Conventions are already hard work for anyone who is infirm or who has young children. Every time they make these crazy arrangments some find it too much and don't attend. To ask people to travel these distances daily is cruel. When they stopped car parking at our local venue and insisted everyone travel by coach I refused to go, it forced the decision because we needed to be able to leave or find somewhere quet if the convention got too much for our son. People have different needs and need consideration, making arrangements that only suit the young, fit and single really shows who are important to them.

The survey relates to what is required to meet local expenses not how much each can contribute . So in theory this is how much is required to meet minor repairs and pay the bills whjich is something the accounts servant should already know.
If we are confused and have time to read and digest the letters then god help the congregation who have to make snap decisions after one quick reading.

I had a funny feeling he was a Witness... and now I need help.
by noontide inim in a bit of a bind and im not quite sure what (if anything) i can do about it.
i was recently hired as a business consultant for a rather large company.
the company that hired me mentioned that they are concerned about a certain department and the way its being run, as this department affects every other department in the company.

In this instance his religious affiliation is not grounds for action his behaviour is. In fact it is better not to mention religion in any written reports as this could be considered grounds for discrimination.
What is relevant is that although he has alot of knowledge he lacks drive and ability to motivate others.
As a director surely he could reschedule key meetings to ensure he is available the fact that he misses them but is not proactive is an issue. What is clear is that the job does not appear to be a high priority and this is manifested by his inflexible attitude to attendance. Does he expect others to work late to cover his absences? If so then this can build resentment. Is he unflexible about other people leaving for their commitments? Ask him what his priorities are and what is his vision for the department. What are his goals and plans, how does he cover meetings he doesn't attend? How does he communicate and motivate his department? As a director I would expect him to have vision and direction not just deal with day to day tasks. He should be improving the department and seeking to improve his skills as well. He should be communicating with other directors and coming up with ideas. The people who work for him will take their energy and perspective from him.
He is not a leader and therefore is unsuited to the role he finds himself in. He would be better in a singleton role where he has no subordinates.

i'm feeling sort of nervous, but also looking forward to it.
this will be our second scheduled session together, and we never did agree on a topic.. i'm assuming she will come with an agenda and another prepared presentation.

The main issue you have is that she is incapable of of listening to an altrnative perspective.
She refers to her belief as truth but offers no real evidence that it is true. She says her organisation is run by imperfect men but insists the material they produce is the ultimate explanation of what God wants.
Outreach is a noble idea but the people have to acknowledge they need help and be able to reason.

DF'ed and Confused...
by Stumbeline inso i think the title pretty much says it all.
i have a tendancy to be long winded about things, so i'll just give a general introduction and maybe tell things as i go along.
i don't even really know what i want from this site (ironically i remember jehovahs-witness.net mentioned from the platform as a site not to go to).

Welcome to the board. What you are experiencing is normal. Firstly disfellowshipping can be dependent on whether they wish to make an example of you and how much influence your family has in the congregation. Elders have also been encouraged to take a firmer stand on disfellowshipping resulting in even more people being expelled from the congregation than before.
We are taught that this only happens to bad people but this is not true. Just because some men judged you poorly it does not make you wicked or despicable. What it does demonstrate is that your mother and friends in the congregation are conditional on what you believe. They are not true friends and never have been. If you were to go back you will take a long time fitting back in you age gender and past status will affect your long term prospects.
Think for a minute where else would "almost having sex" be anything other than a private matter between the individuals concerned. You are 25 and not a child. You have been to college and you are smart and capable. Stop chasing a cult that wants to make you a miserable, downtrodden virgin and build a life for yourself where you use your judgement and common sense to be all you can be.
Move out and take each day as it comes. If a religion wants to take away your family and friends it has to be worthy of demanding that sacrifice. Trust me, do some research and you will discover it is not worthy not even close.

People in Twickenham will be more concerned about the disruption to the traffic they will not even be aware of the 100 year anniversary. Honestly if God could build the Earth in 6 days you would have thought he would have got a lot more done in 100 years.

All appointed men are being told they have to pioneer now!
by stuckinarut2 inyes, you read correctly..... all appointed men have been told in a new letter that they have to pioneer to "set the lead" whenever there is a "special" campaign month.
they use some scripture saying that these ones have to show by example.... so for any of us who are appointed and have learned ttatt, it is going to be very hard to fade during this time!.

This is all to look good. The E and MS have more personnal investement in this cult and therefore the most to loose. It is easier to apply pressure to this group. It also is made up of a number of individuals some of whom are elderly and infirm and for whom 30 hours is still a big ask. They are likely to feel the most pressure.
On the annual report there will be much talk of willing spirit and Jehovah's blessing when in fact it is coercion and control. In the past there was much emphasis on personal commitment and being moved by the spirit to do more. This has all gone if it was ever there in the first place. If appointed men feel guilty about not pioneering and step down this may create other issues since they have trouble getting men to take on the responsibility. This could be an own goal for the society.

The Fossil Record: vs God Allowing Pain & Suffering
by Shanagirl inwhat a man does with the fossil record tells a lot about his worldview.
is it the result of a world-covering deluge?
or did this sorry chronicle of pain, suffering, and death precede humans (and the reign of death) by millions of years?

An event after the Fall sufficiently accounts for the fossil record. That event was the Genesis Flood.

I do have issues when a debate ends up with generalisations on both sides. I would be grateful if people could cite sources when stating something is what most people are thought to believe. I think it is important to educate people on academic argument and the criteria for this rather than lazy personal opinions bandied about as robust researched theories.
If you are going to make a staement then the evidence behind that statement should be cited too. Otherwise it is just he said she said.

This article relfects what witnesses think happens but not what actually happens. There are enough victims to show that they do not protect the members from molesters just the organisation from bad publicity.
