Rarely do companies do the official exchange gifts thing anymore. Most people get gifts for people at work they consider friends, but not at the office party.

in light of the recent media on the pdophiles with in the organization and the wtbts stand on how these shoulld be dealt with , especailly in states where there is no law regarding reporting this to authorities.,............does any one here feel the neighborhood, town council or neighborhood watch in their town might have interest in know ing , child molestors are walking thier side walks.. .
knowing that summer is coming and lots of outdoor activities along with children being out of school, the community i am sure would like to know who is knocking on their door.. after all, how many pedophiles get an opportunity to get into the community and actually see homes where kids live , see the surrounding s of the house, all in such an innocent trusted manner....put your self at that door answering it with this person at the door.......if you knew this.
can we go door to door after the witnesses are there to say.....by the way the folks who were just here, are part of an organization that shields pedophiles, and doesnt come clean with even its own members as to whothe said offender is .........perhaps a petition against the house to house could be signed......and then offered to local officals.
I agree with expatbrit about informing people about JW's. Our approach as exjw's should be to get the word of warning out in a positive manner.
It is easy for the Watchtower to paint us with a brush of being bitter ex followers. It is up to us to keep things factual and not emotional as much as possible.
I think this board does a great job of doing just that. While we do have some fun with our memories of meeting attendance etc, the members of this board do not concentrate on just complaining.

I encourage people to start a new spiritual path. However, I myself am very wary of any individual or group that claims they have a "better way". I think Jesus had the best advice, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Personal Bible study, great, personal reading and meditation on other religions, metaphysics, etc, fantastic.
I personally think you become more spiritually strong be doing volunteer work that helps others or the world in general. I think volunteering is an exercise of our spiritual muscle.
My personal belief is that god is literally love and I define love as that which motivates us to do for others with no benefit to ourselves.

the question is about the term "tolerance" or "tolerating".. when someone says something along the lines of "i'm very tolerant of gay people" or "gay people should be tolerated", how do you feel?.
the reason i ask is this: doesn't the concept of tolerating something imply a background negative?
for instance, i can say "i tolerate my brother-in-law".
Here I will respectedly disagree with Jim.
I have chosen to be disowned rather than simply tolerated. For me, being tolerated by someone who supposedly loves me is not enough.
I would think that this of course would be a personal decision.

i seem to remember reading somewhere that the tie is a phallic symbol.
can anybody shed any light on that.
if this is so it should go the way of beards, birthdays, the cross, rock music, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.
Well, being gay, almost everything is a phallic symbol to me, hee hee.
I love beards since I am a bear. A bear is a big hairy, usually bearded man. Bears are a subculture of gay society. Lots of married bi guys are attracted to bears since they are typically masculine.

well as most of you know, when the society reorganized the governing body retired as officers, in fact the society itself is run by earthbound members.. .
recently two governing body members kicked the bucket, klein and swingle.
that leaves the jw's with just eleven governing body members, who spiritually feed the masses, while the other sheep run things.. however, six of the eleven are so old they don't even know what time of day it is, the other five are younger and newly.
You will see change to doctrines but not to the overall mentality. The witness structure is built on tight social control, relieving people of dealing with reality and providing people with a feeling of unearned superiority over others. These factors are what attract people to the witnesses and keep them there.

As a gay person I expect tolerance from those whom my life does not affect since I don't interact with them. So, as far as the general public goes I only ask for tolerance.
For anyone who wants to be part of my life in any meaningful way, I demand acceptance. If someone cannot accept me for the person I am, I have no real use for them as part of my ongoing life.
