Songs that remind you of your Mum . . .
by nicolaou ini remember my mum standing at the kitchen sink preparing little cypriot meat patties in a beat up enamel dish.
there was a window overlooking the small garden where me and my brother and sisters used to play (wonderful, wonderful times before the cult got its tentacles into our family).. my mum used to sing lots of tunes but this lynn anderson song is the one i remember .
actually choking up a little .

What's the most dumbest/petty thing you've heard of someone being "stumbled" over?
by Reality79 in- some loser once took offense that i hugged a sister goodbye at a leaving do and ran back to the elders like a little child telling on me.
i was 15, this sister was in her 40s at the time.. - this elder said someone told him they saw me with a copy of the sun newspaper.
yes, this paper is known for its 'page 3' topless girls but far from pornagraphic and i wasn't even thinking along those lines.. - one brother who had a good job was 'counselled' because he was actually able to buy himself nice things including a new car (shock, horror!!

Yeah i remember the ''no such thing as a platonic relationship''... There was a bro who became a really good friend of mine, i had no interest in him and vice versa. Anyway he ended up seeing my sister and how the gossips loved that! Lol.
Anothere time this bro told me that he had loved me for years. I was a little freaked to say the least. I lied to him and said i was interested in another bro. Then a week later he said he had been asking around and had found out that i was interested in a MS, who even fully grown was a foot shorter than me! It was news to me! I stood there open mouth and said ''no, it's definately not him, you don't even now him, nobody does''. [Well that was true, he didn't exist] He called me a liar and stropped off! I was baffled!
Some of those dubbies were peculiar folk!

Ambersun. Oh my goodness i am still in shock at what you wrote! That is beyond ridiculous.
Some bro/sis went to my parents when i was a child for being too ''happy''. I was stumbling ones as i raced to get in the KH. I just wanted to see my friends...
My sister when she was 13 had a dress on that touched the top of her knees. My parents were dragged in the back and counselled for letting their daughter wear inappropriate clothing. My mom wishes now she had pressed charges on pedo behaviour. She was 13 for Gods sake!

How is it that well educated and financially stable people become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by 21stcenturywoman inwhen i was growing up most of the jws around me were poor and lower middle class.
some were middle class, but very few were upper middle class.
only (maybe) about 1% were college educated.

They target the vunerable... The ones who have come from abusive homes and are looking for that peace and love the dubbies pretend to offer. Being well educated or not doesn't matter when it comes to mind control.
The headship rule does attract the controlling husbands and fathers.

Eating Disorders and the JWs
by the_raisin inhey everybody!
so i was wondering something... am i the only who realized that eds ran rampant throughout the witnesses?
i remeber dreading the conventions and memorials because, as every young girl involved knew, we all covertly checked each other out and snarked on each other's bodies.

That's what winds me up with people... They are soo obsessed with making you eat, they completely miss the dangerous part...The part of you that wants to hurt/punish/destroy. Thats what i found with ''professionals'', they would focus on your eating habits and weight gain. I would plead with the dr that i needed help with the urge to inflict pain and he would dismiss it. It was all about weight and food charts. It was when i met my therapist that i found someone who tried to understand. The food issue was not bought up, it was the self hate he worked with. Because of me he now has incredible success with ED patients, because he understands it's nothing to do with food or vanity.
It's those relapses that are the worse! You know what's coming and you can't escape it... Next time you feel yourself relapsing pm me and we will fight it together!

Just looked over an old post of mine...........
by watersprout inand i started to read it.
it was the one where i openly wrote that i ''hear''.... i couldn't read it all, because as i reading it was causing chest pains.
think it was taking me back and i was reminded how certain ones hurt me with the things they said.

SO i'm not following Shelby i can assure you. I follow no one... I asked her a simple question, nothing wrong in that. Ones that belong to the body of Christ do ask each other questions, support, reassurance. I have had ones that belong to Christ come to me. It doesn't mean they follow me or that I follow anyone. If anyone tried to follow me i would be very cross. We only follow Christ. The reason i asked that question was because i have a very fiery nature and i do find it hard to control... Shelby has the gift of teaching, so i asked her. Just like if you ask a teacher a question at school. Doesn't mean to say you follow the teacher does it?
I just wanted to thanks those that stuck up for me, i really don't want to get into another discussion about me ''hearing''...That's not what this thread is about.

Do You Blame Your Current Life's Issues Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indo you tend to blame your problems on the fact that you were a jehovah's witness?.

No i don't... Your life is what you make it...Yes i could blame the WT for the way my life was, but I changed my thinking. It took 14 years of therapy and i have come out the other side. I refused to let the WT take anymore of my life. It took a chunk but it ain't taking the rest.
The future hasn't been written yet, and i am making sure my future will be rosy and bright.
