As a brother, we would expect you to come to us first as the authoritative source for official information regarding the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society and the verity of its teachings and activities. while many jehovah's witnesses have been treated badly by the watchtower organization, many have had good experiences during their time as witnesses.
for several years starting in the 70s, the brooklyn home had a kind of "talent night," in this case it included an interview.
you think these are "grumbling apostates" who never enjoyed their time in the organization, watch and find out.. dan bell, a bethelite, told barb that "no one ever gets to see these "family nights" outside of bethel and gave barb a copy of this one on a vhs tape as a personal gift for them to share with others.
I've seen a Family Night video before.
It was far more engaging, entertaining, and clever than any "drama" I've seen at a convention.

The irony is, Santa Claus was actually based on a real person (Saint Nicholas). Half of WT teachings are based on absolutely nothing whatsoever except what happened to pop into Chuck, Joe, Nate, or Freddy's heads at random.

Yeah, this one really annoyed the hell out of me. More condescending "CLEARLY, these are not Scriptural teachings" we're-right-and-you're-not-just-wrong-but-stupid-jerks horse shit. God dammit, these things are matters of FAITH! FAITH! FAITH! Not FACTS! They can neither be proven nor disproven! Stop presuming to know God's thoughts! The Bible is not a mathematical equation or legal document!

It's a tough call. Personally, I believe that religion (not "spirituality" or "God" - you know the difference) should be kept the hell away from kids until they're old enough to somewhat maturely tackle some of life's tougher subjects (i.e. sex). But that's me. I still have to admit that a kid offering you a fairly inocuous tract is pretty damned cute.
I wonder if Brother Horny-For-Armageddon would say the same thing about a 7-year old being able to decipher the what, 10 pages of legalese regarding the no-blood-yes-blood insanity.
I've heard of kids as young as 6 getting baptized. I can tell you for a fact that one of our D.O.s said that kids as young as 7 could be eligible for baptism. His reasoning? "Can children as young as 7 answer the baptism questions? Many of them can." Of course, this is the same guy who said that if you don't Regular Pioneer you won't make it into the New System of Things.
Christ, how did I manage to bite my tongue around such people for so long?
