How do they decide who is to be part of the Governing Body?
by Quillsky inso to be part of the faithful and discreet slave you just have to sip the wine on memorial night, right?.
then can you go up to brooklyn and say "i'm a member of the faithful slave and now i want to be a member of the governing body"?.
or how does it work?

Warning about your avatar
by Quillsky inif you're concerned about your privacy on the internet, i would like to give you a quick warning.. your avatar here, whether it is customized or a gravatar (the creature thing), is linked to your email address.
so if you comment on certain other sites with the same email address that you registered with here, the same image may appear.. for some it's not a big deal, for others it is.. i found this out, and decided to look into it further, when i saw my very same gravatar appear next to a comment i'd left on a friend's blog.. read more here......... http://en.gravatar.com/.

Instant dinner party
by Quillsky inhere's the scenario......... it's friday evening and you've arrived home from work, ready to enjoy the night at home watching a movie.
your home is averagely tidy and clean, your fridge and cupboards contain the food and drink they're normally stocked with, nothing special.. at 7pm the doorbell rings.
you open the door and two couples are standing there, friends of yours that two weeks ago you invited over for supper tonight.

Poor Lawrence Bullard in Cincinnati
by Quillsky ini dunno why i find this story funny, because it's also sad on many levels.. so almost a decade ago lawrence, a jw virgin, is engaged to this jw girl and he tries, unsuccessfully and pathetically (he clearly skipped seduction 101 in college) to jump her bones in a weird kind of way, calls the cops on himself........ fast forward to now, he's married to someone else but as a convicted sex offender he may only go out in field service once a month, instead of eight times a month as the religion, he says, requires.. http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/03/10/25418.htm.
witness/offender wants to go door to doorby kevin koeninger .
cincinnati (cn) - a jehovah's witness who was convicted of felony attempted sexual abuse has sued the state of ohio, claiming it unconstitutionally prohibits him from practicing his religion by proselytizing door-to-door more than once a month.. .

Facebook: Jehovah's Witness youngsters are vulnerable
by Quillsky ini'm a benign female that started a few fake facebook profiles when we were discussing facebook jehovah's witness groups here on jwn and playing with the jw groups.. what has truly astonished me is how many jehovah's witnesses, and mainly youngsters, teens, have wanted to friend me.
"me", the fake me.. watch your kids, parents.. this really is an important finding imo.
one of my fake profiles, a nice pretty non-existent witness girl, has over 300 young jw friends.

The sexual "morality" thing
by Quillsky inmy mother got involved with jehovah's witnesses in the 1960s/70s because mainly i think she didn't believe in the sexual "morality" or "immorality" of that era.
i believe she didn't see many other religions speaking out against sex before marriage and abortion.. and so she drew relatives and her own children down into the trap, the morass, the molasses, of anti blood transfusion and end-of-the-world clap-trap thanks to her well-believing sexual morality.. anybody else with family trapped because of the "morality" of jehovah's witnesses?.

Sunday School
by Quillsky inwhy don't jw's have sunday school for kids?
i don't want to give the cult any ideas, but it sure would help them to keep the families in, plus be more mainstream in the eyes of the public.. oh my god, the indoctrination you could do on little minds in sunday school, rather than the mind-numbing age-inappropriate stuff kids have to sit through in the watchtower study..

Cognitive Dissonance
by Quillsky inthe term cognitive dissonance is thrown around often on this forum, and rightly so, imo.
it has been discussed before and will be discussed going forward, but another thread made me realize that perhaps now is a good time to re-open the discussion.. in brief, cognitive dissonance is how our minds work to close the gap between our attitudes and what we believe to be true, and what we do and experience to be true.
our minds want to close that gap, or reduce the dissonance.. so if what we believe doesn't match with what we're doing, we shift our minds to close the gap.

I had a dream about being in a Kingdom Hall with undercover "apostates"
by Quillsky inlast night i had a vivid dream.
i was in a kingdom hall, not one i recognize, during a watchtower study.. not once in the many years since i left do i recall dreaming about meetings, field service, or anything jw-related.
so i'm sure that spending time recently on this site inspired the dream.. so i was sitting on the far right of a row near the front, near the door, with my mother.
