There is satisfaction, however, in knowing that those who do the shunning feel as awkward as is humanly possible. Their blood pressure would rise significantly and they would be squirming, wishing like hell they could escape without you seeing them and certainly hoping like hell you say nothing to them. What does this suggest? That it is an unnatural, inhuman response, and carried out only because they are ordered to.

Here's an update to what has happened since I used the words, "Big News," five years ago
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/103353/1/the-news-is-bigger-than-dateline-bbc-cbc-etc.
as many of you know, i made the "big news" statement when kerry louderback-wood's scholarly article about watch tower's blood misrepresentation that was published in the journal of church and state was just about to be published.
i was excited about it because lives were at stake and weve never had such an article before to be able to use to show how the watch tower misrepresents the blood issue through its literature and people die because of it.

@Donuthole, I think that is their loophole, and I have heard it argued thus:
Q: Are JWs free to accept blood transfusions?
A: Yes. It is entirely up to their conscience.
Q: If they do, will the congregation impose any punishment or discipline as a consequence?
A. No. There is no need to. Once a JW accepts a blood transfusion and indicates they are not repentant, they have indicated by their actions they no longer wish to abide by the religion's fundamental beliefs. That means they have disassociated themselves and are no longer JWs.

Can you say plagiarism?
by Mebaqqer2 inso i ran across this statement today in doing some research:.
take, for instance, the stories and legends regarding the origin of man.
although details vary, the belief that man was made from the dust of the earth is widespread.

Back in the early 1990s something I'd written for another publication was reproduced in the Awake! (I cringe now when I read it). I was then invited to write an article specifically for Awake!. Hoarder that I am (I prefer to call it archiving) I still have the letter. I wrote back suggesting a topic, they wrote back with a letter laying out their demands for fact-checking: I had to detail every source for the story as well as a secondary source they could check. The letter included all sorts of tedious detail about the form in which the article had to be submitted. I took one look at the letter and thought, 'Up yours, that's too much trouble.'
If they were so fussy about the topic I suggested, it makes you wonder how they can be so sloppy about other articles. This one is an excellent example, but how about their mea culpa on the Ghandi quote I read so many times in WT literature I could practically recite it word for word.

CO's putting the screws on elder bodies, and ministerial servants to auxilliary pioneer this April.
by miseryloveselders ini have such a love/hate, 50/50 relationship with this organization any more, but a letter was read to the elders and ministerial servants that has pushed me to the 30/70 range in favor of hate, if even momentarily.
most of you if not all are aware of the auxilliary pioneering initiative for this upcoming april.
it's no secret that i'm not real fond of pioneering as its unscriptural for one thing.

MLE, do you worry that they'll ask you to step down as an elder if you fail to enrol? Does that worry you? It's always great on this board hearing your insights as an elder, but wouldn't it lessen your misery?

IS THE GOVERNING BODY NOW THE FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE?
by Vanderhoven7 in.
i know the anointed never get consulted.
but is it true that the governing body has modified the definition of the faithful and discreet slave to exclusively apply to themselves and to not include the thousands of other anointed..

Which would pretty well take the doctrine back to what Russell taught in his final years.

You realise they'll be dining out on that encounter for years to come. There's nothing like the frisson of excitement that comes from meeting a real apostate in the flesh.

The Governing Body is a loving provision and an example of faith worthy of imitation.
Who wrote those words in the 1998 WT?
The Governing Body.
Disappointing to see they missed the opportunity to describe themselves as humble as well.

Giving Number 4 talks and trying to make them interesting and relevant. (Except for when I had to give talks explaining things I didn't believe.)
How often does a loser like me get to have a room full of people sitting there forced to listen to every word I say without interrupting?
Here's a private fantasy: after I discovered it was all bullshit, I could have done one last No.4 talk and announced that I'd decided to do a talk based on Crisis of Conscience instead.

Oregon surgeon Osamu Muramoto wrote several excellent articles attacking WTS hypocrisy on blood transfusions and in particular the level of control over JWs and the level of information control.
In part 3 of that series (Journal of Medical Ethics, 1999), he noted the WT Society's false and hypocritical claim to the European Commission of Human Rights that JWs have "free choice" to receive blood transfusions "without any control or sanction on the part of the association." As Muramoto pointed out, a JW spokesman in the UK claimed on BBC radio, when challenged, that an unrepentant JW who received blood would be disfellowshipped not because they took blood, but because they abandoned the doctrine of the religious organisation.
Trickery. Cunning. Sleight of hand. Deception. Outright lies. Yep, God would use that organisation as his sole channel, no worries.

Something to say next time the Witnesses call.
by fadinfast ini have just read in these following paragraphs something that would disturb my conscience, notice:.
12 they also saw that there are but two organizations in the universe and that everyone belongs either to god's organization or to satan's, the latter on earth being composed of big business, big politics and big religion.
34 the world's political wild beast rules supreme under the name-number 666, while big politics, big religion, and big business keep that wild beast functioning as an oppressor of mankind and a persecutor of god's people.

At the top of my ever-changing list of what I'd say if they ever call again:
Y'know, I've been a member of many clubs over the years, and I'm always interested in new things. I've even been in different religions for a while. Now tell me, if I joined Jehovah's Witnesses and got baptised ... and then after a few years decided I'd had enough or decided it wasn't really for me after all, would it be OK if I stopped going?
They'd say: Of course not! No one's compelled to join or stay, so if you want to leave, you just leave!
What if I wrote a letter and resigned my membership? Would there be any consequences?
They'd say: Well, gee .... probably not ... (exchanging worried glances at each other). It depends ... on what you're doing, you're lifestyle, whether it's still in harmony with God's org- .... I mean, in harmony with God.
See, someone told me that if you quit, which is what you guys call, uh, disassociation, right? .... even if by then you'd become my best friend, you would never talk to me again. Never even say hello. Even if you wanted to, you wouldn't be allowed.
And someone told me there's this new Watchtower article that says that anyone who disassociates -- which would be me, because I'd just decided to move on -- is lawless and wicked and an unrepentant sinner. And no Jehovah's Witness would ever be allowed to talk to me again. Isn't that what the Scientologists do when someone quits, they harass them? Isn't that what Jim Jones did at Jonestown? Isn't that what cults do?
See, you come around my neighbourhood trying to get people to quit their religion and join yours, and you say people should be free to choose, but once they're in, you use this blackmail to force them to stay ... and try to cut them off from their friends if they go. Don't you think that's rather dishonest?
And since you've got your Bible in your hand, can you just show me the scipture where it says someone who leaves a Christian denomination is wicked and lawless and should never be spoken to again for the rest of their life? Can you show me where Jesus did that? I mean, if you do that, it's based on the Bible, right?
