Good points Void....I really agree with much of what you said.
He has put out a lot of albums that I was disappointed in also....he got very "streaky" after his amazing start.
Self Portrait is a great example - that is such a weak effort, especially coming off of what might be my favorite album, Nashville Skyline.
(I hate to say I have a favorite since everything before Self Portrait is totally brilliant IMO)
He really blew his rep in the late 70's and 1980's I thought by "mailing it in" on more than a few albums. Even those albums have some treats though, just due to the immense talent he has. Some of the albums are like, "Cmon Bob, you are SO much better than that" - I have the same feeling toward Lennon, some of the albums were pretty spotty considering the brilliance you know they were capable of.
One thing that I am grateful for is the last 4 albums - they have been a breath of fresh air to me. (Excluding the Christmas album )
Time out of Mind and Love and Theft can stand up there with some of his greatest works....the songs are just fantastic.
The producer, Jack Frost really did a great job - of course JF is Dylan - I think he really found his latter day sound by working with Lanois (as you mentioned Oh Mercy)
"Cold Irons Bound", "Make You Feel My Love", "Mississippi", "Honest With Me" - those are just great tunes.
I'm just glad he is bookending his career with some top notch music.
Great Stuff! I love discussing music.....

how many of you started out down this road as someone who knew there were lots of problems and holes in the doctrine of the religion but wanted to be "part of the solution" as what i would call a "reformer"?.
for a long time, i wanted to be an outstanding elder since i thought so many of them were @$$holes, but i found out after a while the majority of the good ones are chewed up and spitten out in the organization.the others who start out with the right motives either fall in line or get run over.. unfortunately, i kept that delusion up for many years - and just about killed myself doing it.
thats when the light went on and i finally figured out why i was so miserable doing it - it was all for naught - you cant change it.
You can't shine shit.
Why does it take us so long to figure that out?????
The only thing that gets "reformed" is your sanity.
this is spinning out of control!.
by andrew taylor, associated press writer 36 mins agowashington the democratic-controlled senate has muscled through a plan to allow the government to go a whopping $1.9 trillion deeper in debt.. the party-line 60-40 vote was successful only because republican sen.-elect scott brown has yet to be seated.
sixty votes were required to approve the increase.
Thats OK, we just print more money whenever we need it!
what do Americans have to show now for every one of us OWING the government $45,000?
Well, you can download the WT for FREE from the society..............

Unfortunately, I kept that delusion up for many years - and just about killed myself doing it. Thats when the light went on and I finally figured out why I was so miserable doing it - it was all for naught - you cant change it. I was serving men and not God. I was tired of hearing "Wait on Jehovah", "Things will change, but it takes time", etc.......It all came down to simple politics and who was in positions of authority.
I know a few friends who as "sisters" in the congregation did the same thing for the ministry - there were problems and squabbling among the pioneers, a few divas who thought that the world revolved around them, and yet my friends would be "well, I want to go out and be supportive of the others, so they have someone to work with" and they decided to pioneer. Of course, my friends all quit pioneering and were beat up and dejected by the end.
I guess that I am curious at how long some of you stuck it out thinking despite all of the crap that it was still the "truth", and when did you realize that nothing would change? That it was all, as Ray Franz said, "A Myth"?

In my not so humble opinion, women are the stronger sex. We handle crap that reduces a man to a puddle.
Oh yeah Dinah, how much can you bench press? LOL
seems like work to me....... doing the microphones, manning the magazine counter, spending countless (sorry, counted) hours every month knocking on doors.. privileges?.
Snowbird hit it right....
Its also WT speak to get men in the congregation to do stuff that absolutely nobody wants to do......
1) Its a privilege to stay after the meeting 45 minutes to count $50 worth of donations.
2) Its a privilege to deal with the nightmare of putting service groups together.
3) Its a privilege to have countless talks every week at the TMS and SM.
4) Its a privilege to deal with the constant petty BullS--- bickering that is ever present in a KH.
5) Its a privilege to HAVE to be out every weekend in circus "taking the lead"
God I miss those days.............NOT! LOL
when i was a braindead dubbie we used to say "there are no jehovah's witnesses in prison.
" of course, that was true, but once again as jws are so fond of doing, it was also a lie by omission of fact.
as soon as a criminal jehovah's witness was convicted, he was disfellowshipped.
Well, I know of several prisoners who were baptised in prison, and are still there......
They studied with an elder I know.
I only know of 2 cases where the people were sent to prison and not disfellowshipped.....
Both were consciencious objectors during Vietnam.
Hasnt there been some abuse cases where the congregation did not disfellowship due to the lack of 2 witnesses rule, but the courts convicted them?
