No more 3-day DCs starting in 2013?

apologies if there is another recent thread on this, but i have heard from 4 different people in 3 different geographic areas (including someone who does advance work for the dcs), that beginning in 2013 the three day dc program will be replaced by a second two-day circuit assembly.

some people were passing the info along like a secret, others seemed to think that everyone already knew.. if everyone in j-dub land is already talking about this, how is it not all over this forum??.

anyway, can anyone confirm or deny?.

I can guarantee you that moving the convention to an assembly hall won't make their ADA liability go away. Many assembly halls are not in compliance as it is now.

Strollers at DC

if i understand it correctly, strollers are not allowed at us conventions.. in sweden, a letter was written to the congregation, introducing this new rule.

however, quite a few families wrote letters to the society,.

asking if they wanted families with children to attend the assemblies or not... it was stated that they would not go unless strollers were allowed.. the society pulled back, allowing strollers in designated areas.. in norway, they didn t even bother to introduce the rule in the first place... .

This is a bs rule. Some venues have designated spaces for strollers at the back of the auditorium. As long as the stroller doesn't block any exit path or exit itself it should be ok. This is a sore subject with me. I have been to a boat show in the same arena as the convention. I had a delightful time rolling my kid around in the stroller. No problems then. I know some children's groups like the wiggles have played the venue, and I saw a picture of the many people with kids and strollers then.

The reason this makes me angry is the dillholes in Brooklyn making these stupid ass rules have never had to cart a cooler, a bookbag' and a three year old 1/2 mile from the parking garage to the center. Pricks.

Also there is the new rule that all delegates should come to the hotel to check in wearing their meeting clothes and badges. So this means that I have to get off work on Thursday, go home put a suit on make sure my wife and kid are dressed and then drive 4 hours to the convention city hotel. Just to check in! Again it is a classic case of dipshits who have never had to work secularly or have kids to take care of, making stupid ass rules. They sure are following Jesus example of making the "load light".

i'd like to hear from those who are currently elders or were formerly elders on your honest feelings about the charges brought against the society and their general policy in handling these matters.

do you think that the society handles child abuse accusations fairly?

or, do you think their policy is abusive?

@Sulla, They did direct us not to report the matter to the police but to instead leave it up to the mother.

The Conti judgement against them has been a long time coming. A few years back I had to handle a molestation case. The way the society handled it was appalling. They discouraged us as Elders from reporting it to the authorities and told us to neither encourage or discourage the mother of the victim to report it. (Fortunately she did)

All communication had to be done over the phone, they specifically asked us not to send any written correspondence to them about it. After the pedophile got out of prision the branch gave us specific instructions not to warn the congregation about him, and instructions that we were not to stop him from participating in the door to door work. (fortunately everyone pretty much knew the story)

The elder book gives explicit instructions that if you find out about abuse allegations your first step is to call the legal department. The fact that they want to be involved in it is for the sole purpose of covering it up and obstructing justice.

One of the reasons I resigned as an elder is because of this issue. I will never forget talking to the legal Dept about an abuse case and getting the instruction to neither report it, or encourage or discourage the mother of the victim to report it. The lawyer back there in Brooklyn even told me "SIAM always use the phone, never send written correspondence about the case to headquarters." I asked "why because you can't subpeona a telephone conversation?" the answer from Brother lawyer was .."....Um, (chuckle...) something like that"

These people are crooks. Their only interest is in protecting their reputation as God's sole channel on earth and they will do anything to keep that illusion in place.

This is the perfect time to pull out the letter from the Branch to the Florida BOE about the murderer who confessed. The question begs to be asked. " what other crimes are Jehovah's Witnesses hiding?"

What is next? More victims coming forward? Press on the toxic spill at the farm? An article on the sheer hypocrisy of the organization and how they require child molesters to go door to door?

It is funny how this site works. People lurk, they join, they post, and then they fade away because they have healed enough to focus on other positive things. That is pretty much where I am at. I have found that I am now in the “fading stage” in terms of my posting and honestly I don’t have a whole lot more to write about. My fade from the religion is just about over, and now its time to focus on more productive things.

I am forever in debt to many of you for your insightful posts and encouragement. There are some damn good writers and thinkers on this board as well as some pretty funny characters. I wish you the best as you cycle though the stages and come to peace with the terrible truth that Jehovah’s Witnesses are nothing more than another manmade religion twisting the scriptures to support their self proclaimed authority over 7 million other people.

I may return when I am “unstuck” out of the movement.
