Is child abuse becoming the 'Benghazi' of exJW's?

i've been noticing a trend recently that seems to becoming prevalent in posts which i think is a little sad and counter productive where, whatever the topic is actually about, someone will be keen to remind everyone about child abuse issues within the wts.. any sort of abuse, especially that of children, is a very serious issue but i'm not sure it's prevention is necessarily best-served by brining it up at every opportunity.

it ends up looking a little like the republican party's obsession with benghazi where they harp on about it to such an extent that people have become blind to it and it almost becomes a punchline.

people become less and less convinced of the claims because they hear them too often.. trying to turn any discussion into including comments on it, however well-intentioned, starts to look misguided at some point.

I agree Simon.

Child abuse is a heinous crime.

How the Organization handled this issue to protect their reputation is criminal.

I believe they are more careful today, as are most institutions that have had to face this issue.

One of my awakenings was how they dealt with it, not that it happened. God's Organization would set the example in how they cared for the sheep, it wouldn't have to be punished by Satan's world for failing in something that it should shine as the example in ... and then do what they could to hide it.

When Gregario Smith was interviewed about his recently released documentary Truth Be Told by jwpodcast about not covering the abuse issue I thought he had a balanced answer.

this is going around the kingdom halls now, i thought it was a hoax but are not all the end time dates produced by the organization some hoax or con?

the reason why the end did not come in 1975 was the watchtower society had not put eve's creation in their equation.

i was told when we had a "meet and greet" if "we knew the date of eve's creation we would know the year jehovah was going to destroy the earth.. it's been 40 years since 1975, can you believe it's been 40 years since "stay alive till 1975!"?

Hmmm ... So Jesus (God's master worker) made all of the animals on earth in pairs so they could reproduce, yet, he made Adam, gave him all of the components necessary to procreate with a female of his species but forgot to make one for him. All of a sudden ... forty years later ... Jesus notices, hey, I forgot to give Adam a wife so he rectifies his shortcoming by building a woman from one of Adam's ribs, and finally the last creative day is complete.

Do you suppose Adam got a little turned on watching the other mammals doing it? Did he wake up with morning wood for 40 years without wondering why or maybe asking God about it?

Scares me that I used to believe crap like this.

Poster country flags and privacy

the new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).

before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.

It doesn't matter to me. I'm in the United States.

But I have to admit, even though it is a huge country, as Dagney brought out, I was terrified the first time I posted here. I was so paranoid. I doubt that exposing my country would have stopped me ... state for sure (at the time) ... some of these European countries are no larger than some U.S. states so I can certainly sympathize. I think it is somewhat paranoid to think exposing the country would cause an outing, but newly doubting JW's are very paranoid.

Using Third-World Poverty-Stricken Witnesses To Guilt More Donations Video, Where is that Video?

i heard about a new video where the watchtower has a single mother and her child eating millet or rice with almost no material possessions worried about donating to the world wide work.

now most religions are trying to donate to third-world countries, not the watchtower profit enterprise, they are willing to take a families last milk cow so their leaders can spend those funds fighting pedophile lawsuits!.

every place the watchtower builds you read about the angry citizens having to pick up their tax bills because the watchtower only takes!

NVR2L8 ... agree, I'm just saying there are plenty of things to criticize the organization for, but JW's are pretty good about taking care of their own in my opinion. I would agree that other faiths are good, some not so, some are better ... and then there are those that take care of others with no religious persuasion. JW's help is conditional to be sure. I guess I can't make an informed decision as the entire scope of how JW's treat others in all congregations all over the earth, but I think as individuals they are mostly caring people ... although the organizational aspect makes them feel a disconnect to non-JW's who may be in need.

I have to say I actually side with inside on this ... except maybe his use of the word never.

Helping a brother in need, on a local level JW'S do this. They as individuals care (of course the one in need must be active).

As an organization, I believe the motivation to help on a larger scale is more for a public relations pat on the back.

Christmas Beliefs!

I attended Christmas Mass with my mother at her Catholic Church (not as a believer, just to sit with mom) ... interestingly the priest gave two possible reasons for the Dec 25 date, the first he spoke about the early Roman church and the Saturnalia. I was impressed that he addressed it and actually made it sound reasonable that they adopted it into Christianity. If the Catholic Church was more up front about such things in the past, it would take away some of the ammo of the JW's.
