I would go if it was someone I formerly cared about & who hadn't actively shunned me!! I went a couple of years ago for a friend who died in her late 30s. It was so tragic & I needed to go to pay my respects. It was in a funeral home but was given by the dubs. To go to an actual kh it would have to be someone pretty special!!

Nathan, that is a great article and very true! I just wanted to criticise the point: This is not about political correctness. I am a huge political correctness proponent, & that is because language can be a horrific tool, as the author points out. Let's stop this pc bashing!

I'm telling lies from the stage
by DannyBloem ini recently gave a public talk, and i really felt bad about it.. it was the public talk about the great flood of noahs days.
the is so much evidence that this great deluge never happened, but that is something you can't tell the audience from the stage.
(i will tell about that evidence if people are interested, but it is a bit off-topic now).

I do not think that they are very harmful. In the time I did see people change for the better.
I'm sorry, but the reason you are posting here is to find out how you can exit this high-control group without losing your family and friends. That sounds harmful to me. It makes me quite angry to hear of people who have 'positions of responsibility' who continue to give public talks etc - they are perpetuating the lie. I was brought up as a Witness & I believed it wholeheartedly. If I found out that any of the elders etc in my congregation were knowingly lying to me, I would be MAD. If you are disillusioned, LEAVE.
Leaving is hard, but that is an issue that all here on the site have experience with. I realise that for some it is hard, and fading might be the best option. But please don't keep up the pretence - for the sake of any intelligent, caring children who might be completely hoodwinked by your personality/charisma into believing the whole thing!!!

The status of women in early Christianity

this is news to no one.

Leo, I just hopped on the net while taking a break from writing an essay on the rise of monotheism & status of women - now I think you should write my essay for me! I'll just take myself off to the tv, where hopefully there is no discussion on pseudo-Pauline scripture!

Birthday Ideas
by Aude_Sapere indoes anyone have any ideas for a birthday gift/surprise/whatever for a 24 year old?
my brother turns 24 tomorrow and has never had a family member do anything for his birthday.
i would like to do something but really have no idea what to do.

Maybe do a silly b'day - with a cake, candles, party hats just for you two! & a gift. I'm sure he'll love it! I've had four birthdays & one of my favourite things is my mother-in-law singing 'happy birthday' in a silly voice to me! Makes up for all those b'days we missed as kids ...

Documenting the 2-witness rule applies to child abuse
by Robert_V_Frazier inover at carm, corvus the jw defender from australia is loudly proclaiming that the two-witness rule is never applied when an allegation of child abuse is made.
i pointed out in some detail that the nov. 1, 1995 watchtower article "comfort for those with a 'stricken spirit'", in the section "what can elders do?
" most definitely does teach that:

Or perhaps the one accused will confess, and a reconciliation may be achieved. What a blessing that would be!
Do these people live in the real world?!!!
