"a 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally killed her instructor at a shooting range when the weapon recoiled over her shoulder, according to arizona authorities.
another reason to go against those arguing that young children should be taught how to use guns.

her suffering is finally over.
marilyn has been battling cancer for about three years and at times it looked like she would win.
but in the last few months the cancer spread.
OldFlame asked: Mary did I know them it has been so long since I have been around this site . I didnt even know if it were still alive . Does Simon still have it ?
I'm not sure if you knew them or not. Jim was one of the very, very few people that got his PhD while he was a Witness and he taught at the University of Lethbridge for a number of years. He got The Axe for bringing to light many of the Borg's twisting of words to make their own interpretation of the bible seem 'correct'. He and Marilyn were lucky in that they were able to get all of their family out and I think the entire congregation was dissolved out there.
I was actually over at their place for supper a couple of months ago and Marilyn had made a wonderful saffron rice with lots of veggies and shrimp. It was delicious. I just couldn't believe how quickly she went downhill. :-(

I just got back from seeing Jim. I know he's in shock but he's strong and has good support from family and friends. I first met him and Marilyn about 7 years ago through Mouthy and we immediately hit it off. Marilyn was an absolute sweetheart and reminded me very much of my own mother. I know she's been battling ovarian cancer for the last few years and took chemo a couple of years ago. For a time, it seemed to have worked for her and we were all so happy.
Then a couple of weeks ago, Jim called me at work and left a message telling me that Marilyn was in the hospital and that the cancer had come back and there was no hope. He broke down sobbing and I started to cry. I went to see her that night and was shocked at the change in her from about 6 weeks previously. I had planned on going tonight after work to see her again, but it was too late.
I'm not sure what I believe about God or an afterlife, but if there is something beyond this life, then Marilyn has surely earned 'her wings'.
RIP my friend.
as a little background, my dad became a jw in 1980 i think, went to bethel, married my mom in 86' went back for another year and then i came along... he worked in the auto repair shop at bethel while he was there, and upon leaving, continued working in this field.
my whole life they have been the type of jw parents that tell you how you will never get to high school, never graduate it, never get married in this system, never have children in this system etc.. i say this to illustrate the end is just around the corner attitude they have always had, probably because they fully bought/buy into the hype at the conventions/wt articles.
my father has no plan in place for retirement, and he is physically slowing down doing such hard laborious work.
my mom has skill as a seamstress. Even if she got a medium paying job and my dad was on unemployment for a while until he could find work, they could make it. She would rather just continue with her pioneer lifestyle, hoping others take care of her needs.
Which is exactly why you should not let them move in with you. If you did, your parents would view this as a 'gift from Jehovah' and see how He blesses you when you put the King-dumb first? If your parents are forced to give up their pioneering and UI and go get jobs like regular people, it might make them question why they weren't blessed by putting spiritual things first. And we all know that that is the first step out of the Borg.
"...shouldnt looking for employment be the first thing she should be doing instead of trying to move in with her sons family?..."
Not from the Witness point of view. Witnesses are simply not taught that looking for work should be No. 1 on their list of things to do. Knocking on doors is supposed to take precedence over everything else in life. If you do that, then Jehovah will miraculously provide for you!! The fact too is: many Witnesses are simply lazy. After years or decades of doing nothing but going out with your friends knocking on doors every day, most Witnesses do NOT relish the thought of having to give that up to go get a regular job. Real jobs require set hours, demanding customers and can be quite stressful. Plus, you're always looked down upon when you give up pioneering for work to pay the bills. Obviously you aren't relying on Jehover enough. Your parents' hinting that they want to move in with you would solve their problem! They could sell their home, live with you guys for virtually nothing and continue on with their cozy life. Glad that your wife is on board with you on this.
Also they could downsize, sell their home which has good value, and move into an economical apartment. Even the money from the sale would help them for a long while.
It could, but eventually, that money is going to run out. Mortgages are eventually paid off. Rent is never paid off. If they move in with you and they can't pay the rent, surely you're not going to kick out your pioneering parents?!
who would have thought that enough people would raise their hands when the resolution was put before the congregation tonight?
based on the pledges that the publishers put on those little pieces of paper, the congregation is promising the wts that they will send $1,000/month to support the society's building funds.. there is a traditional monthly shortfall of about $100 with the basic monthly bills usually around $1,000.
i didn't raise my hand.
Contribution boxes: As noted above, on May 1, 2014, each Kingdom Hall should have only two types of contribution boxes, one labeled “Local Congregation Expenses” and one labeled “Worldwide Pedophile Defense Work.”
Aaaaah, got it. I wonder how much longer it'll be before they're passing these around on Sundays:

LMAO! That is hilarious. Considering that the Organization's gravy train more or less hit the skids when they went to the 'voluntary donation arrangement' for the literature (to avoid paying taxes), there's no way the congregations are going to be giving this kind of money to Big Brother each and every month. Not just because Witnesses are trained to be cheap, but because most Witnesses simply can't afford to.
My JW sister told me a couple of weeks ago that they've come up with a 'new arrangement' but I was driving downtown Toronto and wasn't paying much attention. Can someone bring me up to speed as to what this 'new arrangment' is? I was under the impression that they want to pass around envelopes for donations and that they're getting rid of the contribution boxes at the back of the Hall. Is this correct?

there's a photo of shasta lake near where i live -- it's very sad now to see how low the lake is.
and governor brown is being really wimpy about it, suggesting we not flush our toilets as often as usual.
I've long thought that instead of building the underground oil pipelines in Canada and the USA, we should be building pipelines underground that can transfer water from places that get flooded, to areas (like California), that are running on empty. That way, flooding in certain areas could be greatly reduced, and the places that urgently needed the water would be greatly helped.
With that said, civilization itself could be a big factor as to what's happening in California. I found a couple of interesting quotes on what man is doing that leads up to the droughts that can lead to once-fertile lands becoming deserts:
"...During the first four centuries AD, the Romans ruled much of North Africa, which supplied most of the grain for the Empire. Then the crops began to fail as the fragile soils were overploughed and overcultivated. Trees had been cleared to provide more land for cultivation, yet these trees were vital for regulating the amount of water in the soil, and also prevented soils from being blown or washed away. The soils which were washed away by the rain ended up as silt in the sea. The Romans were unable to stop the silt from filling their harbours, so within a few years their bustling, prosperous trading ports became ghost towns, with the sea moving ever further away as the continued deposition of silt led to the constant retreat of the sea.
Today, the same things are happening, but as we have become more civilised, we have become much better at creating deserts. Around a quarter of the South American rainforest has already been cut or burned down in order to make land available for cultivation. The rainforest soils are very fragile though, and need the trees to hold them together. Once they are removed, the soil can be washed away very quickly. Moreover, rainforest soils are not very fertile. Within a few years of use, all the nutrients in the soil are used up, meaning that crops can no longer be grown.
The soil is little better for keeping cattle. Forest soil produces 22 kilos of beef per hectare, as opposed to 270 kilos of beef on a European farm. Yet between 1966 and 1986 - 50,000 square kilometres of Brazilian rainforest were cleared to make way for new cattle ranches. Even now, when we know this, an area of tropical rainforest the size of one hundred football pitches is being destroyed every minute. The long term effects of deforestation are being ignored by governments, farmers and corporations looking to make a profit out of the first few years of land use. What makes this destruction even more pointless is the fact that a properly managed area of Brazilian rainforest can produce ten times more food than land that has been claimed for use as a cattle ranch..."
There are more people living in the State of California, than in all of Canada. How many thousands of acres of trees have been demolished to make way for multi-million dollar homes? The trees get cut down, you go a couple of years without enough rain, then you get a ton of rain all at once which causes mudslides because the dry soil can't handle it and the trees have all been chopped down.
There simply isn't never-ending resources available to suffice for that many people living there and something has to give.
my lower back went out again.
typically, once every 9 months, i get a terrible spasm that can last for days.
right now, i am icing it but i am so sore!
I can, but I'm not sure if it would help with your back pain.
as a born-in, i was eager to join the ministry school.
my cousins were also born-in but lived in different states.
there was keen competition to see who could do mature things, such as baptism (my mom said when i was 35) and ministry school.
Actually yes it did. I have to do some public speaking in my present job and I have to say that what I learned all the years being on the school absolutely helps.
so the elder i studied with called round last wednesday.
i didn't tell him i'd lost my faith, i just said there are a number of reasons i wouldn't be able to return to either my studies or the meetings.
he asked me whar 2 or 3 of my reasons are so we could discuss them.. my reply: 1 i think all christians should partake of the bread and wine.
@ Chrisuk: if you're not baptized, don't even waste your breath. Their goal is not to "make sure of all things", but merely to ensure that the sheeples are towing the party-line. They couldn't care less if you can prove your assertions from the bible alone. It all boils down to two questions: Do you believe that Jehovah is using the Witchtower Babel & Crap Society as His "mouthpiece"? And do you believe that the Slobbering Body members are "the Slave" through which He makes His word known?".
If you want the conversation to end real quick, just tell him you're in the middle of reading this and he'll run screaming out of your house never to be seen again:
