  THAT's why I'm pretty careful about what I say and don't give too many connecting details to anything. I've held myself back more than once so that I remain as anonymous as possible.

  @Koolaid-Man: If you want people to access the information, you have to make it easier. Most of us don't have 12 hours to hang out on the phone. I tried to listen to Johnny's part, but the player wouldn't let me fast forward. Break it down man, break it down. If you could isolate just his part of the call, that would be excellent.

  Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?

  been thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.

  also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.

  so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".

  I'm in the middle or end of a fade...not sure which. I haven't really attended a meeting for over a year, and was very sporatic prior to that. I attended a few funerals and the memorial in the last year. I'm a born in - who has never felt like I fit in once I was an adult. I was baptized at 16 even though I had strong doubts to please my mother. I do wish they'd acknowledge that some baptisms are not valid due to this kind of circumstance. *sigh*

  If I had it to over again, I'd likely not be baptized, but would be a curious, supportive observer. At any rate, unlike some, I'm not filled with too much anger. I just want to walk away quietly with my dignity in tact. I'm fading because as a 4th generation JW, all of my family is in. If it were not for my sweet 9 year old nephew whom I adore, and my grandmother whom I'm very close to, I'd probably just DA.

  I will attend the memorial this year, and attempt some of the summer assembly. I'll do enough to keep the wolves at bay. Eventually, I may be able to simply not go except for special occasions.

  I will say though, that it is tricky and I can understand those who don't have the patience for it.

  Thanks for this thread, btw, it has been very encouraging to see everyone's different experiences.

  Can you recommend some movies/videos?

  an ex-jw meetup group i attended just watchted worlds apart together and the host wants to do this type of thing more often.. i would love to see religulous, but the group would be divided on such a movie.. i suggested the documentary, jesus camp and september dawn.. do you have any suggestions i can pass along?.

  Even if an IP address is logged, most people don't have static IPs. So, I believe you can detect the general neighborhood of an IP address, but it doesn't tell you specifically who it belongs to. My IP address for example shows my neighborhood, but since I'm with Comcast it could be anyone in the area. When I look it up, it cannot even pinpoint my house.

  Now, if it was being done by police or law enforcement, I think they have to summon the IP provider to have them reveal the exact person's IP address and any activity logged. but I can't see the WTBS doing that unless there was good reason. I don't think a difference of opinion qualifies.

  Facebook: Local Ruling By Elders in Nearby Congregation

  just heard from a friend that a nearby body of elders in their congregation have decided that anybody who is on facebook will not be able to have privleges in their congregation.. hilarious!.

  pretty soon they're going to ban texting....the kids could have spread that information just the same through text messages.....the issue isn't the technology, it's the way people use it. If someone is going to do something inappropriate, they are going to do it regardless. "The technology made me do it" is not a valid plea.

  I asked my best friend how the GB makes its decsions last night...

  my best friend does not know about my recent mental defection from the watchtower, but i am having trouble keeping my feelings from him completely....so, last night, i asked my him if he thought the governing body was always in 100% agreement about every policy/doctrine decision they make.

  " i asked him how he thought they went about making those decisions and he said that, "they probably discuss it as a group, research it, read the bible together, and discuss it some more until they come to a conclusion...just like a boe would when deciding a judicial matter.

  " i said: "don't you think that if they were jehovah's 'mouth-piece' and they are indeed being guided by jesus christ and holy spirit, that there would be no doubt about what the right course of action is?

  Q1-why do Jews and Jewish hospitals see no problem with blood transfusions?

  @Moshe: I asked a business associate of mine, who is a practicing orthodox jew about this, and her response was that saving a life trumped everything else. So, despite the fact that they maintain a kosher home, observe sabbath and all high holy days, they would if it came down to it accept a blood transfusion. I don't believe they would see it as a violation of their obedience to any of the laws or traditions and if they did, I would expect there is some sort of act of contrition that can be performed to correct the situation.

  How Important is knowing the Truth, Really?

  is the quest of trying to find out worth the risk and the sacrifice of losing the love of friends and family?

  oh, i know many of you will say the "love" is fake or not true if it can't hold up to scrutinty.

  I think that the lazy, stupid, or incompetent people are able to justify their impotence with the "waiting for the New System" or "waiting onJehovah" mantra that they use for comfort. As for me, I take no comfort in having my life put on hold, and frankly, find it quite depressing.

  Is there a serious weakness in the Watchtower Society's legal position?

  the watchtower society is good at intimidation.

  it uses fear to maintain control of it's members, including fear of being destroyed at armageddon and fear of shunning and being rejected by family and friends.

  they even try to intimidate former members by threatening them with lawsuits over copyright issues, as an example.

  It is interesting to me that to sue a fellow christian is a disfellowshipping offense, but for the WT to sue a disfellowshipped person for whatever legal reasons is permissible. Strikes me as sort of absurd.
