's good that they're asking questions, maybe they're waking up and it might start them on their journey out of the wt.. but.. i've got one real hardcore jw sibling.

Looking back from a perspective of some four decades: The determining factor about me in my families eyes was that I had rejected the 'truth'. They weren't interested in my reasoning........ just theirs. There was nothing I could do about that, nothing I could accomplish that would have allowed us to have a 'normal family relationship'. It was greatly aggravating for me and my wife.......... and them. In retrospect it would have been a kindness if we had shunned them or at least limited out visits.

10 Predictions of 2011
by free2beme inif everyone else can do these, get 90% wrong, and still be given the chance to do it again the next year ... like their an expert!
well then, i am going to, as well.. 1. isreal will have a full invastion happen, from two countries at once, in 2011. this will trigger a nato response and a local nuclear attack on a military target.. 2. within three months of marriage, prince william will annouce that his new wife is expecting.. 3. the us economy will show a bounce back, until gas prices sky rocket in the summer and send it skidding down again at a faster rate then before.
people will blame what ever party they do not vote for, ... and george w bush.. 4. massive flooding will happen in the united states, northwest region, as the massive snow falls and cold winters are met with faster then expected higher temps in the spring.. 5. a massive hurricane will hit the east coast, and be followed with one of equal power within only two days.
