i believe that if a non regular meeting attender shows up for at least the memorial "celebration", it's a sign, that possibly, the person is saveable.
not all hope is lost for them.. i heard that last year, the rumour was that i was going to show up and sit with my mother....(of course, that never happened).. so, if you attended or if your family member or wayward friend showed up, they might have a chance for everlasting (earthly) life, after all!.
Anyone who has awakened to TTATT and conscientiously left the organization--especially a once-prominent individual from a prominent multi-generational tribe of JWs after decades of devout, high-profile "serve-us"--- who continues to put in an annual appearance at the Memorial thoroughly subverts and undermines, by this one act, a ny hope s/he may entertain that his/her departure will stir former "friends" to question the whole Watchtower bamboozle. By this one concession s/he assigns him-/herself by every single JW to their handy and dimissive purgatory: " spiritually-weak."
Nothing blasts a louder, clearer, and more deliberate message to the JWs who personally know you and those familiar with your JW bona fides that you are not merely "not making the meetings" or "spiritually-weak" but that you have conscientiously rejected the entire Watchtower Society swindle than choosing to forego what they know you know to be their one-and-only holy and sacred event of the year, the Lord's Evening Meal. Such a disregard cannot be mistaken.
Conversely, every appearance you continue to make at the Memorial allows JWs to confirm that they're right and, thereby, superior and that you are one to be judged and looked down upon because you couldn't/didn't cut it. It says "I'm not 'spiritually-mature' enough to make the weekly meetings regularly or to go out in field service, but I know this is The Truth so I must attend the Memorial." You hand them the very justification they so relish to self-righteously ridicule you later as a "submarine Witness."
Attending the Watchtower's Lord's Evening Meal is a colossally misguided step for anyone whose intention or desire it is to stir others to consciousness.

Citing the public's right to know how the Archdiocese of Los Angeles handled child sex abuse allegations, a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge reversed a ruling by a private mediator and ordered the redacted names of archdiocesan employees to be released.
Times reporter Harriet Ryan will join L.A. Now Live at 9 a.m. to discuss Judge Emilie H. Elias' ruling and what may be in the 30,000-page cache of internal archdiocese records, which are set for public release in coming weeks.
The live chat is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Elias reversed a private mediator's decision that the names of archdiocese employees should be redacted from the documents to avoid further embarrassment to the church and "guilt by association."
Elias said the public's right to know how the largest Roman Catholic archdiocese in the nation handled molestation allegations outweighed such concerns. She also reversed the ruling of the mediator, retired federal Judge Dickran Tevrizian, that priests who had faced a single allegation of abuse would have their names blacked out.
"Don't you think the public has a right to know … what was going on in their own church?" she asked a lawyer for the archdiocese. She said that parishioners who learn from the files that a priest was accused of abuse in their local church "may want to talk to their adult children" about their own experiences.
The records — confidential personnel files that include psychiatric records, investigative reports, parents' letters of complaint and Vatican correspondence — are being released as part of a 2007 settlement between the archdiocese and more than 500 victims.
Lawyers for the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press had filed court papers arguing that the names of the hierarchy were essential for the public to understand how the scandal occurred. More than 200 priests were accused of abuse stretching back decades and the church, its insurers and others paid more than $720 million to settle claims.
The timing of the files' release is unclear. Hennigan said church lawyers might have to revisit every page of the records to restore the names of archdiocesan officials, a process that could take months. Lawyers for the church, the alleged victims and the media are to work out procedures for the release in coming days.

i've just read at a spanish forum for ex-jw that the wt has cooked a new light article series about social celebrations, including birthdays and aniversaries.
according to a member of this forum 'in short' the wt will let witnesses to decide by 'their bible trained conscience' either they celebrate birthdays or not.
is this rumor based in some real facts or it's just bullshit?.
outsmartthesystem:
Moreover, witnesses all celebrate and attend baby showers, no? Is a baby shower not the celebration of the birth of a child?
God does not forbid a party to celebrate the "birth day" of a child before it is born, while its exact equivalent celebrated annually after the child is born is offensive to Him!
Every single ritual and tradition that comprise the baby shower becomes the sum total of what comprises a "birth day" party (even after said "baby" has accumulated a substantial number of such celebrations!): guests, presents, games, food, cake, assorted merry-making activities.
Not only is it not scripture-based, but it is nonsensical and, frankly, an insult to the intelligence of any thinking JW to be expected to gullibly swallow that the ludicrous prohibition against birth day observances---before or after a person's birth date has arrived--- proceeds from God and not simply the hindquarters of WT Corporation Pharisees for the cynical purpose of brandishing of their power over intimidated little JWs whose fear and worship they demand.

JRR---
Don't sweat the criticism. In true WT-like fashion you're viewed suspiciously and "post-aly-weak" here if you don't "comment" enough times.
Thanks for the nugget. Time will tell if it truly is something the leadership is floating.

Not as incredible as might be immediately thought. The "rumor's" being posted in a Spanish-language forum, imo, lends credibility to its possible legitimacy given that it was a brazen and cynical act of appeasement of Latino JWs and their cultural traditions that caused the WTS to go the so-called conscience matter route when it disconnected the pinata in its modern-day celebrations by "true" Christians from its pagan origins. Best not quickly dismiss what the organization might feel under duress to allow---albeit in weasely-worded, escape-clause language to selected audiences---in order to staunch the hemorrhaging.

i can't believe i'm actually posting here.
i've been lurking for a while and i've been having doubts about this being the "truth" for years and sometimes feel really stuck and hopeless about my situation.
i'm married to an elder (who is 110% jw) and i was for the most part raised in the "truth".
SickandTired,
I was an active baptized JW for 29 years, an elder's wife for 25 of them---a 100% believing, much-beloved, extremely "prominent," highly-regarded company man, valued and used extensively both locally and by HQ---up until 2001 when, after years of wrestling with myself and God, I gave in to the monumentally difficult but conscientious conclusion that had haunted me for years: that I could not and would no longer promote the faith to others nor remain connected with it myself. I didn't disassociate, I didn't fade, I simply ceased all of it all at once---attending any weekly meetings, engaging in field service, attending assemblies, conventions and, most significantly, the Memorial. Though it hasn't been easy, especially in the early years following my decision, my husband and I have remained married. While he has continued active with the JWs, he was immediately deleted as an elder for not "presiding over his household in a fine manner." Not surprisingly, I was the "household" over which he was not presiding properly. Since my exit in 2001 I've only set foot in a Kingdom Hall on 3 occasions---all funeral/memorial services. I have no association with JWs whatsoever any longer, with the exception of the rare occasion of my husband's and my invitation to one of his family's "gatherings."
In the last several years since my departure my husband has been solicited repeatedly to "serve" again as an elder, however, he himself now has too many of his own misgivings and doubts regarding the organization to conscientiously teach and enforce the many of its doctrines and dogma in which he no longer believes himself. How ironic that his being removed as an elder after having served faithfully and conscientiously as either the congregation servant or presiding overseer since he was 20 years old was the very event that for the first time ever afforded him the reprieve from the whirlwind of responsibilities he needed to pause and truly consider all that he'd unquestioningly accepted as "truth" for so many years.
Once he did, he began to recognize that much of his devotion was really just to rote habit and routine, duty and administration; that much of what he accepted on faith was, upon contemplation, unchallenged WT puffery. Much to my delight---and because he never, ever craved, sought or defined himself by his innumerable WT "privilileges of service"--- he took to his new stress-free life and freed-up schedule like a paroled prisoner. Never in his adult life had he such possession of his own life and schedule. He's even acknowledged that once you either step off or are pushed off the treadmill of JW's exhausting busy-ness, it's like a fog you never knew existed miraculously lifting from your thinking. Though his pride impels him to offer some token defense of certain aspects of JW indoctrination to cover for his own continued involvement, he never does so with anything remotely approaching real conviction and even sometimes permits himself to join me in chuckling at the absurdities.
His maintaining active status with the Witnesses over the past decade appears to be driven mainly by two difficult realities: 1) the investment with them of all but the first 13 years of his nearly 6 decades of life--- doggedly in the face of what he himself now readily concedes is its abysmal record of self-congratulatory claims, blasphemously-arrogated authority, and notoriously-failed prophecies---repeatedly, over many decades; and 2) the fact that his few remaining family are still, nominally at least, believing members. Obviously neither reason is based in his confidence in the organization or his faith in its teachings, a gradual development that would at one time have been unfathomable for this once-lockstep adherent.
All this is to say that there is nothing you are feeling or experiencing with which I cannot completely empathize. Unlike you, however, the worst of it for me was having absolutely no one in whom to confide or from whom to seek counsel as my most persistent, agonizing doubts and reservations finally broke through my mental blockades in the mid-90s--- during what was the embryonic stage of the internet and well before the emergence of the Web. I speak from tragic personal experience when I warn you that that kind of emotional and psychic suppression and isolation are a ticking time-bomb that eventually, but most assuredly, detonates, often causing lasting, irreparable damage to your physical health. I do not recommend it. I wish to leave you and other "sisters" in your quandary who may be reading this a word of advice: If you become convinced that the religion of the WT is not the true worship it is advertised to be, you must not delay planning and executing your exit. The younger you and your children are when you make the break, the greater the odds of your achieving the happy, successful life you and they desire and deserve. The persistent regret I have is that even after I strongly doubted the religion to be "the truth," I remained another 10 years trying to re-dedicate myself to it, fervently praying for something in me or it to change. By the time I could no longer endure the agony (and had started to suffer some alarming health symptoms), I had squandered a valuable window needed to reprogram my young child, had unprofitably delayed academic and professional pursuits, and had neglected nurturing critical relationships and laying foundations for our post-JW life. I cannot urge you strongly enough to learn from my experience.
Best of luck to you and others in similar predicament. Of course, if you make smart decisions, you won't need to rely on luck. AMNESIAN
there are two parts to this topic you can read one or the other or both if you want, i just figured i post this for differents ones who might being going thru what i am going thru i tried to write this as quick as possible so everything i am posting here is not to offend anyone i know everyone has the own opinions on different things so you can disagree or agree, but this is where i stand.
sorry for any spelling errors or grammar issues up front.
my story .
"His meetings start at 7? Not any hall I've every been to." For most of my 29 years in I attended both the TMS/SM and BS at 7:00 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays respectively--never Tuesdays and Thursdays, never 7:30. The PT/WT study was 10:00 Saturday morning, not Sunday, not 9:30. Am I a troll? No. And when I lie it's about stuff that matters. AMNESIAN Captive 7/72-2/2001

while an earlier version was made available privately the time has come to 'progress'.. conscious class and ex both strongly adhere to not keeping things 'hidden' in regards to wts publications, talks and documents which are circulated in order to maintain it's position.. another wonderful poster (who has yet to give me permission to name) has 'reduced' and 'bookmarked' the first full copy link i was given by our 'winner'.. in this newest and final 'clean' copy link you find two other additions besides the reduction/bookmarking..... the brother who uploaded the entire book wishes all to have a copy that includes both boe ltrs (pre-ks ltr and spiral binding ltr).
also another development has occurred.... the brother responsible for this book being brought into light and put forth for public consumption and discussion has requested i post this letter explaining to 'us' (jwn posters/global audience) and 'them' (wts of penn & ny).. i ask you give attention to his words/ experiences as he is representative of a newly emerging demographic within the conscious class.
so without further ado i give you his link and the 'stage' if you will to 'brother johnson'....... [link removed - contact ynot for further info - lady lee].
