Hi guys,
I hope this isn't too personal or likely to encroach on confidences (??) - my parents just watched the Sunday program & recognised the voice of 'Julie'. If it is who they think it is, we were in her congregation at the time & later knew her quite well when she married & had kids. I guess we'd like to get in touch with her, if she is lurking on this site or if anyone could pass on our details to her. We had no idea, obviously, & just want to tell her how much we care.
Obviously we've lost touch over the years - we haven't seen her for about 8 years, & don't know where she is now.

Mankind came from one society which spread out?
by Sirona ini'm currently reading a book called "heaven's mirror" by graham hancock.. it theorises that the ancient egyptian pyramids, certain monuments in cambodia and mexican pyramids are built according to an ancient system which seems to have been mysteriously spread across the globe, sometime prior to 10,500 bc.. they base this theory on commonalities between the sites, most especially significant astrological correlations which are astounding.. here is a link to graham hancocks site with a description of the book http://www.grahamhancock.com/library/hm/default.htm.
what i found surprising is that he promotes many jw ideas.
firstly he comments upon how many of the cultures report a "global cateclysm" in their mythology.

The out of Africa theory is constantly being questioned though, yeah? I'm sure I heard something recently re Aus Aborigines. Although the Africa theory is pretty well researched - genetic information backs it up.

Sirona, if this guy is the one I'm thinking of (a medical doctor with absolutely no qualifications in history or archaeology, instead his specialty is tropical diseases) - he is a quack. Fair enough, if you enjoy that sort of thing, just be sure that it is all speculation!
Oh, that might be being a bit harsh - prehistory is fascinating, but the potential for quacks is limitless!

Young JWs-living a lie
by Jez infor the past year, i have been observing the jw kids that i know.

God, I wish I knew you guys when I was growing up! Tals, you sound like a great flatmate! All of my Witness flatmates were holier than thou - if someone didn't do the washing up, there was hell to pay! Well, my best ever flatmate had done the wild thang - drink, drugs, sex - but she was so little & funny, & didn't pretend to be anything she wasn't - she wasn't a real Witness like me!

would you let your child associate with Jehovahs Witnesses?
by Ellie in.
i'm the only one of my family who is not in 'the truth', and my family don't want anything to do with me.. however, today my mum asked me if she can take my 2 year old to visit the rest of the family, i'm not invited and wouldn't be welcome at any of their houses, so she would be taking my daughter alone.. i told her i would think about it.. i really don't think it would be practical because my daughter is not familiar with the family and i don't want her to be upset.. but the main reason |'m thinking of saying no is that i feel offended that i am not good enough for them to speak to.. am i being selfish if i say no?

I agree with the majority gut reaction - NO - but Flower has made some good points. I let my mum get away with reading from the Bible Stories book to my 1-2 year old for a few months (?), until my mum left the borg. I figured that I'm the parent, & I can always explain it to my daughter by rolling my eyes & saying 'yes, silly stories!' Fortunately she was young enough that it didn't matter, and then my parents left. On the other hand, I would be extremely concerned about letting a 2yo out of my sight with a bunch of people she doesn't really know - it's an age factor, not just an indoctrination factor.
Good luck with it!

That is a very interesting question!
I always thought it was a case of admiration for technological marvels vs a snide arrogant assumption that nothing that man achieves will mean anything anyway - cos you're all GONNA DIE!!

Le, Actually, Jesus' bio has similarities to pagan mythology, particularly the Goddess-Son strand, which was picked up by the Mary cult. Not surprising, since the whole Bible is a cut & paste of many preceding religions.
I think that Jesus was a real historical person, mainly because he was so revolutionary. His ideas re social justice, women etc went against the social/religious grain, & I think so many people follow Jesus because they sense his inherent humanity. This is not to say that the persona was not reworked!!! It definitely was!

Does the WTBTS still control your life?
by Honesty indo you follow the arrangement dictated by the governing body of jw's regarding df'd and da'd individuals?
do you shun the jw's like you are expected to by wt leaders or do you speak to jw's and greet them with a smile even if they shun you when you do so?
in complying with wtbts rules of acceptable behavior for da'd or df'd persons do you think that you are showing unconditional love to your neighbor?

What to wear to the District Convention
by sass_my_frass ini'm just gearing up to head off to the district convention.
i was worried about the shunning thing but then realised, how about i just don't wear the uniform, and dress like a study instead?
with a wig and sunnies none of my people will notice me, and strangers will treat me nicely and share their sandwiches and offer me bible studies.
