Looks like the WTS is losing its best and brightest.
Like many on this list, I'm a design professional - an architect. -

What's in it for the Governing Body?
by dissed infor many jw's, they point to the gb as wonderful examples of zealous, humble, older men that are only serving jg for right and correct reasons.. unlike many of the preachers we see on tv, they are, and this is the important point, 'not in it for the money'.. of course we see them differently on this site, exposed many times over, as being self-serving hypocrites.. but if you want to win-over a jw doubter, this is one of the questions you have to answer.
"what's in it for the gb member?
why are they doing this if not for the money?".

It is a real 'delusion of grandeur' situation.
I agree, at least based upon what I have learned about them. At first, the Governing Body had next to no real power, compared with the President. The GB itself pushed for more authority during the 70s. So their having lots of power and prestige and authority is a relatively new phenomenon. It is what they wanted, and they got it.

I see the continuing trend of viewing non-JWs, not as individuals, but as a mass of iniquity deserving of death. How nice.

My experience with the JW's and more...I'll try to make it short.
by ConnieD29 inwell i guess the thing to do here is to kinda tell your story so that is what i'm going to attempt to here.
even though it makes me a bit nervous.. my experience with the jehovah's witnesses was short compared to lots of people here.
i was only involved for about 3 yrs.

Breaking News:Dah Watchtower Left Out The Zeros
by metatron ini was excited as i flipped thru my copy of the 2010 yearbook of jehovah's witlesses - as i wanted to get to the (dubious) statistics presented therein and, to my amazement, what did i find?.
you see, while the glorious grand poohbahs and masters of time and space (are the 144,000 time lords like dr.
) honestly report negative publisher 'gains' for tiny islands ( that saw a decrease because 2 or 3 gilead grads got amoebic dysentery and had to leave to 'take care of their elderly relatives' or some other 'god, get me out of this hellhole' excuse) they now leave a blank space for denmark, czech republic and so on.

Interesting! Does anyone have a scan of the report? I haven't made it to the hall to pick up my yearbook...

Jerusalem destroyed 607 or 586/7?
by isaacaustin inlet's try this again...most of us are aware that all available evidence points to the time of jerusalem's destruction at the 586/7bc time frame.
overwhelming evidence includes astronomical phenomena, achaeological evidence, bank records, the bible itself.. some hold to 607bc, for obvious reasons- the implications it has.
thoughts on how this would effect the average witness if forced to conclude 607 is wrong?

Hi Mark, and welcome!
No offense intended to any believers on this site, but... looking at that web site caused a strange new thought to occur to me: People sure do put a lot of time and effort into the scholarly study of fiction. Historical fiction, perhaps, but fiction nonetheless. But then, I guess it shouldn't surprise me. People also put a lot of effort into learning to speak fluent Klingon, or Tolkien's Elvish languages; people put a lot of effort into being experts on a myriad of fictional civilizations and histories.
Again, no offense intended. Just a small personal revelation

Superbowl Party and the Generation
by treadnh2o ini am going to a superbowl party with four generations of my family in attendance.. the oldest member (my grandmother) was not yet alive in 1914. the youngest is a week old.. i am so temted to make a big deal of how ridiculous the wbts is when it claim that my grandmothers mother, who nobody there has ever met, is of the same generation as the newborn.
if they have not read the april wt they would all argue against this and i would be accused of indulging in too much alcohol.. if they know this came from the gb, they would 100% agree and argue the merit of this.. this situation is so accurate i am sure many of you can imagine sitting in the room listening to the two scenarios.. seriously, how can so many people be blinded by this cult?.

It's pretty ridiculous, of course. What the GB says is Truth, when they say it. If something is true before they say it or after they abandon it, it still isn't Truth. And if it is false when they say it, then it is Truth. Truth Truth Truth.
Hey, speaking of the Super Bowl, do you think that anyone in Jehovah's Clean Organization should be watching it? After all, there will probably be nachos, wings, chili - all very messy foods. Unless maybe you can have fractions of those foods. So, maybe if you eat the wings and bbq sauce separately, or the chips, cheese, and salsa....sorry for the tangent, it just came to me

It is eye-opening, with lots of "eureka!" moments. Also, some heart-wrenching moments. And yes, the lack of rancor on his part speaks volumes.

I'm Out
by Cthulhu inwednesday night i recieved a call from both the coeb and the kingdom hall.
i didn't answer.
yesterday i called him back and i was informed that unless i wanted to talk to the brothers they had determined that my actions spoke for themselves and that i had by those actions disassociated myself.
