Meaningless Handshakes
by JH inthe first time i set foot in a k.h., i was surprised by the numerous handshakes being given here and there.
it looked unreal.
so many smiles and they seemed so sinceer.

It is now 2003.... Where is Armageddon?
by Nosferatu ini find it extremely amusing how each year is passing without armageddon.
"for the year 2000, i visualize a world transformed into a beautiful paradise!
but i don't think that either the present world or its rulers will live to see that day.. we are living in the last days of the system of things.

Upcoming Surgery and Blood
by HeyThere ini am a newly unbaptised publisher.
recently i found out i need to have major surgery and the jw's tried to rush a blood card in my hand.
i was so relieved when the elders said i could not have one until i was baptised.. but they rushed to get me copies of the blood videos.

My Story
by XJW4EVR ini was adopted into a jw family in southern california.
my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).
she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.

Brooklyn Bethel in the 1940 census
by dissonance_resolved inprompted by another post, i looked up 124 columbia heights in the 1940 census.
a few interesting things: all occupants are listed as having the profession of "sell- religious books," except rutherford who is listed as an "editor.
" odd that they aren't listed as ministers.. also, all the educational levels of the occupants were provided- many had not even graduated high school and some not even grammar school.

I understand you could become an attorney with on the job training and an exam. So several years working under a lawyer and some kind of certification. Correct me if I am wrong.

An Astonishing Gap In My Knowledge.
by Englishman inparents converted to dubdom 1954.. commenced door knocking 1956.. baptised yankee stadium assembly 1958.. running 3 bible studies 1965.. giving public talks in many different congregations 1966.. ministerial servant, 2 jobs, 1966.. disfellowshipped 1972.. learned, via friday on h20, that the faithful and discrete slave class is the term used for the 144, 000 on earth, 2002.. during my entire witness life, commencing in 1954, right though until 2002, a time span of 38 years, i had always thought that the faithful and discrete slave term applied to the watchtower bible and tract society.. either i wasn't a very good student who's heart was never in the ways of jw's, or i was just picking up the general gist of things, i have no idea.
but, how could i have remained so uninformed and so undetected for all of those years?.
weird.. did you ever get it wrong about anything?.
