I've never seen Nugent, but I have been at a few concerts in my day; I started going in 1976; my most recent was in early October. After several concerts and a good number of years of listening to my music a bit too loudly at home, I now wear earplugs when I attend a concert.

I live in the USA......and I find some of the behavior here to be rude, so while culture may play a part, I'm not sure geography can really totally explain what sometimes goes on here.
One poster mentioned lack of personal contact. With no body language, no tone of voice, and no eye contact possible on a message board like this, I believe that, just as in e-mail or in live chat or private IM, the possiblity of misunderstandings occuring increases dramatically.
Also, the possiblity was raised that much of the behavoir here is perhaps unique, or at least more common, among those who have experienced the Jehovah's Witnesses religion to whatever degree they have in their lives. I would not doubt that this could factor in.
Perhaps not posting while in an emotional state could help. If we are upset or aroused in some negative way by something said here, perhaps the best thing to do is just move on to another thread or do something else, then return when we've had time to reflect on what was really said and what we'd like to say in response. This is much easier said than done, but it may be possible and could perhaps help.

This thread and comments are among the most interesting I've read in a while. I would agree that many Witnesses get defensive when questioned about their beliefs. I have one family member who sometimes questions another along such lines and the Witness family member almost always gets upset.
There is a great degree of fear involved, as has been pointed out. If a Witness were to find that what they have put so much time and effort into - what their lives revolve around - was not really the "truth", the prospects then become frightening indeed, as has been pointed out here.

JW answer on UN issu
by happy man ini find this on an jw site, its about the ub issu.. 1991, one of the legal corporations of the wts registered with the united nations as an ngo for the sole purpose of getting access to the extensive library of the united nations.
this enabled a writer who received an identification card, to enter the library, to enter the library for research purposes and to obtain information that has been used in writing articles in our journals about the united nations.
there was nothing secret about it.

Met, it sure did look like the Awake and WT were being nicey-nice with the UN, especially in the mid-late 90s. It's interesting to hear that it was obvious to an interested person. And yes, we had no clue.

Evidence for Evolution?
by LucidSky inall historical and archeological evidence aside, the biggest evidence that convinced me evolution is factual is speciation (also called "micro-evolution").
this is the transformation of one species into two such that the two can no longer interbreed.
there is no need for historical evidence to prove this -- cases of speciation have actually been observed.

Lucid, thanks. I am currently reviewing some information regarding micro and macro evolution. It's always interesting to hear a viewpoint on such topics.

Do You Believe In God Or Not?
by minimus inif you've been associated with the witnesses, believing in god was a necessity.
do you still feel that god exists?
if you believe in god, do you feel that he cares about you?

At this point in life, I'm really uncertain. I am trying to evaluate some information with regard to creation/evolution. Or perhaps God used evolution to some extent. I'm still trying to determine what I will accept with regard to that.
I don't pray, so maybe I really don't believe, I don't know.
