Another point missed by oblivious JWs - this week's Book Study
by sir82 inthis week's lesson for the book study covers chapter 4, paragraphs 18-24 of the "come be my follower" book.. in paragraph 24 we find this snippet:.
"...many have stood firm in the face of ridicule, persecution, arrest, imprisonment, torture, and even death.
where do imperfect humans get such courage?

An incredibly narrow and selfish worldview.

Thank you, Mad Sweeney
by Yan Bibiyan inin the course of studying the many falsehoods of jws, the subject of logical fallacies has come to my attention a number of times.
i largely ignored it as something in my opinion "too dry" to dive inito.. boy, was i wrong.. mad sweeney posted a link to a website explaining a number of fallacies in plain language (often with religious examples; wonder why .
once i started reading upon it, the wts use (or violation) of just about every fallacy from the list jumped at me as visible and distinct as black against orange.. thank you, mad for unknowingly giving me my new interest in the theory of logic and reasoning and further debunking the wts bs.. for the curious, here it is: http://www.logicalfallacies.info/.

Isn't it interesting? I remember seeing a post from a few years ago with several examples of logical fallacies in WT literature that really opened my eyes. Using faulty logic doesn't necessarily mean someone is wrong, of course - that person may simply not know how to construct an argument. But the persistent and pervasive manner in which it is used in WT literature raises a lot of red flags in my mind.
I recently dove into logic and reasoning and got a copy of The Elements of Reasoning. It's a nice primer and reference, and not intimidating.

You may not have read the Apologist version of 607 b.c.e.
by Terry injerusalem 607 bce vindicatedapostates and other opposers argue that jerusalem was not destroyed in 607 bce, but in 587 bce, and provide what they claim is archaeological evidence to support this.
read this chapter.... 5: servitude to the king of babylon for 70 years?.
read this chapter.... 9: the 70 years for tyre.

Only Jehovah's Witnesses argue that Jerusalem was not destroyed in 587 BCE, but in 607 BCE, but can provide no archaeological evidence to support this.
First sentence corrected. They can thank me later.

Darwin's Theory of Universal Common Ancestry Confirmed
by leavingwt infirst large-scale formal quantitative test confirms darwin's theory of universal common ancestrysciencedaily (may 17, 2010) more than 150 years ago, darwin proposed the theory of universal common ancestry (uca), linking all forms of life by a shared genetic heritage from single-celled microorganisms to humans.
until now, the theory that makes ladybugs, oak trees, champagne yeast and humans distant relatives has remained beyond the scope of a formal test.
now, a brandeis biochemist reports in nature the results of the first large scale, quantitative test of the famous theory that underpins modern evolutionary biology.. the results of the study confirm that darwin had it right all along.

Close Encounters of the JW Kind...
by Jim_TX inthis morning (like many other mornings) i went to the local 'stop-n-shop' to get my wife a pint - of milk.
she likes to drink a bit of milk during the day.. anyway, on my way back to the vehicle - as i got in and was reaching for the key to start it up... an elderly lady (well... probably about my age - sheesh!
) with grey hair, approached my car with a handfull of magazines - and said something along the lines of.... 'pardon me sir,...'.
