Since 7/18/2010Thanks Brother Dan, Amen to that brotha! But if I ever told the elders I was a lesbian, I dont know how they would act.
It will not go well. When my son was "found out" they hunted him down like no other. He was never even baptised. Even though the elders were supposedly the only ones who knew about it, the whole circuit knew in a matter of 2 wks. My son refused to talk to them about it. He is shunned by the witnesses just as if he were disfellowshipped. Unless they are sellling something, then it doesn't seem to matter. He just doesn't acknowledge them anymore, just as they don't acknowledge him.
I haven't read all the posts yet, if you are living at home, I'd not mention it until your out of there and remember their reaction , while wrong, is still out of love for you and they are trained to believe that their shunning you will help you. If you need to talk feel free to pm me. I was your parents once, now my son & I are the best of friends.
As far as the topic goes, No you don't have to obey the fds. They like to say they follow the example of the "jeruselem counsel" however, if you read the context, you'll find that the apostles went to this counsel to correct the their thinking about the circumcision being a requirement for salvation.

'We only do what the BIBLE says' --- Separating the Bible from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of NYC
by Joliette ini'm in the dawn of my research, and the #1 thing that i am trying to do, is separate the bible from the watchtower and bible and track society.. me and my dad got into a dicussion, and he said that the witnesses are only doing what the bible says.
he said to read the bible (especially the new testament) and it would all come clear to me, why jehovah's witnesses are the truth.
i said 'then what about all of the misleading, and predictions that never came true?

So go ahead and read the Nt without the watchtower. As soon as you see descrepencies from wt teaching, make a note of it and show him. "Dad I did as you said and look at what I found". Dont expect it to sink in, but it will be in the back of his mind for sure.

I only learned about the "green handshake" after I had been a witness for 20 years, gossip brother so & so , book study conductor scolded us after a Co visit. The Co said we were the stingyist congregation he had been to. I said "how was I suppose to know? I thought our donations to the world wide work took care of him and everytime they are here, they need eye glasses or something, we vote on it (which the answer is always , yes) and they get what the need."The brother got mad and told our group, "well now you know."

Looking back I Missed out on a lot
by lil.lady.03 inso i'm thinking back to all the things i ever wanted to do when i was little.
and could not do because, anything i wanted to do was bad association or just bad.. when i was 4, i wanted to do gymnastics.. "no.
you get pulled into nationalism and develop a competive spirit.".

Sorry you went through that roller coaster. I put my kids through it. My youngest just wanted to be in track...............but no, bad association, might miss meetings, etc. But now we see Venus & Serena Williams playing tennis. My kids forgive me, but i wish I hadnt raised them in that cult.
On the bright side, you're not dead yet. Explore your artistic side, join some classes or clubs, live life!

"You are only looking at things 'critical' of the Watchtower"
by sabastious insomething jws say that to a lot to people who have left or are leaving the org.. i find it very a very ironic statement since the wt and awake, or any wt literature for that matter, is never critical of itself and never directly addresses refutation of their doctrine and predictions.... i was raised a witness, as many of you were.
i have been subjected to "one-side-of-the-coin" for almost 2 decades!
the only true way to bring balance to my information is to look at the other side of the coin and give it great consideration.... -sab.

Perhaps you could mention to them that you are trying to be like the bereans who daily examined the scriptures to see if what Paul was saying was true. (Acts 17:11) If the jws really have the "truth" then they shouldnt be fearful of critical sources.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The witnesses just came to more door, and you know what? My mind went blank, and I couldn't remember a thing you said. I just said, "ya know, Im disfellowshipped so Im good, thank you" the sister clenced her mouth and the brother said "have a nice day"
I must need more coffee.
