Saltheart-
Thanks! If you can find a way to share it afterwards I'd love to see it but don't do anything that could get you in trouble.
the letter has appeared at last - just for uk.
it is a money grab for the new bethel which has been approved.
there is a video to be shown - just watched it - brief summary of uk bethels, why current one is too small, why we need money to build a new one.

Saltheart-I'd be very interested in seeing that video if a link becomes available.

AndDon'tCallMeShirley-
While the wts is one of the largest printing companies in the world based on actual production, they do not make it into the Printing Impressions 500 largest printing companies ranking which is based on revenues.
I imagine donations have dropped off sharply since the figure for 2000 was listed in that NY Newsday article in 2001.

nonjwspouse- very interesting articles-thanks for the link!
I remember when the new printery was planned for 85 Jay st. First it was to be a 380,000 sq ft bldg, but then the society purchased the entire block allowing for 1 million sq ft to be used for the new printery and the wts trucks.
Suddenly, the plans to build it were dropped.
Years later came the plans for the large residential complex there, but it mysteriously got dropped too! Since Jehovah is always directing the gb, I guess he just could not make up his mind what to do with the property so he told them to use it as a parking lot! LOL!
i went to the meeting this morning and we had some guy from overseas bethel give the public talk.
6 countries subsidize the rest.
he said in some countries all the donations that they get from contributions don't even pay the electricity bill for the branch buildings so money has to come in from these 6 richer countries.
I know the branches in Britain & Germany are supplying a lot of funds to other branches. No doubt the US is.
It is interesting that both last year and this year the book released at the convention was printed in Germany instead of at Wallkill. I wonder what the story is on that and if it is a permanent arrangement.
The magazines, km and tracts for the US are printed in Canada. How much literature is Wallkill still printing? I remember when they produced over 500 million publications around 6 years ago. Now it seems most of the other printing branches produce a lot more than the US branch does.
Does anyone have any info on this and if printing at Wallkill is being downsized?
They mentioned making "adjustments" to the Wallkill printery. I wonder what these "adjustments" are?
has anyone else noticed the below?.
the mountain on the front cover of 'god kingdom rules' segues beautifully into the mountain on the front cover of 'crisis of conscience' (with a bit of cropping):.
coincidence?.
Steve 2-
The "Babylon The Great Has Fallen! God's Kingdom Rules!" book was over 700 pages!
I remember all those older , thick HC books. Mostly text, few illustrations. Back then I also devoured them! But now my eyesight is so poor I could not read them.
I especially liked the 192-page burst-bound pocket sized HC books.
The society was proud of how durable its books were.
Yes, those days are over.
i had a phone call with one of the elders who advised i attend the assembly at the weekend.
i have plans (and a life) but i said i'd go there on the weekend as i can't take short notice time from my studie and work.
does anyone have a link to the assembly or transcript that i could look through?.

when you were a witness, what did you do with your old watchtower (public/ study versions) and awake magazines?
i know for some throwing away a magazine is comparable to burning a quran.
i never threw them out!
SafeAtHome- We were taught that what was in the TRUTH book was, the truth.
How easily they just change things and discard that book like it is nothing. They think there is nothing wrong in telling us we can no longer use that book. Isn't it the truth? Was I taught lies? Then comes the insane old truth, new truth crap.
Amazing isn't it? I was so angry when that elder told me we can't use the Truth book anymore.
And yes, if you did not accept what was in the Truth book back then you were an apostate.
Now, if you ACCEPT what is in it you are an apostate!
love believes all things.
what did paul mean??
he meant that if we love jehovah, we believe what we read in the wt magazine.

if the gb did say the moon was made of cheese, my brother WOULD believe it.

When I was a witness I would leave older issues in the doors of not at homes, especially when we did the few rural areas which were not worked as much. Yes, some ended up in a laundromat, and in hospital lobbies.
I decreased my order when I was not going out in fs as much anymore.
I kept all the issues while I was a witness, but when I discovered the tatt I threw away some older ones. But I wish I had held on to those issues, they were from 1976 and 1977 and are kind of nostalgic to me.
Otherwise, I still have them all down the basement, as well as all of the books. Older damaged books I threw away but have better copies.
I gave away a few older books which I came to regret : Paradise Lost To Paradise Regained, Qualified to Be Mnisters, Your Lamp is a Light to my Foot and the NWT that was released at the 1958 IC which was cover stamped.
When this house is sold I'll have nowhere to go so I have no idea where the literature will end up. I suppose loose copies will be thrown out and I don;t know if I should offer my books to the cong seeing that I know they are a controlling cult. I wish I could get them to a store that buys older books.
Phizzy- that is such a good point you brought out- return to what? Yes, the jw religion now is totally different than it was when I started. Years ago when I was still attending meetings I was mentioning to an elder how much I enjoyed the Truth book. He mentioned of course that it is "old light". I suggested I would study it with someone, since that is the book the witnesses used in my BS. He told me I cannot do that! I told him I have several new copies. The elder said we don't use that book any more for a reason, we have "new light", So I asked him if I was taught lies when they studied with me in the Truth book? This went into a circle about old & new truths. He said we are not allowed to use the Truth book anymore.I was disgusted.
Just about everything in the jw religion has changed a great deal since 1976, it is NOT the same religion.
SafeatHome- good points too! return to the "truth" I was taught, or the ever changing new "truth" taught today which will be gone and replaced soon with another "truth" soon?
