I enjoy reading alot of the apologist's colourful posts on this board as well as witnessing their defeats at the hands of the likes of Farkel and AlanF. Who is your all-time favourite? I have a few nominees:
scholar - A fairly recent poster who is famous for reiterating his non-points as proof of his points, offering no evidence and having some epic battles with AlanF. I think his licence plate probably reads "607ORBUST".
JCanon - long, very verbose posts quoting alot of different material. Not offensive and prone to personal attacks like scholar, but comes off as a loon after much reading
YouKnow - this was my all-time favourite apologist. YouKnow was capable of being arrogant, going on the attach against anyone, smug, and inflammatory. I loved his material and felt tht he probably felt alot more at home here on the board than in his own congregation! I got the idea he shut up in his home cong. after no one would listen to his rantings and never getting appointed.
I want to appoint him here as Chief Apologist (but of course he is gone now). I'd love it if he could come back because at least YouKnow could put up a seemingly plausible argument (unlike scholar) and was smart enough not to pick the same battles twice.

Jeremiah 29:10
by TheOldHippie inthe new danish and swedish revisions of the nwt have "lifted up" the nwt-with references footnote alternative rendering of jeremiah 29:10 into being the preferred one, so that it no longer says "in babylon" but "for babylon".
has there been any change or revision in the english issue?

I knew it was only a matter of time before "scholar" showed up on this thread. For any newbies, please search the board for scholar's numerous defeats. You Know he's out to lunch.

The Society's Videos
by seeitallclearlynow inwhat does everybody think of the various videos produced by the society?
i have one in particular in mind that i could not stand even while i was still "in".
had a really "bad attitude" when i tried to watch it in preparation for one of the service meetings in that series when they were covering some of the videos.

I remember when the videos came out along with the CD-ROMS etc. It was a way to stuff JWs with the bill to buy large ticket items and make more money.
"Brothers, don't copy those CD-ROMS - you gotta donate for a legit copy. And hey software like that in the stores might $60 to $100. That should be a good guide as to what to donate." Knowing how cheap CD-ROMs are to reproduce, you just knew this wasn't "giving life's water free".

The dubs at "Witness World" are discussing UN involvement!!!!!
by somebodylovesme ini am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.
they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.
they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.

If there is an "infiltrator" who is also reading this thread, please cite the very damning articles from 1996 Awake (I think) supporting the UN that basically were posted by the Society as their contribution to supporting the ideals. Then have them explain how the Society complied with their obligations that they presumed to know nothing of. That little piece of work is the to me the most telling piece of evidence that demonstrates that they knew EXACTLY what they were getting into.
By the way, I had the opportunity the last time I went to NYC to talk to a guy sitting next to me on the plane who worked at the UN. I asked him alot about why a religious organization would apply as an NGO. His first and only answer was to "gain recognition and support with assistance from the UN in unfriendly nations." Look at all of the UN sponsored conferences that the Society sat in on trying to get the right to promote the religion in foreign countries. Riding the (Image of) the Wild Beast for certain!

Blondie's comments in the thread about Jim Penton's upcoming book got me thinking. She was talking about the JW rumour mill. I've been out (DFed) since 1995 and have only set foot in a KH for my brother's wedding. My brother informed me a couple of weeks ago that an old friend was asking about me. She has heard through the grapevine that I had been reinstated (pretty funny). I asked him to figure out where she heard that from - I am pretty unclear as to how that might've started. Apparently this has made it's rounds around our city, maybe started when I was probably spotted talking to a few JWs that I've run into in public. It's pretty sad that she would be genuinely concerned about me (she and her husband apparently ask my parents about me from time to time) but that they can't pick up the phone and ask for themselves.
On a better note, my brother confessed to me that he is "out" (ie. of the organization). I found out he had been doing research for 2 years in private and decided to stop going to meetings. He too, like me hates to be deceived and couldn't put up with the lies anymore. I was in a total state of shock when he told me - overjoyed, but not really even believing what I was hearing again. He hasn't told my parents or other "superfine" brother yet. I don't want to say much else in order to protect his identity (although when he read this board, he could never figure out who my user account was).

I Like Beef, But This Made Me ILL !
by xjw_b12 inwith the mad cow controversy that has been raging on now, a lot of consumers, including myself, are a lot more informed about what what contitutes "animal feed"
britain and europe have banned slaughterhouse waste being used as feed, but canada has not yet done so.
what shocked me in the following article was the extent of all slaughterhouse remains that are used, even to the point of weening calves on cattle blood !

If you thought that was gross, read "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser
