An interesting talk with my father

my father left my mom and i when i was young, like before i was 5. so i didn't know him other than a couple images i had of him in my head.
i don't have any bad feelings towards him, even though he cheated on my mom and took 20 years to pay back child-support.

As Far as JW's and Thanksgiving go...
by OnTheWayOut init's one of the most confusing holidays to jw's.
it doesn't specify who to give thanks to, it's a u.s. holiday that is semi-patriotic and semi-religious but not necessarily either one.. i suppose jw's should go out of their way to avoid giving thanks this thursday so jehovah doesn't get pissed at them for being so slightly normal worldly and maybe accidentally smite them if armageddon starts this thursday..

I've seen JWs go all-out on Thanksgiving, and I've seen other JWs judge them for it. It is a confusing holiday for JWs; I remember trying to explain the reasons why we didnt' celebrate it. Not fun!
This year we will go to see my JW family and have a 'not Thanksgiving' turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I'm willing to put up with the hypocrisy because they're willing to tolerate an apostate in their midst. Everyone wins!
We go to my in-laws on Thanksgiving. My mother-in-law's point of view, "everyone has the day off and we can get together as a family". We have Thanksgiving dinner every year and I LOVE eating turkey with the fixings. We do not advertise it, since all in attendance are JWs....elders, MS, pioneers...

Bristol Palin and her typical black & white right-wing / religious mindset
by Simon inso, bristol palin is through to the final on dancing with the stars even though it's obvious to everyone with half a brain that she doesn't deserve to be based on her dancing.
she's there simply because the obsessive palin fundies are voting for her.. i thought it was interesting listening to her describe people who think she shouldn't be there as "the haters".. what black and white thinking and typical of the religious / right-wing mentality.
people can't have an opinion that is based on reality and see that better dancers were voted off while she stayed way past her skill level warranted.

Flying to Orlando tomorrow, my daughter is in the hospital
by coffee_black inmy daughter is in the hospital with pneumonia, and possibly a blood clot in her lung.
they'll be testing through the night...apparently, her heart is enlarged as well.
she is scared... and if her jw father catches wind of it, he will be there trying to intefere with her treatment... he lives close by to her, so i'll be flying down in the morning....to head him off at the pass.
