Beta Male - If you are referring to Sign of the Last Days - NO, you should be able to find it for less than 10 bucks. It was written in the mid 1980's.

my family is still fixated on the 1914 date, simply because world war i started that year.. i told them i will agree it is a significant year in world history, but that the 1914 date as presented by jw's is based on lies and charlatanry.. i said "i think the wt really lucked out with 1914 with wwi starting that year - it keeps most jw's stuck on that date" .
the standard answer is "well, that was the year everything went haywire"...... let the circular reasoning continue .

recently, someone on here(i can't remember who) suggested the book, "who wrote the bible?".
i ordered it from amazon and my husband has read it and loved it.
it dealt mostly with the old testament.
My brother has read "Misquoting Jesus" and gives it a huge thumbs up.

my wife was reading a few bits of coc and she read most of gentile times reconsidered and she says she's not buying the dates anymore and i can tell she knows it's not the truth.
she is starting to feel depressed about it and is feeling "hollow" on the inside.
she said that you can't argue all the evidence that points to 586/7bc for jerusalem's destruction and you can't separate dates from wts dogma - she finally is getting it :) historians are making stuff up to cover up 607bc.
It sure sounds like a positive development.

the sept 15, 2010 wt on page 23 states :.
the anointed and their other sheep companions recognize that by following the lead of the modern-day governing body, they are in fact following their leader, christ.. what a pile of filth!!!!.
the only capitalized letters are governing, body, leader, christ.
Is this a new point? I thought this was their position all along.

i've been visiting this forum everyday, reading and waiting patiently for approval to post.
i've never been a jw.
my husband and daughter are.
Today - Welcome to the board. I'm sorry for the things you are going through and have been through.
Let me mention this one thing up front: You will probably never FULLY understand your husband's mindset, because you were never in this cult. You were never captive to the concept that God chose this organization and allegiance to this organization is more important than life itself. Only people that have been in this cult can truly understand the mindset. An outsider (non-JW) can gain an understanding of a lot of it, and it's evident that you do understand a lot about it - but just be aware that you will probably never FULLY understand his mindset. There nothing really you can do to change this, other than researching like you have already done - but this is just the way it is.
I also agree with the aforementioned recommended books - Steve Hassan: Combatting Cult Mind Control. It's a must read.
That being said, feel free to ask anything about the JW religion and our thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc that go along with it. Feel free to PM any of us. If needed we will even speak with you on the phone if you so desire.
Best of luck to you. I feel for you.

I recommend the book "Sign of the Last Days" by Carl Oloff Johnson. He completely debunks the mystery of wars, pestilences and famines. Once you get away from all the Watchtower BS, 1914 really isn't that special. There were worse wars than WW1 that occured prior to 1914. He firmly establishes this in his book. There were even world wars prior to WW1. He examines that facts on why it's called WW1. Very interesting!

ok, so i finally picked up coc from my local library last night.
and started reading it like crazy.
i think i read about 70 pages which brought me close to the end of the second chapter: "governing body".
Keep reading. The first 120 pages is pretty much his story.
Around pages 120 to 140 he starts with hard proof. False prophecies after false prophesies.
Much more to come buddy. Keep reading!

br.
pierce addressed the rising number of memorial partakers at the convention on sunday.. he said that many are asking why the number of partakers is going up year after year.. his response (paraphrasing): "it's none of our business.
it's jehovah's business".. in other words, shut up and keep your place.. 5th.
That's pretty much their stance on everything: "Shut up and believe us! Whether it makes sense or not, whether you like it or not. If you don't you are an apostate.."

Awesome. Just awesome!
I am hoping that I will be making a similar post one day when my wife awakens.
