Seminary education
by Justin inas has been demonstrated on this forum, the only two positions regarding religion which are logically consistent are fundamentalism and unbelief (whether of the atheist or agnostic variety).
an in-between position, though some of us would like to hold it, is not logically persuasive.
yet, that is exactly the situation which is produced in mainline (or "liberal") seminaries today.

Dogs and Communion
by Justin ini have been attending an independent church lately where they allow people to bring their pets (dogs) and give them communion.
for those who don't know the procedure, people file down to the front of the church and receive a piece of bread and a sip of wine - of course, they don't have two classes.
well, if you have your doggie with you, the pet can also receive (i assume only the bread - what a mess it would make for them to slurp from the chalice!).

Another "truth" alternative
by Justin inever hear of harold camping, president of family radio?
he's an elderly gentleman who periodically sets dates for the end of the world and pleads with people to leave their churches, claiming that the "harvest" has now commenced.
sound familiar?

"Truth is a pathless land"
by Justin inimagine the leader of a religious organization telling his people to fold it up and go home.
that's just what happened in 1929 when jiddu krishnamurti dissolved his order of the star.
he was 34 years old, and was being groomed by theosophists to be the new messiah since childhood, but decided he would have none of it.

Latest on Creative Days?
by Justin inin the book from paradise lost to paradise regained (1958) the society published a commentary on genesis, chapter 1 in which the creation was explained in terms of a scientific theory which was supposedly compatible with the bible.
for example, "when the earth was formed, it was a hot ball of gas, and no doubt looked much like the sun does today.
" (page 9) and, the earth was enveloped in a "blanket of darkness .

Paul's hope
by Justin inin a previous thread, someone referred to a jw who thought the wt teaches that paul expected to go to heaven immediately at death.
this is quite surprising, but perhaps someone read something from the new testament, took it at face value, and thought the society did also.. .
this brings to mind a text - philippians 1:21-24 - which i here quote from the american standard version (1901) as representative of what we would find in just about any translation:.

Scholarly articles
by Justin infor those who would like to read scholarly articles on the bible and theology, check out the website for the wesleyan theological journal at http://wesley.nnu.edu/wesleyan_theology/theojrnl/index.htm .. these are the kinds of articles you will need to read more than once, and have your dictionary handy!
they are full of footnotes, and the scholars seem to be writing primarily for their colleagues.
the articles are not for everyone, but may be helpful some.
