some of you are aware of my feelings about the role of women in the christian congregation and know i chose a female priest (and someone who is now a good friend) to conduct thirdson and mrs. thirdsons wedding.
what got me thinking was yesterdays review of the results of the "all colleague survey" with my manager when we discussed where we as department were doing well and where we needed improvement.
my boss scored an approval rating of over 85% on nearly every topic.

hi shane,.
just read your post of 30 august regarding beards.
Hi Ladonna,
I will try to put something down soon. But I would like to scan some letters, or parts of them, maybe some pictures. But, though no longer an appointed servant as of this year, I'm still inside with family. So I walking a fine line. I have been fighting this issue for decades. The last few years I have been fighting Circuit Overseers and the society more than ever on more harmful issues. So I recently pushed the beard issue again I suppose to bring MYSELF to a terminal confrontation. The confrontation resulted but with new issues surfacing. All too complex to cover now.
The bottom line, to all, is that a bearded elder in the US is to the WT society almost as bad as a clean shaven Arab to the Taliban.

Hey,
I'm restraining myself. You dont want to get me going on the beard issue.
Pathofthorns summarized the official stand perfectly. But when the letter comes in from the society with all those reasons a beard can cause problems in the congregation almost any body of elders will follow up with a no beard policy for their congregation.
I had a beard as an elder on two different occasions in the past 23 years. The last time, recent, I met with much more intolerance then 23 years ago. This is in the States. Just another proof the org has gone the wrong direction in the last two decades.
Maybe soon I'll tell my 'beard' stories.

justice 19 concern for lost sheep.
jesus said, what do you think?
if any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine sheep, and go to the mountains, and seek that which goes astray?
Hello Makena1
Quote: “Anyone else run into this "conscience of the body (BOE)" thing before”
Yes, too often. Usually in a response from the service department to a letter from the local body questioning how to handle a ‘conscience’ matter. The concept is touched upon in the following quote.
*** w82 7/15 25 Benefiting From Your God-given Conscience ***
15 Was this ‘a matter of conscience’ for private decision? No. Even if an engaged couple’s consciences would permit something excessive or outrageous, the collective conscience of the elders could not be ignored. While not wanting to impose their personal tastes, they have at heart the peace, harmony and spirituality of the whole congregation. And they should be conscientiously aiding persons to ‘know how to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is a pillar and support of the truth.’—1 Timothy 3:15; 1 Corinthians 10:31.
So the “collective conscience” of the body overrules the right of individuals to make choices in the name of the “peace, harmony, and spirituality of the whole congregation.” The theoretical bases is that “in God’s household” their ‘collective conscience’ rules and the body can tell people “how to conduct themselves”.
So Paul said “you were called to freedom” and we should train ourselves to “perceive right from wrong” (Gal 5:1 & Heb 5:14) but the WT and the ‘collective conscience’ (no scriptural ref) of the local body of elders defy these scriptural objectives.

i was just wondering what everyone's username meant.
i have my own guesses (sixofnine, silentlambs, slayerlayer-i'm almost afraid :o), amazing-enough said!,mommy, fredhall-is that your name?, ozziepost-from downunder, and the list goes on!

I became fed up with making sense and keeping up with rules and procedures in the KMS book, OM book and letters to elders. By the time I got brave enough to post online, though still an appointed servant, I had mentally rejected the authority of the Society. To my great relief I submitted myself to the laws given by Jesus at Matt 22:36-40. Just two laws.

Dhook,
Many here have been hurt severely. It is possible my younger brother would still be alive if it were not for the extreme religion in which he was raised. Its is possible my good friend Dennis would be alive if he would have responded better to the needs of his young disturbed sons instead of taking the standard JW hard line approach. Its possible I would have avoided years of depression if I hadn’t believed that the WT bs regarding mental health problems.
On the other hand I appreciate many things I got from being a witness. And although there were many missed opportunities and some harm in my life due to WT control, who can confidently say if they changed certain events in their past life that it would not have taken other wrong turns and turned out worse. This feeling will not be shared by many here because of the level of harm they have endured.
As to moving on, I am ready to just be a Christian and read the Bible regular with some friends. The more the friends the better. But I am compelled to bring as many of my old friends along too. So I’m here, and I still attend some meetings with the purpose of sharing the truth.
As to your thoughts to “disgruntled Christians”, I mostly agree. But the important thing is that hopefully we are CHRISTIANS, disgruntled or not.

hmm ... all this freemasonry posting has sent me off on a trail.
found a bit of a spooky site at http://www.newnetizen.com/globalelite/bloodlines/russellbloodline.htm which has page after page about the watchtower and especially c.t.russell.
they reckon he is from a long line of russells who were masons.
So where is Norm, Farkel, Kent, Alan F? I know this was a hot subject long ago on H2O before I knew anything. Somebody here knows a lot about this subject, but so far silence. Must be the holidays!
I did a web search an "Illuminati" and kept coming up with "New World Order", "World Government", "Secret Society". Too spooky for me.

just wanted to post to say hi and introduce myself.
im a female whose favorite family member had fought against jws all her life, then died a few years ago.
her children are now being raised as jws against her will.
Welcome Morrigan,
Sounds noble. Just don’t go so far as baptism. This is more a legal contract to obey the organization than a covenant with God. They can be harsh when one does not obey. According to Jesus this commitment is like a yoke that is kindly and a load that is light. Mat 12. You probably already know the load of a JW is not so kindly nor light.
Good to have you here Morrigan. Hope you have success with your efforts.

dungbeetle,
You and I know how this experience touches my heart. My wife and I actually attended this last Sundays WT study. It was disgusting. While my children are now looked down upon for terrible infractions such as a navel ring or unacceptable hair style we have another case of true fruitage the WT society’s teachings.
Dim:
"your life is what you make of it."
Good point. Please understand though, many are upset by the control some have had over the lives of others before they grew strong enough to realize: "your life is what you make of it."

hi friends,.
i have been overwhelmed by the number of witnesses contacting me on the net lately.
traffic to the site has more than tripled since feb. 1999, and i am getting tons of email every day.
Randy,
As I have told you in the past, your site was a great help to me. I remember listening to the audio of Ray Franz and Ed Dunlap and thinking I agree with these guys more than anyone on my present body of elders. While there were some things that SEEMED sarcastic to me your site was much more reasonable than others I had seen. And incorporating a little humor at least lets the visiting JW see the “apostates” are not all somber, heartless morons.
I appreciate you story above
quote:"The first began at Bethel in our private Bible studies after the Monday night Watchtower Study for the Bethel family. I was using The Living Bible for a breath of fresh air, having read the New World Translation through several times. The poring over Romans and Galatians, and the subsequent discovery of the meaning of salvation by grace ("undeserved kindness" according to Witnesses) was by far the most incredible and world-shaking event of my life."
That is one I could talk all day about, but I’m trying not to sound like an evangelist. I’m not sure of a lot things anymore, but understanding the Bible teaching of ‘justification’ with God, grace, is an important issue to understand. There are 600,000,000 JWs who do not feel right with God and that is an atrocity.
Thanks for share that letter.
