Ok... so Mom did the robotic JW thing and people in my home country know about me...

so.... i went out all day today... just wanted to get away from the sh!tstorm that was created yesterday.

anyways... i come home like an hour ago, and my dad told me that mom called my aunties in central america and told them stuff about me, and also she told the elders of her hall... the elders want to meet with me, but i think that it will be at my house.

Ran into JW's manning a table/booth at the beach.

came across 2 of these 'booths' in 2 days.

one at the int'l airport we landed at (hubby asked directions from them, they were knowledgable about the airport and very nice) and the other at a pier on the beach...hubby had to race over and say hi to them and i was standing there.

the 'brother' was an arrogant boob.

while i appreciate the thought, please do not send us gifts.. our kids are not missing out on anything other than things we try to protect them from.. at this time, based on prior encounters and their affect on me emotionally, i think it would be best if we didn't communicate.. i hope you can understand my decision and the fact that it is not meant to offend anyone.. .

i sent her a loving and forgiving message, and know she has no intention of answering me.

Hi Faithful Witness, DITTO what other posters wrote about just write that you love her or let her go for a few months. IMHO an email with lots of pictures of you and your family having fun and writing wishing you were there would probably have more impact on her. Please remember that she is probably being heavily influenced by her husband.

If your mother still has doubts, help her more than your sister to critically think for herself because it might have a more significant impact.

If you still want to confront your sister, I would recommend writing I love you, she seems more judgemental than when you were growing up, and ask how would she feel if you would stop talking with her for giving you presents just because it is a sunny day. Where in the Bible did Jesus Christ say to shun or not associate with people just because they were tax collectors or Samaritans?

IMHO I think all JWN members should plan on meeting across the street from the WTBTS HQ in Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY to celebrate 100+ years of WTBTS failed predictions starting from 1878. Lets throw a party, because the WTBTS sure won't!!

I could do with some help please?

so the elder i studied with called round last wednesday.

i didn't tell him i'd lost my faith, i just said there are a number of reasons i wouldn't be able to return to either my studies or the meetings.

he asked me whar 2 or 3 of my reasons are so we could discuss them.. my reply: 1 i think all christians should partake of the bread and wine.

Hi chrisuk, Ask simple questions that make the elder provide the answers. For reason #1, ask the elder where in the Bible did Jesus Christ say that only the annointed could partake in the bread and wine? For reasons #2 & #3, find out what the elder believes and then ask him simple questions to prove his position using the Bible.

Personally I would learn how to overcome the common WTBTS's thought stopping platitudes as well as asking questions of your own. When in doubt a JW will always use a thought-stopping platitude to help them rationalize why they blindly follow the GB and WTBTS. I personally would ask the elder how the WTBTS is following God's Greatest Commandments in MT 22:34-40 and avoiding committing the only unforgivable sin in MT 12:22-37. The latest WTBTS propaganda almost makes God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit irrelevant as long as you blindly follow the GB. And, how can shunning every be justified through the teachings and example of Jesus Christ?

WT Mantras / Thought Stoppers

i've been thinking about how the gb controls jws through the use of short phrases or scripture quotes (often partial quotes ripped out of context).. think of the sound-bite responses you know jws are going to give you in response to points you try to make to them.. ones that come to my mind immediately are:.

-- "the light gets brighter and brighter.".

-- "who, then, is the faithful and discreet slave?".

Identifying thought stoppers is good, and identifying simple questions to ask back is better.

Thought Stopper -- "Where else can we go?

Counter question - "Don't you mean to whom shall we go? Have you read John 6:60-70? All you have to do is follow Jesus Christ's teachings and examples instead of the GB and the Watchtower."

Anyone else want to play the counter question game to thought stoppers?

The real reason behind the Revised New World Tranlation

usually i'm spending most of the meeting reading through the bible .so my time spend there is not entirely lost .i used to enjoy how in the old nwt you could look up a verse and then following the side references i could get a pretty good picture on that verse.usually the explanation would be contrary to the official jw doctrine.last sunday meeting i opened the revised nwt to do exactly the same thing ,and then it hit me !

the revised nwt has removed more that half of the references used in the previous version.what more the references they left only lead you to verses that support jw doctrine.this a watered down version of the previous edition.what do you think ?could it be that this is part of their continous plan to dumb down all remaining jws?.

The WTBTS is a dangerous cult!! The "I" in BITE control stands for information control, so it makes perfect sense that the WTBTS will only print references in the new NWT to support the WTBTS's doctrines as well as alter the translations to support their doctrines and/or keep the WTBTS out of litigation.

Welcome Jessc8877 , Move on with your life and be grateful that you are no longer dating a JW and an A$$hole.

Your exBF sounds like he would lie, lie, lie if you did confront him in front of the elders or his wife. Also, depending on his status in the congregation the elders might try to protect him. Elders serve the WTBTS so it is alright to hide a JW's transgressions if a JW is willing to blindly serve the WTBTS and victimize other JWs.

By the way have you watched the following video? It is a good description of life as a JW and it shows how an adulterous father is willing to shun his daughter so that he can be an elder again.

Welcome ThunderStruck52 , I'm sorry that the WTBTS made your life more difficult.

Look on the positive side! You did break free of the WTBTS's BITE control fairly young and you can go to college if you want. It just will be more difficult now. Have you read any threads of former JWs going to college in their thirties and forties for inspiration?
