  This certainly applies to many former JWs.

  The opposite applies to people like the GB and others who benefit from keeping up the facade.

  I received an email from Ray Franz

  i have read on this site that if you write to ray, he will reply.

  i was skeptical about this, so i wrote him about how much i appreciated reading the book crisis of conscience and thanked him for his time and effort in writing and documenting his experiences in bethel.

  after a few weeks with no reply, i thought that i would never get one.

  It's really cool that you received a response. The man deserves nothing but respect and admiration. A genuinely good human being. The way that he is viewed by JWs who know who he is but nothing more, is truly appalling.

  others had commented on the latest shift of the interpretation of this generation.

  as you recognize this allows for an unending extension of time and likely stems from an awareness of the approach of the year 2014 marking 100 years since the date of 1914.. .

  I appreciate your viewpoint... just can't bring myself to believe right now. Maybe someday I'll find a spirituality that fits...

  Evidence against the bible being the word of god or the gb being god's channel on earth don't seem to matter much.

  The bible is the word of god because it says so.

  The gb is god's appointed channel on earth because it says so.

  Everything else is lies, lies, lies.

  Yes, they are good! Just share one between several people and you'll be fine. And don't even think about taking any home for later. They are horrible when re-heated.

  we all regardless of our spiritual beliefs have in common a past damaged by brain washing and mind control.

  there is no doubt that our mental health has been affected to different degrees.

  but we usually go and continue our life trying to patch the injuries on our own.. one of the reasons we find it so difficult to deal with the world is precisely that.

  I would highly recommend it. Just be prepared to teach the therapist about life in the JW cult. Many have little or no experience with this.

  Circuit Overseers

  some circuit overseers leave lasting impressions either for good or bad.

  others i barely remember.

  three that had the most impact on me were rodricks (that's how it's pronounced, not sure of the spelling), casino and shepherd.

  Need some support

  i don't post very often but i'm in need of some support.. i left my husband and the jw's back in the summer.

  we have 3 kids and have joint custody of them.. i've spoken to my family once - back in the fall and it was a great conversation - my parents (dad is an elder) said that they just wanted me to be happy however that is.. last week i got a voicemail from my mom saying that she loved me and thought about me every day.

  i was so happy.

  Hang in there Jen! Things do get better with time. I agree with those who say that you must set boundaries. There is no excuse for verbal abuse and browbeating.

  JW mom has limited contact with me these days

  my mom has been a jw since 1970. my dad, who died in 1994, became a dub in 1971. i have told parts of that story elsewhere on the board.. my mom remarried a couple of years later to a non-jw.

  my stepfather and i get along very well, despite his background (cussin', former hell's angel, former navy seal, smoker)...generally quite rough..but underneath a decent guy.. i just called down to my mom's today...about 11am... stepdad answers.... where is my mom?

  he says: "out doing her thing..." i say: "oh, you mean door knocking?

  I feel you, man. My parents are also stepping up their "activity" as they age. They are also starting to distance themselves from me. I'm sorry for what you're going through - it is altogether too common, but always hard.
