It figures. Awhile back, I saw an interview in which Firpo Carr, that guy who wrote the books you could get from Stoops about the divine name, also defended him (I have to thank that guy though-his books put it in my head to get a college education). From everything I've read and seen, it seems that the WT policy is to not back off in any manner. They genuinely seem to think they are right. After all, the almighty has ordained them, over all the billions on the planet, to speak for him.

JW Speaks up on Today Show on Behalf of Michael Jackson
by Gretchen956 indid anyone else see the witness who was interviewed on the today show as a friend of the jackson family in support of michael?
in light of all the child abuse mess within the organization you would think that they would stay away from that one.

LOL! The same thing happened to me back in November. Our car insurance lapsed because we weren't making enough to be able to afford the payments, so we ended up having to use one of those "high risk" insurance places. Well, the lady was real nice-she even let me bring in the money that I was short on the next week, just so my policy wouldn't lapse. Well, I had class, so my daughter volunteered to make the payment for me, and came home laughing. She said "Mom, did you happen to notice the Bible stories book and the Great Teacher book that your insurance lady has displayed in her offfice?" I actually hadn't-how the heck did I miss those, lol. I wonder if she would've trusted an "apostate" to bring her the money if she'd have known?:)

I have just recently left after 20 +years and it really seemed to me that they were pushing so many over the edge with more and more extreme views and what seemed like senile reasoning on everything--everything was seeming to be more and more out of wack. You hit the nail on the head, Cyber-sista! The last time I set foot in a Kingdom Hall, I had an all out panic attack. After I was in a car accident that totalled my car, my doctor and physical therapist perscribed yoga exercises to help me recover. I bought a tape in another town and did them. It was the only thing that brought me any kind of pain relief for a long time. Not surprisingly, when I made the decision to leave the organisation, my pain level dropped about 50%. Isn't funny how they continually use 1 Cor. 10:26 to make it look as though they are giving their members some kind of choice? Conscience matter, yeah, right.

This Forum.....What Benefit is Is thesedays?
by ScoobySnax infirstly .......i don't mean for one minute the end of friendships that may have been cultivated here.....or the "help" that may have been extended to those who needed it.... there are some good people here.
but......... but...... how often can the same old topics be bounced about and re-cycled amongst the topic threads here, usually created by the same few, for an imaginary multitude that i just don't see.
ok you say many may look in here, and may not comment.

Well, after the week I've had, I for one, am glad that this board is here.
I've been away for quite awhile, learning to function out in the real world, and feeling confident, thanks in part to the folks who took the time when I was a newbie here to answer my questions, which had been posted countless times before. No one took offense-they directed me to whatever thread contained the answer I sought, or patiently took the time to go over it "one more time".
To me, this board is kind of like an adopted family-one that took me in when my spiritual"birth family" got so abusive I had no choice but to leave.Sure, there are fights and fluff and alliances and whining. That's the stuff that families deal with every day (I have kids, I know). If things get too tense for me, I just leave for a bit. Just as when things get too much in my family, I check out just the same. And I do my share of whining, too, rest assured.Sometimes I get too busy with my real world life, and don't stop in, just as I sometimes get too busy with my concerns and put my kids' concerns at the bottom of the list. But nowhere else on the great big web have I found an exJW board that I like as much as this one (and believe me-I've done a lot of surfing).
At times like these past couple weeks, when I've had multiple visits from Jehovah's Witnesses, despite having voluntarily dissassociated myself and wanting no more than to live and let live, I'm glad I have somewhere to go that has such a nice balance of "People" type fluff and serious discussions to clear my palate.
I was also one of those lurkers. I lurked for weeks and read posts for hours on end before I worked up the nerve to post myself. Did I ever say thank you? I don't remember. If not, thanks to you all. You included, Scoob, for kicking us in the ass and reminding us to have a little cheese with our whine
And to all you lurkers out there-this IS what the real world is like. Delicious, and sometimes a little stinky-like a nice swiss cheese.

Suffering does it have a good side?
by frankiespeakin ini know this is a touchy subject.
most people, hate suffering, and feel there is no good reason for a person to suffer.
i feel like that often, but less and less often.

As the saying goes, Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Buddhist philosophy
Well, being one who has experienced bouts of severe, debilitating pain due to an irreparable injury, this is one issue that I am still exploring. I would like to believe the above to be true, but in the throes of a bad spell, when all my relaxation and visualizing tricks are just not working, I automatically wish there was an end to the pain, however that may occur (death seems like such a lovely option during those eternal hours).
But then when the pain ends, there is an incredible relief. The end of the pain brings about a kind of joy in the fact that the suffering is over and I survived it.
I am of course, talking in the merely physical sense. On any other level, the pain is not such an issue. I dealt, I accept it. Such is life.

The Watchtower Won't Release 'Apostates'!
by metatron inthe corrupt old men who rule the watchtower preach that 'apostates' are injuring their congregations.
but won't let them go!.
they could invent a new rule stating that anybody who doesn't turn in time for a year is simply.

The Society would rather risk decay in their flock - Why?
Because they need a visible "example" for their followers. It's known as scapegoating. Someone has to act as a bad guy contrast to all the "love and light," so warning lessons can be taught to keep the sheep from wandering out of their little pen. Jung theorized that militant groups have a tendency to project their shadow fears on someone or something else to justify whatever their platform may happen to be. For Hitler, it was the Jews, for Jehovah's Witnesses, it's Satan and other "independent thinkers" ie-anyone that doesn't tow the party line around their necks, anchor and all.
And from personal experience, I can tell you that you don't have to be an elder or someone in a prominent position, nor do you need to publicly speak out against the organisation. Refusing to give any reason at all brands you as dangerous, also.

Gender Lines
by Mysterygirl ini have just finished reading a book called gender outlaw.
in this book the righter has an opion that gender is based on "moden life" rather then the "human form", ie do you look, act, talk and have the package of a male or female in your current state and even life upbringing - or were we born male or female and that is that.. if we look, act and talk and even have the package of the gender that we insist that we are, does that mean we are male or female ( i say that i am a woman, i have the package of a woman, i look like a woman and i talk like a woman, my drives licence and birth certificate say that im a woman) so what am i ???.
the reason that i am asking this is, i had a visit from a elder (that i have never meet before)and he was talking about my transexuality and the reason i was dfs.

Guess What? I Got ANOTHER Visit From An Elder Today
by minimus intoday, an elder stopped by my work just to say hello and invite me to the memorial!
he asked me if the presiding overseer had called me yet because he and another elder were going to give me a call at home to set up a visit.
he said they (the elders) decided this on their elder's meeting last night.......so what do you think is going to happen when i tell them i'm not going to allow them to make a "shepherding" call???

Lucky you! Mine's the same guy that came to my house weekly eleven years ago, when I had morning sickness so bad I couldn't get out of bed for four months, to remind me that I was shirking my duty to Jehovah because I was missing meetings.
He's downright rabid about his zealousy. I was always dissapointed that a wave of nausea didn't hit me when I dragged myself to answer the door so I could puke on his shoes and show him why I couldn't go to meetings

I feel for ya, Min. I've had three visits this week-one from the big boys-the PO and his sidekick. And I'm DAd. They don't seem to understand the words "I am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses." I can't seem to bring myself to say "I dissassociated myself." I like myself too much to dissassociate from myself:) It is pretty annoying though. They keep looking for a reason. I never gave one when I left and won't now. But I could afford a clean break-I was "only" losing friends, not family.I just told them that I know where the kingdom hall is, have a nice day, and closed the door. And you are right-they definitely like to send the ones you are/were friends with.
Be careful. Do whatever works for you. And here's a little Memorial carol I wrote after my third visit:)
Elder's Memorial Psalm
'Tis the season for the Memorial
fa la la la la la la la la
The seats we must fill
for the oratory, oh
fa la la la la la la la la
Don we now our sheperding faces
fa la la la la la la la la
To put the slackers in their places
fa la la la la la la la la
We will even take apostates
fa la la la la la la la la
To fill the back seats
up with reprobates
fa la la la la la la la la
A full house will impress the peoples
fa la la la la la la la la
Then Jehovah'll bless us with new sheeples
fa la la la la la la la la
Well, the ending's kinda lame but it sure beats a shotgun or giving them the pleasure of being "persecuted" by a rabid "apostate" at the door, lol.

Tree of life
by BluesBrother inlets face it, the bible does not say and so any explanation is little more than speculation.
those of us here that believe the bible has value can only reason on it as we see fit.
personally, i do accept the scripures but i do not see the need to take all of genesis quite as literally as the wt does.

but then he has no right to put any limits whatsoever on his creation?
But why does he need to if he has created them in his image? He is the one who declared that his creation was good.
